Question for all you players: is this a game you buy more for the gameplay or also the story, plot and narrative?

I am more of a story-driven gamer. I like games like The Last of Us, MGS 3 etc. etc.

I don't mind linear gameplay when it has a strong narrative.

But with Fallout 4, I don't know if it's excellent gameplay with poor narrative and plot. That's the reason I don't buy MGS V. I've played Skyrim and Oblivion and I loved the atmosphere but after a while the very weak main quests (those boring gates in Oblivion) made me stop playing these games.

Quests have been pretty mundane so far for me.

Man alive, all the junk being useful is playing havoc with my RPG OCD.

End up with pockets stuffed to the gills with crap!!!
I'm the same, I have a dresser near my gate in sanctuary that is just choc full of stuff that I use to build but I will have to move it soon as sanctuary is nearing completion, its a death trap and even a deathclaw would die in seconds upon entering the gate.

I do wish I could build with soil though, vertical farming could have be awesome.

This is no different imo, story is throwaway so expect more of the same.

Man... two supermutants and their dog were charging me, I ran like fuck because I'm completely underleveled to be here and they kill me quickly... I noticed one of them was conspicuously holding something in his hand, so I went into vats and saw he was a suicide mutant holding a grenade up in his hand... On a hunch I tried vats targetting his grenade arm...

He blew up and took everyone with him.

Its much more gameplay and atmosphere, but I will say the plot so far has been one of Bethesda's more interesting ones. But then, given their past plots, thats not a ringing endorsement.

What does the Local Leader perk do? The Supply Lines between settlements, what does that entail?

Well, Fallout 4 is the best in my opinion. I tried to play the original Fallouts, but could never really get into that type of game since my first Fallout was Fallout 3. An old-time Fallout fan might very well think that Fallout 2 is better than Fallout 4. I just think that Fallout 4 is such a massive improvement over Fallout 3 and NV that I consider it the best FO game ever.

Of course, a New Vegas 2 with the same improvements might blow FO4 out of the water. Obsidian Fallout > Bethesda Fallout.

I don't think you can make a claim like "Fallout 4 is the best Fallout game ever made" when you haven't even played all the Fallout games.

I've noticed some bugs.

Subtitles are broken, sometimes they don't appear, other times the first line just stays on the screen throughout.

Also, you can break conversations if you hold the movement stick while conversing.

Name some examples then, dog!

Witcher 3 on PC. SOMA (not open world so apples and oranges, but still. It's an indie game and it looks amazing). Arkham Knight. Off the top of my head I think those are all more impressive-looking. But that's not accounting for taste of course :)

Oh yeah, if someone with high intelligence is thinking of taking the Idiot Savant perk for shits and giggles: don't. I've gotten triple EXP like 5% of the time, max. Super rarely.
Something like 9. It's probably worth it if you're gonna keep your INT that low.
I have 2 int and it seems to proc when I trip over something. It's awesome. Definitely going to unlock the upgrades when they're available.

its the same deal here

I don't remember exactly what the dart gun did, but there is a syringe gun that lets you apply effects to enemies ocne you craft syringes.

Instantly cripple the targets legs. Taking away a deathclaws speed made the battle against one much easier, especially when it playing on very hard.

Those questions have been asked a plethora of times for weeks. I bet even google can answer that at this point.

No
Yes

no and yes

however in order to max your SPECIAL and perks you'd need to reach level... 318 or so

There's no cap and it is possible to get every single perk and max out your SPECIAL attributes.

No level cap.

There's technically no Level Cap in the game and you can keep leveling as much as you want but do know that after Lv.50 the EXP Curve is going to start rocketing and you will need alot of XP to keep leveling up so if you want to have an easier time leveling past Lv.50 you either get High Intelligence or have the Idiot Savet Perk but otherwise YES you can max out every SEPCIAL if you want.

Wow!! Thanks a lot everyone!!
I've searched on google but could only find a tweet post saying about level cap but I was wondering if they were limiting your progress in some way! That's excellent, cause I made some wrong choices already in my build!

I think one of my biggest complaints with it so far outside of dated visuals is how they introduce the world to you via quests, for those that appreciate presentation in open world it feels like they really neglected pacing of areas re: difficulty of enemies and quest lines. For example in FO3 Megaton is most people's introduction to the world along with Tenpenny Tower. Landmarks all blur together in this game for the most part, cities look homogenized and bland, there are very little structures that stand out from one another. I'm also surprised I'm as deep as I am into Diamond City after just a few quests with the Minuteman guy. Feel like I've already seen most of the map :(

Seriously underwhelming pacing and presentation of the world here, which is really the biggest reason I play Bethesda games. Gonna stick with it cause Fallout but damn could've been so much better laid out.

I'm the same way as you, which is why I enjoyed Witcher 3 so much. It has a great open world to explore but it doesn't come at the expense of the story, characters, and writing.

Everything I've read so far indicates that FO4's plot is basically just serviceable. I don't think we're going to get gripping writing out of Bethesda anytime soon. I feel like FO4 is a game you play for the atmosphere rather than the story.

Do all legendary creatures drop loot? I just killed a legendary ghoul and it had nothing. The weird thing is it didn't even register his body when cusoring over it at all, and it was in one piece.

In addition, this game repeats the Fallout 3 probably of tying my characters backstory down heavily, so I can't actually feel immersed and roleplay. There is an extreme cognitive dissonance with all the murder my character is doing, and the life they lived in Pre-War times.

The dialogue thing is pretty messed up as far as my character goes, too.

I ran into some "essential" characters and, after trying to murder them (and therefore finding out they're essential because they won't die), I keep telling them to fuck off in every dialogue choice but they're still like, "well, that's your choice, but I hope you change your mind."

There was a point where I even chose "I'm out" so that I wouldn't help them, but the quest advanced anyway and told me to do what they wanted.

Also, I can't say how disappointing it is that the fact that my INT and CHR are 1 apparently has NO impact on dialogue. My dude still sounds pretty smart about things and these people still want to like him.

Agree with the post I saw earlier that I can't find anymore saying the keyboard/mouse controls aren't great...hopefully with some remapping I can fix some of these problems.

- Why is there no Take All option?
- M brings up map but doesn't toggle it away?
- Tab to go back feels weird.. constantly pressing Esc to go back a screen
- Arrow keys for dialogue suckkkk. I hope I can switch this to WASD
- L Alt for grenades sucks too, I need to remap this.
- The settlement interface is soo confusing to me. I am having a hard time just moving around my choices and placing things.

Yeah. Mapping isn't great.

I changed grenade/bash to middle click. Favorites on V. Camera switch on F. Tab is back on most screens and when it says something like "Close menu?" You can just hit E instead of Enter like it says. Better than default for me. I wish dialogue was on 1-4. Using the mouse works, arrow keys suck, but they just aren't ideal.

walking along the road heading to a side quest, I see a small town off the corner of my eye. I go there, open up a new sidequest (a pretty good one with some investigation shenanigans). These games man...

Guys something weird happened. I just picked a master lock without having the master lock perk (I have the expert one) how did that happen any idea?

Keyboad controls definitely feel awkward.
