Digital Foundry Performance Analysis: Fallout 4

Lol so the more powerful console getting a better version is now "boom"??

No. It comes from people concern trolling in the other thread basing their opinions off a few seconds of video that showed the PS4 version dropping frames in one particular area.

People saw that and made drastic overreactions. Some "say" they canceled their PS4 version in favor of the xbox version.

I took it as a lot of trolling. So what he said was kind of a job at what that thread has become.

I remember on 360 the deeper into the game you got, the slower it got. The saving took longer and things just got more crazy, bug wise.

Bethesda game. Outside of the 0 fps glitch, which i hope is patched, i have no problems with this. Fallout 3/New Vegas/Skyrim were buggy, but there is nothing like them out there.

Yeah, you think they would have sorted this out by now, it has been a problem for them for years on consoles.

It wasn't just saving. It was loading times too. Which on Consoles were already ridiculously long.

He also said "I've heard the Xbox One version is similar, or worse in some cases" ..which basically echoes what DF said.

He went onto say, there is a small room near the end, with lots of enemies, and they're all firing at you, and the only way he could get through was to run without shooting. If he shot, the it was literally unplayable. So he just ran.

Those people who actually switched their preorders from PS4 to XBO because of the other thread, lol.

(I still don't think those horrendous drops when aiming down the sights are acceptable though, and won't be getting this until that's sorted, if I ever do. But then I'm not all that hyped for the game at all.)

By Bethesda game standards the PS4 version seems...OK but I'm surprised people are celebrating. Definitely glad I decided to wait a bit on this one.

I'd be more ok with sub-par technical performances and glitches from smaller studios with limited development resources. But I don't see how Bethesda can get away with it. The fact that they have lower standards despite being a big studio with a big enough budget makes this thing rather more remarkable. I guess that they are not putting more effort into technical polish because their games sell anyway. (By the way, I see the lack of effort as the result of a management decision to not invest more development resources, not as alleged developer laziness. I am sure that all Bethesda developers have been crunching hard).

If only Jeff knew someone who worked in the industry that could take Bethesda to task on this. Seriously game journalists, do your job.

Yeah I'm skipping this game until I have a PC.
I'm fucking tired of sub 30fps games.

I can accept some drops under very heavy circumstances, but here I'm seeing it go down to 24fps even during random encounters. No to mention that pop up looks horrible too.

0fps? yep that's a Bethesda game alright, all that's missing are.

Missing NPCs
Broken Quest
Deleting saved files
Constant crashes.

Then the circle will be completed.

Great reviews, glad to hear about PS4 performance. Hopefully they can fix both consoles to perform better with patches. Sucks for those that changed to XB1 though, if they were serious.

Welcome to Consoles since 360 and Ps3, ps2 days were awesome 60fps everywhere :)

I don't want to read the entire thread but those people freaking out and who switched platforms thinking PS4 ran worse must be feeling some strong feelings now.

I await the various NPCs and creatures getting launched into the stratosphere. I will complain and bitch about the bugs in this game, and the framerate. Yet I will love it to death.

Should I be more picky? Sure. it's going to be hard coming off perfect shooting and the best framerate on consoles in Halo 5, to this though. Woof.

0 fps?!?

So the game does shut down the TV on Xbox One?

I haven't read the whole thread but this alone ensures a lot of fun posts from both "sides".

Seriously? Jesus, I'm out. Time to hop on that PC grind and play a day early.

As much as I enjoy the idea of sitting in bed playing this on my Vita, it sounds like the console versions are as bad as I remember Skyrim being.

Steam and nVidia do provide in-home game streaming to various devices. I tried it on my cheap windows tablet and it worked pretty well.

Edit: Gies. Gies never changes.

I was led to believe in a previous thread that XBox One has a superior CPU for open world games, yet this data draws a different conclusion. Perhaps Fallout 4 isn't open enough to take full advantage.

Maybe the fact that XBox One Ram is better for 2-D platformers is actually a bottleneck for Open World games.

Also, can anyone tell me definitively if the PS4 HDD is better for Rogue-likes?

Seems as though MS moneyhatted the game and included a small 0fps pause which gives time for Xbox One players to reach into a bag of Cheetos while not missing any action on screen.

PS4 unlocks more frames in strat games, Bat games, and Dad games.

It is science.

I never owned the PS3 version of Skyrim but it's quite clear that it was a mess, but has it ever been fixed? Surely it eventually was patched succesfully i hope? One thing is quite clear, this analysis by DF shows there are some serious issues with the framerate and needs fixing. Hope BGS takes that seriously.

Woah. dude. CPU for open world? their ram is better for 2-D? You're not making any sense. HDD for Rouge-likes?

The X1 and PS4 are similar, with the framerate being janky in city loading zones. The big problem is the 0 fps on the Xbox which appears to be some sort of bug. if it's not fixed, it'll be a sore spot.

edit: I've been had, haven't I?
