Also that "Fallout 4 don't let you to be a dick" thread seems accurate so far :/ It really seems like the game railroaded you into a good day or at worst a cynical good guy.

Not to mention reconciling the I WANNA BE AN ARSEHOLE with the "family" background that seem so conflicting with such vibe.... disappointing :(

I haven't tried it yet but can't you give them better armor and weapons to defend themselves with like in the past games?

You can. Well, at least there's a tutorial text on the loading screen stating that you can, hahaha.

The sarcastic responses are pretty fun, yeah. They're somewhat reminiscent of Asshole Thorton from Alpha Protocol, where you can't really be "bad" but you can be a dick to a lot of people in some amusing ways.

Not sure if they redeem the dialogue system in this game, though. :P

Yes, it is hilarious.
I like the dialogue system though, It kind of makes the conversation feel more realistic, as a fan of this series I'm pretty impressed.

Yes, there are less options I know, but I like this system better somehow, (more inmersive perhaps?)

This game will be the end of me.

I walk into Lexington to do a quest, 1 hour later all I've done is loot stores and my bags are full so I go back to Sanctuary, break everything down and make a load of generators, furniture, buildings, etc.

I will be playing this shit for ages.

Only negatives I have so far are the insane amount of terminal bugs and the dialogue/levelling system. The dialogue system is so much worse than FO3 and NV. I fucking hate not knowing what I'm going to say.

Really not a fan of the streamlining in that regards. Things like Lady Killer were really fun before, but not now.

Plus it seems much harder to be a complete cunt. But I've only done a few quests in 10 hours of play, so hopefully that changes.

Oh well, back to hoarding.

Hard is pretty hard lol. The enemies can throw bombs directly at my face while I can't even see them.
Weapon selection is pretty scarce so far. I need a good hunting/sniper rifle or assault rifle to clear this raiders factory.

Two things that I noticed after 12 hours:

a) You can move all your junk at once out of your inventory by going to a Workshop and pressing the button shown in the bottom of the screen... saves SO MUCH TIME.
b) You can trade with your companion and give him equipment so you do not overburden. All that juicy loot I had to leave behind ;_; (Rocket Launcher for example)

How should I be leveling up my perks? I don't know whether to just specialize in one thing or get the perks for multiple guns. I currently have small arms and rifles upgraded. Should I go for automatics now or keep upgrading pistols and rifles?

the pacing is ALL off in this game. the first hour is nothing, and then by hour 3 you have so much stuff you are over encumbered. I'm in my 3rd hour and I have 2 Miniguns.. that shouldn't happen this early in an epic game..

Actually I've heard it doesn't really get going until 20 hours in.

Start a new game and don't do the main quest. Head right from Vault 111 through the hole in the fench, you end up with nothing and some farms to help out and loads of side quests.

Also if you don't want the miniguns, drop them.

Oh wow. Do you happen to have a video of this?
I don't have any of the perk in action but here's what he looks like

Whatever you feel like mayne

5ish hours in now, everything still running pretty close to perfect on my PC. Haven't even done the second main story step, just wandering around seeing what I can find and enjoying the landscape with my dog. It may not be the most technically impressive game ever made but man can it do atmosphere super well. Well enough that it's easily one of my favorite games to look at in a very long time, even if it won't win any "most graphics" categories.

That doesn't account for shoddy progression dude

So happy to be playing this tonight. Amazon came through and the game arrived just moments after I got back from work. It's amazing, looks great and runs fine on the Xbox One.

With this and Divinity Original Sin, I won't be buying a new game for a long time.

Ok, figured out the supply line thing.

If anyone else is annoyed why you can't assign the first crew of people you get to supply lines, it appears to only be doable by unnamed NPC like settlers. So you need to do either the first mission where you help out another settlement or build the recruitment tower to start doing it.

I am still a bit confused about what assigning people tasks does though.

Like I built a scangenging station and assigned someone to it, but not sure what it does. You can assign people to crops to farm them but they don't appear to harvest the crop, they just leave it there. Is the benefit just the food for you to loot and that it is "feeding them?" I figured they'd like auto harvest it to increase my stores or something.

Really just not entirely sure what the benefit of the settlements is yet. Maybe I just need to play further.

Fallout 4 went from meh in the beginning to my game of the gen within the 11 hours I played. The immersion and atmosphere is unrivaled and it's the small things and all the details that make it such a memorable experience. I talked to friends today in person about the game and the stories I experienced in small side quests. I've never done this before. Fuck the mediocre performance. This shit doesn't matter when you notice the developers poured their hearts in this. I just can't give it enough praise. 10/10

Thank you Bethesda!

I am horrible at building up settlements. I can't make a decent build for shit.

:(

I can't put roofs on existing structures and put full roofs on structures I build. I suck at it.

Oh, damn. Was hoping it'd spawn back somewhere. Also when do you get a "home?" I am 10 hours in and don't have one.

Home is where the heart is. Or wherever you drop your shit after clearing out a building. Or you can build one yourself.

I'm playing on Survival and I've been finding that this game has the same issue that NV and to a lesser extent (IIRC) FO3 had, which is that companions are just stupidly powerful (at least early on). I only have Dogmeat and Codsworth so far, but the latter in particular just ruins fools, and I haven't enhanced him in any way. His attacks are pretty fun to watch, though.

I like going around with a companion, for whatever banter/story stuff they have and because of their traditional great effectiveness as mules (especially since STR is often one of my dump stats). I never pick them for combat purposes. But they tend to be a bit overtuned combat-wise in the modern Fallout games, particularly in the damage they deal.

I honestly didn't even know Codsworth was a companion until earlier today when I read it here so I can't speak to that, but Dogmeat holds his own, but isn't nearly as overpowered as the other Laser Musket wielding companion you get early game. I think Dogmeat is a great companion to have on Survival difficulty as he's not powerful enough to just mow down shit from afar and can easily be incapacitated from ranged enemies, but he ain't no punk bitch either. Loving Survival difficulty. I'll be playing all night tonight.

Oh man... in which platform are you playing this in? Is it PS4? Just a warning: there have been surprisingly quite often an occasion where the Subtitle just got STUCK on the previous line of dialogue even though the characters are already talking way beyond that line. I had it happened to me consistently during your first visit to the Freedom Museum... just a warning :/

happened to me on X1 in the Museum as well.

The only thing I'm definitely not enjoying until now, is how enemies keep throwing molotv or granades at you... seriously... that's totally overdone! They should patch that.

Another thing I noticed is that playing with M/K is much easier than playing with a controller. I was using the XB1 pad and having a hard time compared to the K/M settings.

I have the same problem.
I've looted some fruits near the river but I can't plant them. What do I need, actually?

You need specific things like corn, melons, etc. Why some doesn't qualify I'm not sure.

I've found them in stores and other settlements. IIRC one of the houses in Sanctuary also had some Melons already growing in the backyard. You can harvest them and replant them to get the quest percentage up a little bit but you'll need more or to keep coming back and replanting to finish it.
