Pretty disappointing because I expected a better first party presence and more Switch 2 patches.
I felt it was super weird how they went "you can play all of these (Switch 1) Mario games on the Switch 2 as well" during the 40th anniversary segment with a highlight reel, but didn't mention anyhting about any patches for any of them.. Mario & Luigi Brothership could really use a patch. And stuff like Luigi's Mansion 3 would look even more incredible at higher resolution..

Patches for a bunch of these Mario titles would've been a great 40th anniversary thing to announce imo.

I expected a good show since it was slightly over an hour long. I know its still early in the Switch 2 life-span but it was a let down.

No MonolithSoft updates of any kind was very very Disappointing.

However if you're a Mario and Mario World fan than I guess this was a great Direct.

Metroid is Divisive but I liked the look of it.

East B for me, lots of cool stuff comming out... bunch of wierd stuff as well (pokemon farming/Minecraft like game... virtual boy games!!... yes please.)...

Good amount of games, but nothing that makes me want to buy a Switch 2. Most exciting announcement was the movie sequel. For me personally a C overall.

First time in my life that I've regretted purchasing a console. Genuinely. Mario Kart World held my attention for a couple weeks.

Donkey Kong Bonanza couldn't really grab my attention and I'm still in the island layer you get to after escaping the underground. Haven't played the game in weeks.

I really got a Switch 2 at launch for Metroid Prime 4, but it merely has a "NiNtEnDo SwItCh 2 EdItIoN" and the motorcycle shit looks janky as fuck.

It's almost like Nintendo forgot that adults buy and play games on their systems. This direct had Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection and Resident Evil Requiem. Practically everything else was for drooling toddlers and tweens.

No offense to any adults who enjoy those games. I just get tired of all the slow-paced, "babby's first" type of games Nintendo puts out. The shit that has constant tutorials and hand-holding for the first 2 hours of the game.

The Direct having nonstop paid DLC and Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of games we already played 20 years ago or on the Switch is just straight bullshit, lol.

No Mario Paint 2, Super Mario Maker 3, F-Zero, mainline Mario, Animal Crossing, Mega Man X9, Mischief Makers sequel, or anything original/new/interesting that isn't catering to 8 year olds.

Couldn't give a fuck less about some goddamn Kirby or Yoshi or Pokemon. I love RPGs but Dragon Quest remakes and Fire Emblem do nothing for me. At all. Oh, no. The kingdom is under attack by an enemy kingdom. Again. Someone in my court betrayed me. Again. Drama, battles, British accents, anime flair. Yay.

Mario sports games have always been a snooze fest to me so a new tennis game is whatever...and I even played tennis in high school.

I really should have not made the Switch 2 an impulse buy. That's completely my fault. I did the same thing with the first Switch, but at least it had Breath of the Wild at the time. Switch 2 release feels like N64 all over again with Pilotwings 64 and Super Mario 64...except, this time, it's Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bonanza.

Back to the Steam Deck I go.

A lot of first party games shown and they have a good lineup for the coming months. But outside of Fire Emblem none of the new games were exciting.

There was good news from a Japanese third party perspective, but not from a Western one. I was surprised we didn't get any dates for Elden Ring or Layton, and that we didn't see anything from Ubisoft.

So C for me.

C for me. Some decent looking games, but a lot of time spent on re-releases. I'm always up for a bit of Yoshi, so that looked cool. Undecided about Metroid and the bike sections.

I was probably a bit generous with a C in hindsight, but it could very well be a higher score for those without Xbox/PC/PS for stuff like Resi etc.,

Voted B but probably should've voted C.

A lot of 1st party announcement (Galaxy collection, new Mario Tennis, new Yoshi game, new Tomodachi life, free DLC for Bananza, Fire Emblem and other stuff I lost track of) but all were for spring 2026, which is odd, it's not like spring last for 6 months. I don't understand Virtual Boy addition, I mean why not add the DS instead ?

And in general the release schedule is packed, like Kirby Air Riders, Age of Calamity, Prime 4, Pokémon Z-A, Galaxy collection, Fire Emblem, Mario Tennis, Yoshi, and other stuff I forgot about. It's good to have sequels to previous entries, new elements, not just Smash/3D Mario/new Pokémon Generation/new mainline Zelda.

It's cool to see a release date for FF7, even if I don't understand why it take this long to release it.

