Is it possible to abandon a quest to come back later?

I went to the police station and now helping Paladin Danse to get the engine core at Arcjet Sytems.

was really loving this game but I think i'm done with it due to the assigning resources mess. I can create and place my water pump; however I can't assign anyone to do.

Any help or ideas?

BTW, I know i'm very early in the game.

You don't need to assign anyone to water, it's automatic. If it's a purifier you need to provide power to it.

You need to assign food and defense.

So I just met
Elder Maxon on the Prydwen

If I keep going forward with the mission is it going to lock me out of anything?

You should not rage quit a game over that. You don't need to assign anybody to water. (You might need two pumps for the sanctuary quest).

Someone said I can give armour to the dog. Exactly what armour can I use?? He "dies" in every single fight I'm in and I'm not a high enough level to raise his stats.

On what's that Dogmeat, you found something? And it's a baseball bat? That's great. On wait, you found something else two seconds later? And it's aaaaa...hard hat. That's great, thank you Dogmeat.

Is it too much to ask devs like Bethesda to learn how to do running NPCs? After TW3, I want to scream when I'm forced into these crappy walking sections.

You do know that dogmeat can bypass locked containers... right? He can actually get you the gun that is locked in the vault where you start. Its a gun you can only get after you are level 18, and is one of the most OP guns in the game.

Guess Dogmeat is pretty cool now.

Couldn't you just take the power supply out and then no one can steal it?
But... that's literally the tip I mentioned that the post you quoted was in response to :( lol
Is there a key? I know there's a mission in the dish to
get a locket.

If you already opened the doors however, there's nothing else you can do with it. There's 2 terminals connecting to the same door, so it's possible you found the other terminal? They both have the same text/function.
Nooo. I got through the door with the key and got all the stuff. This is the terminal I mean:

is it just a red herring? It sort of seems like
it's pointing toward a way to reactivate the dish
...

So can companions die? I've been using Codsworth and Dog, but I've just come across what could be my first human companion, provided they are immortal.

Yea, I've decided that Dogmeat is too stupid to be wandering the wastelands with me. He is getting kenneled back home. Thanks for nothing you stupid mutt.

WELP. Just ran into my first
deathclaw. Tore me to shreds in two hits with power armor.

edit:
ohhhhhh, I had like 20 health when I started fighting it. Makes sense.

aw man did I just fuck up a quest?

so back at the start of the game when you do the quest with the Brotherhood of Steel guy (not gonna spoiler tag that, its 2 hours into the game, and saying the brotherhood of steel is in a fallout game is like saying diablo is the boss in a diablo game tbh), he gives you a chance to join them as usual, I said I'd think about it and Ive had a quest to go back to the police station for like 20 hours now because I was afraid it would interfere with the minutemen stuff.

HUGE STORY SPOILERS AHEAD

so now I just did the stuff with Nick in Fort Whatever, killed the dude that kidnapped Shaun, and when I exit Fort Whatever, there is a HUGE ASS BROTHERHOOD BLIMP flying above with a bunch of helicopters, with a new military signal that says "all BoS personel report back to the police station" and gives me a new quest to go talk to the dude at the police station. So did I pass the point where I could do that first quest to join them, seeing as they are reving up for...something aparently?

self quote!

seems im fine with my Brotherhood of Steel stuff, loaded a previous save and a current one to compare. Minor spoilers ahead

in my old save, I still get the 2 quests from Dense's soldiers, and his quest is still to support the recon team. but when I join he assigns me the rank of recruit

when I go there on my current save, post all that story stuff I said in my first post, after the big ass blimp scene and new radio quest to return to the police station, there is now a paladin outside the police sttion, the quests I get are the same but Dense makes me a Knight now for whatever reason, not a recruit. also the new radio signal quest that says to talk to dense is still there, im not sure if I cant do it until ive done his first one when you join.
Bah this is what I get for piling up quests

i say we stop telling people about his magic lockbreaking skills. those that cannot appreciate the glory of dogmeat are not deserving of his wonder.
They faint then come back once the battle ends.
You can stimpack them <insert-multiplayer-FPS-with-this-mechanic>-style during a battle too if you want.

Screw you guys. Not only does Dogmeat divert that gang of ghouls giving me time to fight back, he's point out to stashes to me that I had missed. My pooch is real.

I have a question about Red Rocket:
The terminal there mentions a cave where they dump what I'm guessing is radioactive waste that's located under their gas station but I spent a lot of time looking for it and haven't been able to find it... is it a Magoffin?

Feel like this game is a lot harder than the previous 2 because of how the combat is more real time now and that even VATS does not pause the time and that you can get hit and die during VATS.

Also because how aggressive the enemies are they just bum rush you and the shooting isn't good enough to accommodate that as you are just walking back and shooting most of the time.

Go Bethesda!

They've doubled down on hard set key bindings by making the game unplayable for me.

I use E to move forward.

E is also the pick up from container button. And the pick up body button. And the oops you just stole an item from some npcs container and now they're shooting you button.

There was a mod for Skyrim to fix this, but there it was a nuisance. Here it pretty much breaks the game for me. I dug around in the files a bit but didn't see any obvious place to change the binds.

Ugh.

It's a mole rat den, right out the back (go past the glass dome phone booths) down the hill a bit

EDIT: In fact, it's featured in this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cA5OFSjodH4

Nope. Its where the Molerats came from. There is a real cave.

No, it's actually there. Look for the telephone booth. A few meters behind it.

Did you guys buy the house in diamond city?

Its there. Just look around. Towards the back if i remember correctly.
Its like a mound with some trees that leads to an underground cave.

I've noticed a few times now that if I'm talking to a quest giver and the mouse moves, changing the camera to the normal 3rd person view, the quest won't update, and just points back to the quest giver. Then they just talk as if you have the quest now, so I can't do the quest unless I reload an older save.

So, do settlers need ammo for their weapons?

And what are those thief settlers? They can use your power armor but are there some settlers who steal your items?

Thanks ya'll :)

The first thing I did when I rolled up on Red Rocket was scrap everything so maybe I shouldn't do that to special locations so quickly :S

soo guys i did the quest thing for struges at my sanctuary.. and he says everything is good, and he doesnt need anything but talk to preston...

i talk to preston and he just say bs then keeps doing his walk.. is there another quest thats not coming up or something???

I don't talk about anything south of Concord below.

I planned to sculpt a wonderful post apocalyptic castle, but I got side tracked, decided to build a two story bunk house, fulfill Sturges' request and just went around exploring.

Wondered over to a crashed Verti-bird, then over to the array. The mini-gun toting raider was interesting, but I came out with a fuck ton of ammo, and I stumbled across a sweet short hunting rifle. That's now half way to becoming my default sniper; just need some more adhesive for a proper stock.

I actually LOVE the customization; being able to play with the base platform and create what you want for your own style is awesome. I'm quickly relearning how I played 3/NV; have a weapon for every ammo type! This game forces you to have a wide selection of weapons for all scenarios, which is nice, because previously I've just used sneak and a sniper rifle to one shot things from miles away. With how aggressive enemies can be, a sawn-off shotgun I found has been an absolute lifesaver.

I've barely scratched the surface, and yet I already feel like I've done a lot (about five hours in, level 8).

what are the synth pieces for? I thought it was armor for Nick (lol) but no
