What kind of build would you recommend for playing survival difficulty? Does it matter?

Challenge will come more from management of your resources [HP, food, stimpacks, ammo...] than from what perks you have. I think all builds that would be viable on e.g. normal will be viable on survival, you just have to be more careful in general. It will get easier after few levels and when you get geared up.

Basically trying to build a stealth character that can craft standard weapons/armor and unlock/hack. I might move a few stat points around depending on how soon I can get bobbleheads but I'm pretty set on this at the moment. Hopefully I don't regret missing out on some high level charisma perks, but I plan to travel alone.

Dude I agree.. Aquaboy being END 5 is really messing up the build I want. According to other Gaffer's there's a good amount of water in the game so I'm stuck with going for End 5.
I'm sure it'll be possible for non-Aquaboys to explore underwater. Respirators and such.

Fallout rarely forces you into a particular playstyle. (Although it often rewards such.) If it did, it would be impossible to role play.

Failed your speech check? No worries, that's what the guns are for!

Same here, going to be a long fucking day, ughhh. At least I have Wed off!

Seems like a lot of people want to go down Endurance to get to the aquaboy perk. Will definitely be interesting to see if there is any substantial underwater exploration or benefits for grabbing it.

I always used Gopher's Advanced Recon mod, it'd give you an underwater breathing apparatus. I'll bet by the time I start my 2nd play through he'll have made an equivalent but..

Fuck it, if it turns out to be bunk oh well.

Heard early stealth will be tough as fuck, keep that in mind.

Ok sounds good, I was afraid that STR and critical would be a requirement.
I don't feel very confident in my build however, will it suffice?

Lead Belly would be a must. Getting health back from food and drinks without radiation poisioning would be absolutely necessary. And maybe Chem Resistance. Taking Jet and Buffout without getting addicted would be pretty useful.

So are we able to customize the wife even if we don't use her? I'd like to customize both of them because why not.
I think so. I've seen the character creator being used on both and then you select one or the other. Not certain though.

I'll work on her because why not. I'm always curious as to what type of female character I'd make. I'll still go with the male to continue the legend of Alphonse Bino.

I just did a really epic mission involving someone named Bobbi. Not going to spoil anything, but whenever you get a Misc mission called "talk to Bobbi", put that mission on your priority list!

Yes,the usual dude at streamcountry is streaming, playing as female char but thats about the only thing that might be interesting seeing as hes messing around with console commands

Guards rockin those Boston accents :p

The guy yesterday was an idiot and thought this guy would be better, but this guy seems to be equally worse. Better than nothing though, especially if I mute it, so thanks! :)

well that was a nice and painless download guess sony fixed rest mode... it only took 4 hours for 32 gbs... not bad...

Why Int 9? Also I would consider Str 3 for Armorer perk, to get those armor mods.

Shouldn't the OT be up by now?

This is some bootleg thread.....

Unofficial OT's are new hotness.

OT goes up tomorrow morning early, I think Ninja said 10AM CET.

Man, i normally hit up charisma in the last two games but I can't help but wonder how many fights I have avoided as a result.

I still do not know what build i want this go around but i normally push lock pick and int to 8 from the get go

Reasons for Charisma in F4

The Charisma tree is actually insane.

Initially, I didn't have much in Charisma because I just shrugged and thought the following
"Skills for my dog? Meh, whatever, I'll probably use humans and not care much about the dog."
"Shops in my settlements? Meh, whatever, why do I need more shops? I can find stuff to buy at other places."
"Turn enemies passive and potentially protect me etc? Meh, whatever, if you're good you shouldn't need the help." (oh how little did I know... Survival mode is laughing at me atm)

A) The dog is ridiculously powerful. I have had plenty of moments of jaw-dropping and saying, holy shit my dog is actually a terminator sent back in time to fuck up post-apocalyptic bandits for me. And when you skill him up, he can get nutty. Watching Dogmeat single-handedly skullfuck an enemy while you just sit and watch smiling is one of the most rewarding elements of this game, IMHO

B) The shops aren't "just" shops, they generate revenue for you depending on how big your settlements are and once you're running a steady network of settlements and pulling survivors in constantly, you make bank on this. Think Assassin's Creed style passive income, with the initial set-up cost paying for itself ten times over eventually. This feels a lot like that, it may be one of the highest reward-per-point-spent skills in the game.

C) I cannot even begin to tell you how pointing a gun to shoot at something, only to have it suddenly stop rushing you, and then actually turn around and attack his friends instead can just instantly shift the course of a fight. It is a-b-s-u-r-d when it goes off at the perfect times.

Trust me, don't ignore the Charisma tree. Don't make my same mistake. Many levels of leveling it up later in the game in regret did not make me happy, every level up is a huge deal.

I'll write up some other tips when I get a chance post-BlizzCon because I feel like there are a lot of things I'd do differently starting from scratch knowing what I know now, but for now this is my big one.

PS. Once we have maps and guides on where to find the Charisma Bobbleheads, this obviously won't be as big of a deal. Right now, I'm playing without them (and probably would anyway, ...probably... ...maybe) so I don't have that luxury. I suppose you could plan for +2-3 Charisma once those are available. Either way, plan for +1 Perception right away because the first Bobble you find is in a very, very obvious spot very early in the game, and it's a +PER Bobble.
