Stranger of Sword City announced for PSV for the West in March 2016 - NIS America

Demon Gaze, Dungeon Travelers 2, Operation Abyss
I think the reason I forgot about those was when I first looked them up, I saw boobs and panties and just completely tuned them out. But OA seems like it doesn't do that as much, thanks for the tip.

Vita TV compatible?

It should be as the JP one was. Cant imagine them disabling it or something. I think the only Exp Inc game that didnt work with the PSV TV was Op Abyss at start due to some issue with the update? But after that it was fixed pretty quick. I think? it was that game as had tweeted them about it I remember. Everything else worked right out of the box.

Not sure to be honest. I think we did? Although one look at NISA's EU store prices....ouch.

Yeah that seems to be the general consensus on the NISA EU store. Esp when it first went live folks went apeshit about the pricing was what I remembered the most.

Operation Abyss is almost fanservice-free. A lone artwork of the girls in bikinis & maybe the 'ninja' class artwork and that's basically it.

Thanks, would you say OA is a better game than those others, though?

But what about the XB1 version?

Dont think anything has changed on that as they still talked as if things are on schedule on the last live stream they did 2 weeks back? Since its Experience Inc that is publishing that and not NISA. They already gave a general timeline for when the potential release might be as they seemed to be aiming for a simultaneous release with the JP version. Though the US version will be digital only. No idea if the JP version will have physical copies or not, but Id imagine so.

Hope they do their usual LE, both the art and music for the game are great. And I never got around to buying the Japanese OST or art book.

I enjoyed it a bit more than Demon Gaze overall, yeah, although it's a little lighter on challenge. It's pretty old-school style despite the futuristic setting. Some of the interface is a little clunky.

Yes! We're getting the superior version, not the moe Xbox version crap. This game has such wonderful artwork. Really pleasantly surprised by NIS America's release schedule for Europe too. They're definitely my favourite localization team nowadays. Just awesome. Day one for this definitely.

Vita really has such an awesome library of Japanese games.

Someone is a bit misinformed. Since the XBO version users can switch the artwork to the original or new style.

Wonder if all the companies want to get these out of the way before the PlayStation Experience next month, since Id imagine there wouldnt be much "stage space" for vita announcements...

Well, they got the Witch & Hundred Knight PS4 announcement out of the way recently too. Companies like this are more "show off the game on the show floor" than announce it at the conference.

2016 is Vita's best year for software.

I don't think anything is going to top 2014 for me, that year was insane. Especially if you lived in Europe where we got some delayed localizations too.

However, 2016 is definitely shaping up to be a fantastic year for Vita imo.

So it's not a good idea to start the genre with this game? Honest to say the artwork grabbed me when it was revealed for 360.

Just understand that the game permadeath exists. You can save and reload. Though you do lose all of the time spent in the dungeon. So in general will have to try to be a bit more careful than other games where you can basically revive your characters any time you like.

Even characters that are injured the cost to recover them quickly be it resurrection or LP recovery is insanely high. So time that they will have to be bed ridden is quite long.

Thankfully the title does give you enough character slots to have backup characters made that gain a smaller percentage of exp in comparison to the main party, but you will have spare characters ready to use. Granted not as strong, but better than Lv1.

Its not that the game is super hard or anything, but it does punish players who do not put a little bit more thought into their actions. Then there will be the randomness thrown in later on also in regards to enemies that perform more frequent 1 hit kill type of moves. Or extremely high damage.

Though the game itself is quite well made, so you might wind up enjoying it and there is nothing that is too overly complex for the most part. Hopefully the digital or physical? manual will cover the important details also.

Basically for newer players I would not suggest making any supporting character have 1 LP. As accidents / misfortune can and will happen. So at least having 2 will be a small buffer so that you wont lose someone instantly.

Overall though it should be a fairly interesting experience if it will be your first DRPG lol

Not really, as under the fresh coat of paint (redone art style) the game still is the very same basic code / mechanics from their very first title as Experience Inc, which is the Generation Xth series. Even the president of the company himself has said that they overall were not too happy with the outcome of Abyss and would suggest people go play Babel instead as improvements were made to the title. Abyss pretty much is just a reskin of the first 2 Generation Xth games.

Now the reason of the focus why I say that its a "reskin" of their older title, is due to the fact that since it was one of their first titles a lot of the game design mechanics were not exactly user friendly to people new to the genre or not familiar with DRPGs or Exp Incs titles.

So while there are some points people may like and the larger point which is no fanservice that was a big drawback of Demon Gaze due to some scenes, Demon Gaze system wise is a lot easier for a new user to the genre to play. But its not like Demon Gaze is not without its own issues such as the lack of explanation of some things are.

Same. I think we'll still get Ray Gigant eventually, but I'll gladly pick this up too.

Id like to think so as its a new IP for them. Plus their chance to get into the dungeon rpg craze while its still hot lol.

Though seeing how they are not too into dubbing stuff for smaller project titles would imagine it would be JP voice with subtitles?

"Vita only releases are not viable anymore"

i just want people to temper their expectations for 2016 and beyond. stuff like this won't be the norm for long.

i get it thought. the vita doesn't have a successor, so it's harder to let go of it more than other platforms. i just think you should be prepared for the winding down period.

from here on out, vita-only releases are going to be mostly with some ulterior motive attached. don't take that to mean something against the consumer either. it's more about business relationships.

It's been trademarked by Bamco EU. We are never gonna get it.

Yeah I could see that. They're only subbing Digimon and I believe they've used subtitles for a few other releases recently (only Tales of Hearts R comes to mind atm).

As a consumer, as long as I'm getting the games I want for the platform I have, the company gets my money. If they're doing it for reasons other than money, it doesn't really matter from a consumer perspective.

That said, it's interesting you say that, as japanese developers are starting to show how they force their hands with western publishers a few times, like Falcom and the Cold Steel games.

So awesome. Fantastic lookin' art in this game, will def. be grabbing it day one. Have wanted this to come over to the west since I saw screen shots on gaf earlier this year!

would rather prefer something like the demon gaze one. as the abyss and babel ones (same design) were just too damned large

Yepp, dang that thing was large. I wouldn't mind if there many if them but they aren't uniform and sticks out so it gets annoying :/

Anyway, hype!! Been playing the PC version but it takes to long between times so I have to relearn all the Damn menus before I can set out again. BTW I havent made much progress but are they still rehashing music assets layer on?
