Fallout 4 has gone gold; leaked gameplay vids

Because it's easier to dismiss the game if you compare it MGSV. Internet: GAF Edition.

I've played over 150 hours of Phantom Pain and I honestly don't think it looks quite as good as many people proclaim. The banding is horrible at times and mission 14 looks unforgivably bad. There's no excuse for the skybox to shift color when I'm running or fiddling with the camera but hey, it happens.

Aw fuck I think I just saw a sneaky gif with a story spoiler. Fuck -_-
Hey man at least you didn't accidentally go to the spoiler thread thinking it was this thread and find out what i assume is the ending. Im hoping they were just joking but it's probably the ending :( got played like a damn fiddle

Heh, just heard a Fallout 4 snippet pitch on a local Rock radio station (DC). "Hello from the sole survivor of Vault 111" and then they had vault opening sound. That was kind of cool if random.

I've always found this weird. Don't people subscribe to the threads they want to read? I practically never go to the actual gaming board view, I just check the subscribed threads page.

e: sorry to hear you got spoiled, though!
Hope it wasn't my post

It is my greatest hope that someone will do a hardcore mode mod for this game as early as possible. Something like the New Vegas mod where most of the stimpacks were rotten and ammo weighed so much that the carry weight perks were actually useful for survival.

quoted from console screenshot thread (PS4). game suddenly looks nowhere near as poor as it did in that first batch of leaked screens. .png's.

OK... A few impressions from the first 2-3 hours

-Gameplay and animations are relatively clunky... Feels a bit dated for a 2015 game

-Graphics obviously not breath taking in their visual quality but the atmosphere is nice and spot on.
Some parts look very nice, other parts (especially facial animations) look very dated.

-conversations have a very strange dynamic at times... It's not like Witcher, where you have the feeling of just talking to someone... Here it sometimes feels more like clumsily putting sentences and explanations together. It's kinda hard to explain, just feels weird and doesn't make me want to stay in the conversation. There are more issues with the dialogue system, but...

-... I didn't had the feeling so far that there were too few dialogue options.

-sometimes more than one person talks and you can't unterstand parts of it

-the radio doesn't pause if you start a dialogue. (hate it when games do that)

-after a few minutes with dogmeat, I kinda want him to leave... That's not necessarily the games fault though, dogmeat as a companion works fine as far as I can tell ... Think I just prefer to wander alone.

-the crafting system seems like a lot of fun... You obviously have very limited possibilities in the first hours but I can see myself spending a lot of time with tinkering around.

-I also had a lot of fun with the character creator.

A lot of the issues can be patched in the future fortunately.

/edit
I play on ps4 and the performance is fine, some dropped frames, but nowhere near as bad as some people said it would be.

I was in the Steam forums this morning for a totally unrelated game and some troll fuckhead posted a one line spoiler for the ending in a thread title. I hope I can forget what I read, or that it ends up being false.

Sounds like a 7.5 to me. :(

Bethesdaaaaaaa

Can you dismiss Dogmeat as a companion after acquiring him? I kinda want to play around with him for a bit, but I don't want to be permanently shackled to an immortal dog.

And can't you tell dogmeat not to follow you anymore?

Pretty sure you can do that... Think I will spend a little more time with him to decide.

Yes. Finally I can hear NPCs say my name when they beg for their life. And then I'll throw em into my jail.

Haha^^... So far only codsworth says your name... Don't know if any other npcs will.

... Wow. That's disappointing. Can I tell everyone my name at least :( ? So they know who killed them
So much for that feature. Thought there would be more behind it.

Maybe there is... We don't know... Would be a lot of work to record all these names just to hear your robot say it a few times.

I hate farm in games, is it necessary in Fallout ?

I assume you mean grinding? Grinding works naturally in Bethesda games. When you inevitably go off the beaten track and 4 hours later you pop out of the wilderness back onto the road again looking like you just walked through hell.

Hey, where did all that XP come from?

Anyone know if the Idiot Savant perk is any good, yet?

"Randomly earn 3X experience for any action. The lower your intelligence the greater the chance."

Randomly? And how low does your intelligence need to be? It's so damn vague.

I'm going with an idiot savant build early on because that's when it'll be most valuable. My INT is at 2, which is low but not too low.

Apparently there's one later quest in the main quest line that requires building stuff with a less common item, so if you see a Military Grade Circuit Board, hang on to one of those.

Well for some reason the game is mainly being compared to 1. The Witcher 3, 2. Fallout 3, or 3. MGS 5 when Skyrim was Bethesda's last big open world game I think that would be a better point to start a graphics comparison.

So, in other words, don't compare the game to other recent games in the industry because Bethesda is in its own bubble. I really can't wait for the review thread, prepare your popcorn because there's no way this game gets critical acclaim with the official footage we've seen (I didn't watch streams). The new dialogues and constant VA forced on you are two factors that will absolutely tick off one or two points. The characters still look horrendous and plastic. The animations are not impressive at all. And this is coming from a fan of Fallout. I'm lowering my expectations because everything I've seen so far isn't spectacular. Without Obsidian on board, you just know the writing won't be on the level of New Vegas. The lack of factions also hurts. I could go on and on as I feel they ultimately dumbed down the Fallout experience. Of course I haven't played it, maybe I'll be surprised, but I'm speaking from the official coverage we've seen so far.

Does anyone know if you can make a fat or really thin character or is there just one body type? I haven't really checked out the character creation vids

you can see your feet in fallout games, correct? totally forget.

also, bump: can you start out on the hardest difficulty? haven't played a fallout game in years. need that good loooot.
