A few hours in and I love how free you are to build the character you want. I dumped points into luck and immediately took four leaf clover+grim reaper's sprint as perks and I'm only at level 5. Just satisfying that you can even do that. I think having played the hell out of the series has made it pretty easy to succeed though even with 1 strength/conditioning. We'll see how that goes later though.

Oh yeah, the music is simply fucking fantastic. I will easily dump a hundred+ hours into this sucker.

Exactly. Fallout 4 is the best Fallout game ever made, at the very least 5.9 is not accurate at all.

Better than FO 2? Haven't started FO 4 yet but I'm skeptical. Would love to be wrong tho.

Edit: to be fair, there's prolly some major issues in my comparing fo 2 to fo 4 given the timeline of the games

There's no level cap, and you can assign a point into them every level if you want, so technically no, you can't gimp yourself.

I'd just do what you want, frankly. I'm sure others would say different.

Thanks. I played a bit of Fallout 3, but I'm basically going into this blind.

The installing... 83% is getting a bit tiresome now.

i was more focusing on the tonal thing than actual gameplay. its pretty weird to be 2 hours out of the vault and a heavily armed killing machine even if its just cosmetic. in previous games you felt like a futuristic hobo for a pretty long time.

Ah yeah true, I get what you saying now. I guess with their idea of settlements it maybe made more sense for things to be more readily available since you couldn't run one of them and barely be able to equip yourself decently. Maybe they could've reduced settlements to more mid or late game, not sure.

5.9 user rating on metacritic, and it keeps dropping. Not very good at all, considering fallout 3 has 8.1 and New Vegas has 8.4...

Really might not get this if it's that bad.

lol you're joking right? You think all those 0's and 1's people put on Metacritic are indicative of the quality? Metacritic is quite a bit more well known now 7 years later and it's really easy for people to shit up review scores because they're morons. I'm not saying people putting in 10's less than a day after release is right either but come on.

From Russian magazine - С.Л.И.В.
Full out 4 winner in nomination - Worst game year! You say - what?! You play this game? I will say - no! I not idiot!
Оh, I forgot....Hair not get wet. 0/10! I say all!

Frame rate drops ruin games, wish i had it Xbox one now, but all in all im sure once i have returned this copy and got an xbox copy, il probably enjoy the game a bit more.

Both 0/10.

I am having a very hard time understanding base building. I need to connect a transmitter to a power supply. On the top of my screen it shows 10 power in red. To connect it to a generator it requires 10 power, but it wont let me do it.

Walk up to the generator, press Y or triangle and then string the wire to the signal.

6-7 hours in. I'm not really digging it.

Loved F3 when it came out. Loved NV even more now (my favorite Fallout, actually).

The weapon crafting is kinda ruining the loot-game. Not feeling the urban areas at all, they're almost as bland as the worst parts of NV. Exploration feels boring.

Story is your typical Bethesda joint, everything is black and white.

Yeah I feel pretty bummed about it, forcing myself to slog through it but most of the world is quite bland, doesn't help that a lot of the cities are overrun with low poly/texture assets everywhere. Bethesda went pretty damn cheap on the tech end for this one, probably the most underwhelming game of theirs I've played from a visual standpoint (at release).

Anyone know what's going on with the textures at this place? Seen a couple of posts about it where people have the same issue, others do not. There is also a lot of z-fighting going on and models here like walls that only have 1 normal face (so when you look behind it, it's invisible). Those textures that are like that, when I walk onto it, I fall a little into the world/ground. Anyone know of a fix maybe?

It happened to me in that exact place. Someone told me that its the game loading far away textures over the normal ones. If you fall through there, you can see all the normal ground.

Well, Fallout 4 is the best in my opinion. I tried to play the original Fallouts, but could never really get into that type of game since my first Fallout was Fallout 3. An old-time Fallout fan might very well think that Fallout 2 is better than Fallout 4. I just think that Fallout 4 is such a massive improvement over Fallout 3 and NV that I consider it the best FO game ever.

