Nintendo Direct coming November 12 [Over]

This just popped up on my Twitter.

Just printed this out for myself and my coworkers. Going to be weird when customers come up and see these...

What else are you expecting him to say? Of course it is powerful enough for whatever they are cooking, because they are cooking it for that console. That's a trivial necessity. The Wii was also powerful enough for Skyward Sword, because they have been making Skyward Sword specifically for the Wii. That doesn't mean that the specs are not an issue. Just as the specs of the Wii very obviously limited the scale of Skyward Sword, one gigabyte of memory available to the application and a potato CPU are restrictions for any open world game design. The Wii U's specs are underpowered compared to the state of the art, and low specs limit game design.
Its all about game design.. I dont think Wii specs limited skyward sword. I mean forreal xenoblade was on Wii. XCX is on Wii U. Yeah you probably get some better textures but the scale is up to the design.

No, the footage looked rough because the footage was dog shit. It was captured off-screen with small screen real-estate, then blown up so that everyone could make out the details. It was a hot mess.

Zelda Wii U isn't going to have realistic looking textures. It's stylized, which is why some of the textures didn't look right in the off-screen footage from last year.

Bad footage wasn't the reason those realistic rock and ground textures were ugly as hell. Hopefully dev time polishes it up significantly, but even then the devs aren't magicians (maybe monolith are magicians). It'll have some ugly details almost certainly.

All consoles are underpowered compared to the state of the art. It's developers' jobs to squeeze their vision onto these boxes successfully. So far, Nintendo has been mostly consistent with that this generation. There's a front page full of framerate complaints and analysis threads to show cases where developers have overextended their render budgets on consoles that have a lot more available to them.

I'm not sure if this is a stupid question or not, but do we know if Nintendo will still utilize YouTube to show the Direct. I know that YouTube Gaming exist now which is dedicated to streaming, do you think that will be used instead?

NoE keeps relying on Twitch and Nintendo's own site.

I don't think Sakurai would go after most votes. This is the guy who added Duck Hunt duck and dog. Thats what makes me actually think Minecraft guy would have a chance, because he would add something new.

And well, money.
The more I think about it, the more I think Banjo and possibly Minecrafter are in Smash.

MS said Banjo in Smash is ok.

MS and Nintendo work out a deal of bring Minecraft to WiiU and possibly also Minecraft character.

It makes more sense when you think about the datamined Windows logo in Mario Maker. Why would a windows logo be there unless theres a big deal between MS and Nintendo? Minecraft by itself wouldn't count I'd think since Ms wants it on everything.

..my God Banjo is actually happening!

The meltdowns if Minecrafter gets in and no Banjo would be glorious too.

PS: Calling the character "Minecrafter" like Villager since I highly doubt a Minecraft rep would get in with no female alt

You could say the same for Wind Waker's simplified textures if you captured them off-screen and blew up the compression, but then you'd be wrong, because the actual game doesn't look like that.

From the direct feed footage, the same painted textures look perfectly fine

Look at the rock on the far left. It has the SAME EXACT texture pattern, but looks just fine in direct feed. If that rock was captured off-screen and blown up, it would look a hot mess.

ugh, heh at leas the skyline looks nice.

But anyway, it would still have rough edges if it was NX exclusive (assuming the NX is even that much stronger...) because it was started and developed on the Wii U for X amount of time.

So all having it exclusive would really do is miss out on a sure few million sales from the Wii U.

Nvm, I just checked, it looks like you can watch all of Nintendo's content on YT gaming as well, and it has a section dedicated to their past streams.

I'm going to check later in the day if I can watch in on YTG, see if the experience is any different.

Context matters.

Case in point

Never judge a game's graphics from non-direct feed footage.

It really does look fine. Half of that vga demo was nothing but unfinished textures anyway. There was a whole bridge that was one rock texture or something. Anyone who thinks that stuff is finalized must be clownin.

WW's textures are basically solid colors. I don't think changing footage quality would alter anything. And while you say that my pic is "blown up", the pic in your example is really zoomed out. That's not the in game camera.

Here's another pic from the reveal trailer.

You can see blurry textures on the tree and rocks on the left.

ANYWAYS, I'm not sure what you're trying to argue here. This game will not look as good as it could've on better hardware. There's no big mystery here.

edit: And your example of something blown up is just a huge picture of nothing but the rock lol. Come on.

Because I said it was finalized lol.

Nintendo's gonna blue ball me with another X trailer tomorrow aren't they?

