I've got the game, put the disc in and loaded that bad boy up...now been sitting here for 30 minutes while the game is at 90% install

Looks like a 3rd of the map is water.

It does look that way to me as well. But remember Fallout 3 had an incredible amount of stuff to do within the space it had, so I'm not concerned. Space that's simply for ambiance isn't so special. If you think about most of the biggest open world games, most of them are fairly lifeless.

Skyrim bottom, then Fallout 4, then Fallout 3.
Around the same size as Skyrim but remember a lot of Skyrim was mountains. I recently played Skyrim again and still found new places. I think Fallout 4 will be big enough.

Todd also made a few allusions to water sports being big in Fallout 4 so I want to imagine that the entire right third of the map is still prime gameplay real estate. It would be nice to have a nice non-spoiler confirmation of this.

Well, there is a water-related Endurance perk that would indicate it isn't entirely off-limits space, at least.

Yeah, for the sake of exploration I'm giving up on my Ninja build so I can invest in Endurance 5 and put the rest into Strength 3 to build up The Power Armor.

I'm no Ninja but I'll be iron man!

So I just visited Skyrim steam forum and I am pretty sure I got spoiled The Big Twist of Fallout 4 by a thread title there.

.....

Can anyone speak to the gun crafting? Bethesda made it seem lil a really big deal, but what is so ambitious about it?

A LOT of mods/customizations for each gun. You can turn that crappy pipe rifle you found in a toilet into a pretty decent sniper rifle. Energy weapons can get a bunch of different cool effects. There's just a lot you can do. All of the components can be found in the wild like salvaging a microscope for glass, etc. to make the scope for the rifle.

This goes waaaay beyond any of the other crafting systems I've seen.

Can you break a weapon down for its components?

You can scrap it for steel, screws, etc. You can manually take off the components to reattach to a similar gun. i.e. take off the night vision scope on the pipe rifle you just found to attach it to the pipe rifle you're already using.

Can you make a gun that has an alternate fire such as an assault riffle with a grenade launcher or is it just a primary weapon + finisher sort of thing like alluded to with the bayonet?

Also, does how you configure the weapon affect the type and/or consumption of ammo or is that simply based on what ever core (base) component that the weapon is built off of?

Keep in mind I'm only level 17 so I don't know what all is out there.

I haven't run into any guns with an alternate fire mode, nor have I seen a mod for that on the guns that I have seen so far. Yes you can add a bayonet to the rifles I've seen.

To your second question: I have seen a gun with a top tier mod that allows you to change the ammo type. From .38 to .45? I think. Which greatly increases the damage it does.

How do you do a critical during VATS when the meter is full?

When the meter is full you just push whatever button (for PS4 it's square) before your next shot.

To those who have played... what seems to be the most useful element of SPECIAL? I'm leaning towards a charismatic build. This is what I have so far.

Well it depends what you want to play. If you want to do stealth, agility seems an obvious choice. For me crafting was very important so I tried to cater my SPECIAL to get all the crafting perks.

Thanks for the info; much appreciated.

This is good to know going in. I'll want to really care about and save the bullets I find even if I have a weapon that doesn't use them. I tend to hoard everything but it seems like I'll really be able to mold my gun to use whatever I have a surplus off which makes me happy.

Why do we not have a OT already? In Germany you are able to play it since Friday.

What does the difficulty "survival" actually mean?
And can you change this setting during gameplay?

Well.. I just saw the list of all known companions. Are companions the only romance options in the game or are some NPCs in the wasteland potential romance options.

I'm seriously baffled, I never thought a game could get companion relationship options worst than DAI.

Edit: False alarm, I have not seen the full list apparently!

Any early tips to make money?

I remember in skyrim on my third play-through, I chopped wood for 6 hours (real-time) in Riverwood so I can buy land in Falkreat and build a home asap. I just don't remember if Fallout 3 had those sorts of quests but if Fallout 4 has one of those "bring me as may of these infinite items and I'll pay you for it" quests.... I'm all over that for at least 10 hours straight.

A safe home base to store all the hoarding I'll be doing is the most important thing to me in a Bethesda game I've come to realize. I spend 60% (hundreds of hours) of my time in these games just collecting stuff without following any storylines.

The mod to change the ammo type for the gun I mentioned is Rank 4? Gun Nut, and I've only seen it on the pipe rifle that I can recall.

The fuck. This isn't winterspring tiger rep.

Have I ever told you just how badly I want to keep everything in a game because I may need it some day even though I've played a game through multiple times and know exactly what I've used and haven't used in the past. I'm willing to admit I have a problem though :(

I still kinda wish bows or crossbows were in. I really liked Skyrims Archer setup, it makes sense in fallout, and a 1950s science fiction crossbow sounds cool as shit. Maybe in fallout 5.