Of course, a New Vegas 2 with the same improvements might blow FO4 out of the water. Obsidian Fallout > Bethesda Fallout.

damn I really screwed up. I thought the perks beneath your special unlocked an entire horizontal row at a time, and I've been putting all of my points into the SPECIAL slots on the top row.

Already 14 hours in, is there no way to respec? Kind of bummed. Any advice? Love the game though.

How do I assign settlers to stuff? For example guard posts ? Its just sitting there empty. Somehow I got lucky and some annoying broad started automatically farming for me.

if you on pc maybe console commands can fix that

You see your one of the "new" fans of the series so of course it's a given than your going to like the newer entries instead of liking the CRPG games on PC because it's so easy to dismiss the dialogue, the dated graphics and overall style of the games if you aren't used to playing CRPGs.

So, going to do a Pro & Con as daily as possible going forward. Only going to do one item for each.

Pro - Character Creator.

Holy Crap, I was not expecting it to be as incredible as it is. The only real absence felt is custom colors, but aside I was very impressed with how easy it was to play with the different features and felt I had good options to choose from. But even more surprising was when I saw the face layers and being able to apply transparency to them. Shades of RaceMenu from Skyrim, and its great to see here.

Con - Graphics.

Yeah, they're serviceable. But so is a hoopty ride that kicks out black smoke when you fire it up for the morning commute. From an art direction standpoint, it looks great to me, and the effects serve the graphics well, and I would be happy with them if it weren't for the texture detail which is downright brutal at times. I came across instances where it did feel worse than Skyrim. In a way, I wonder if they relied too much on the blur from TXAA to cut a corner or five.

Overall I'm eating the game up right now for its stellar atmosphere, downright mean enemies (when did this happen?), and the base building. Though Bethesda, PLEASE allow more clipping on this junk wall sections? Makes neat building impossible.

Can someone please answer me this? I've tried several times unsuccessfully:

Is there a level cap??

Is it possible to max every SPECIAL and perk?

The enclave power armour from fallout 2 is in the game it seems saw it in a loading screen, wonder where is it though and if there are enclave at all.

Aha! So I wasn't the only one! YES!

.. Uhm, sorry. Anyway, I realized this when I reached level 10 and just decided to continue on.

Those questions have been asked a plethora of times for weeks. I bet even google can answer that at this point.

No
Yes

There's technically no Level Cap in the game and you can keep leveling as much as you want but do know that after Lv.50 the EXP Curve is going to start rocketing and you will need alot of XP to keep leveling up so if you want to have an easier time leveling past Lv.50 you either get High Intelligence or have the Idiot Savet Perk but otherwise YES you can max out every SEPCIAL if you want.

it most certainly is not

As I said before, wasn't a fan of the originals and it's entirely possible that those can be considered better games than Fallout 4 for people who enjoy CRPGs. But I do think that Fallout 4 is certainly better than FO3 and FONV simply because the gameplay and VA is so vastly superior. Story might be better too, but I haven't gotten very far (but it's hard for me to believe that FO4 can be worse than FO3's horrendous main story).

Best graphics 2015? The atmosphere is insane.

Anyone have a PipBoy Edition and a LG G3? Does it fit?

Just curious because it's not much bigger than the Galaxy S5 and if I forgo the foam inserts I'm curious if it would fit.

All I know is an HTC One M8 definitely DOES NOT FIT.

I salvaged my wife's old 4S to throw in there instead. Felt thematically appropriate.

Question for all you players: is this a game you buy more for the gameplay or also the story, plot and narrative?

I am more of a story-driven gamer. I like games like The Last of Us, MGS 3 etc. etc.

I don't mind linear gameplay when it has a strong narrative.

But with Fallout 4, I don't know if it's excellent gameplay with poor narrative and plot. That's the reason I don't buy MGS V. I've played Skyrim and Oblivion and I loved the atmosphere but after a while the very weak main quests (those boring gates in Oblivion) made me stop playing these games.