Thanks for watching. Hopefully now you have a better idea on what Mario Tennis offers in terms of mode and options. Wish they allowed us to show more in a stream, but I'll do some individual clips of various modes and matches soon.

You the one who said it will have ugly textures.. so you must saw some finalized version.

People need to realize that NX version of Zelda Wii U will be... well, just a quick-and-dirty NX port of Wii U game, enhanced just slightly and being made just for the sake of selling more units of hardware and software. It won't push the NX capabilities, neither will it make the new Zelda better.

There you have it.

Sticker Star trailer? What? That needs to be corrected.

Bad footage wasn't the reason those realistic rock and ground textures were ugly as hell. Hopefully dev time polishes it up significantly, but even then the devs aren't magicians (maybe monolith are magicians). It'll have some ugly details almost certainly.

Considering how Monolith Soft collaborated with Skyward Sword and A Link Between Worlds I would bet they're collaborating with this one too.

Just like every other game out there...

I made a smash bingo card..

NPqZ5lF.png

notes:
-stages and dlc characters don't have to come out asap.. As long as they are announced they count.
-adventure mode includes something like subspace
-buffs means.. Any buffs that are more noteworthy as a whole for the upcoming patch over previous patches.
-1st party dlc character I mean a character that doesn't have a franchise represented on the CSS..

This is all assuming we get a smash bros news and patch of course.

Wow. My normal direct policy is "spew hype nonsense because it cracks me up while secretly expecting nothing at all," and on the direct at which I have given up on nonsensical hype, the Minecraft thing comes out. Guess I'll be double-dipping. Wonder if any other meaningful things await us.

Spongebob bingo card saved. Tomorrow will try my patience. i'll have to lsoe myself in work.

I don't think this blown up, blurry, off-screen picture does Wind Waker any favors

maxresdefault.jpg

As you can see, it's not representative of the game's graphics.

Anyway, the blurriness you see on that tree in the Zelda Wii U footage is from compression artifacting. That's the whole point of what I'm saying. The quality of footage can have a profound effect on how a game looks.

The Monolith that does Xenoblade and the Monolith that makes assets for other games aren't the same people I'm pretty sure.

Aren't they? Interesting considering they only have 123 emplyees as per Wikipedia. The Tokyo seems to have worked on Skyward Sword(the studio that developed Xenoblade Chronicles X), while the Kyoto studio worked on A Link Between Worlds, Pikmin 3, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Splatoon and Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer.

Does anyone know how long it took Wind Waker HD to come out after being announced?

Announced on January of 2013(in the very same Direct XCX was shown for the first time, I think) and it released on September of 2013, when it was announced there were a few screenshots only, not actual video until months later, if I recall correctly.

Does anyone know how long it took Wind Waker HD to come out after being announced?

Windwaker announced in late January and came out in late September(in NA and Japan).. 8 months.

Majora's mask was announced last november and came out in Feb, which is only 3 months.

I'm guessing IF we get TP HD announced, it will come out sometime in Feb to summer time.

Yeah, but YouTube is among the worst with their video compression and blurriness unless you're watching in 2k or 4k video options if available.

I can't usually see any difference between an HD video of a game and the game on my screen so it prolly doesn't make much difference. Heck if anything the small screen makes it look nicer, but that's just me. If I had a gigantic HD screen like some do maybe I'd feel differently.

I really don't see why what I said is so controversial. Freaking Infamous SS on PS4 has rough spots, Zelda sure as hell will unless they go extremely surreal with the artstyle like a Wind Waker or Okami.

I think it's implying that Paper Jaam is going to be like Sticker Star. It has the Mario and Luigi there.

Well Bowser at least talks now so we're off to a good start.

And you know, battles actually matter. I really wonder what theyre gonna show for the newest trailer, i wanna see original enemies.

pretty much this. I think it should come out on both with a staggered release to get people to double dip. Like Smash Bros (but the difference in graphics will be less)

I feel like people are forgetting their goal is to make money.

True but if there's any benefit to the NX version Imma get that one.

Well of course.
It's only weird when people say the Wii U version shouldn't exist because of "holding back".
If the NX is strong, there's no way a Zelda port would tap into it's potential regardless. Given it's dev history.
Discarding a Wii U version would just be discarding money at that point.

Except we're talking about Nintendo and even when that's their goal they make some unexpected or even strange decisions...

Yeah, they're unpredicatable, so I'm saying unless there's some crazy new information on Zelda, the smartest business decision at this point would be to put it on both.