DQ and FE made this manage a D but barely. After that desastrous start into the gen, I was hoping for a Direct that made all the naysayers go silent. Didn't happen obviously. They are really squeezing and maximizing their perceived brand strength. Don't know about you, but when I see something like Mario Tennis praised like the second coming of Jesus and having an 80 dollar price tag, I'm not getting hyped up. I'm thinking they're overplaying their cards, love smelling their own farts and overestimating the value of their IP.

I'm torn between D and E. I'd vote for D because of TGA, but Nintendo usually never participate so...

For being at the beginning of the gen, I expected much more.

You should sell it like me

Eh I'll give it a C. There are things to look forward to but there was a LOT of fluff in between.

Lots of games I didn't care for. Glad we got release dates for Metroid Prime 4 and FFVIIR Integrate.

Super Mario Wonder, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, RE9 and Donkey Kong Banaza DLC releasing today were nice surprises, but that's like 40% of the overall direct.

Mario Tennis Fever, Fatal Frame 2 remake, Monster Hunter Story 3 and Dragon Quest VII re-imagined were fine additions though I'd probably only get DQVII.

And usually the last announcement is what gets me excited or indifferent and this is indifferent. I do not care for Fire Emblem.

And this is just me but can they please stop giving space to farm sims? Just put them in the sizzle reel, tired of seeing the newest Minecraft/Harvest Moon rip-off.

They are releasing four games between October 2025 and December 2015. Maybes Feb to May 2026 will be equally packed.

The weirdest part to me is they sat on this hardware how long? We've had accurate leaks for years. How do you not have any games outside of rereleases and remasters ready to go? People like to complain about other console 1st parties this gen (which is fair given the output), but Nintendo don't even have the excuse of launching into COVID to deal with.

Not a disaster.

So, a B from me.

Metroid footage looked good. Its the only game that justifies Switch 2 for me. But its on Switch 1 so will play on that instead.

D.
Couple of cool looking games here and there, but wasnt exactly mind blown by anything they showed.

Metroid Prime 4, the game I'm looking forward to play the most, looks like a barely upscaled Switch game. :/

C+ for me, I think it's maybe the best Nintendo Direct they had in a few years.

Already known games look good, nice announcements like the movie, Mario Tennis, Yoshi, Mario Galaxy 1+2 refurbished or Fire Emblem, plus the Virtual Boy thing (even if 99.% of its games suck hard, I'd say Wario and Mario Tennis were its two only good/decent games) the unexpected and welcomed RE downports and an interesting DQVII (multiplatform) remake announcement.

Any megaton, but leaves a solid lineup for the next let's say 6-9+ months or so.

It really wasn't good enough at all.
But the switch itself was kinda coasting through these the previous years if we're honest.

But this is your new console Jesus.
It's gonna be a rough Christmas for them. Prime 4 is already on switch 1 and I wouldn't say it's a system seller anyway so they're gonna rely hard on a spin off Pokemon game and Kirby air riders.. good luck.

95% of the games are coming out on switch 1 as well. That's kinda the issue when you spend every generation since the Wii not prioritising graphics and focusing on not getting the bigger western graphically focused games.
When you suddenly decide to release a new system that is just merely graphically better.. then who cares?

I think hilariously that awful looking ditto game is switch 2 exclusive ( why?)
And the fire emblem game which does look great but I'm weary of the series since echoes was so bland.
And resident evil 9 which is a great get I'm not gonna lie there but the lack of dev kits is really making them look bad here.

The only current game i'd get a switch 2 for is donkey Kong. That looks great and I can see genuine effort put into it this doesn't look to change that this year.

Once again it was a great show for the Switch 1 😂

Nintendo have dumbed down their games to the point that they're boring as shit to play. Donkey kong bonanza is braindead easy which makes it braindead boring, and i'm sick and tired of nintendo games being dumbed down to the point that they're snoozefests.

Seemed kind of "meh". I was surprised to see no Mario Galaxy Switch 2 version. It is good to have S1 physical though as that's what I will grab.

Metroid looked kind of mid, not what I was expecting. Mario Wonder looked and ran great on regular Switch.

Fire Emblem "could" be good but need to know more.

I was also surprised not to see any Xenoblade Switch 2 announcements. Basically still not in any hurry to get S2.

Edit: C from me, it wasn't terrible, but nothing exciting.

Happy about Galaxy 2. Really didn't care about any other first party thing shown. So, yeah, pretty meh direct.

Nintendo are releasing four new games in the next three months, and already have six games annouced for next year. The remasters and DLC are on top of that.

That's quite a lot no?

I enjoyed it a lot.

New gameplay mechanics and level designs are things I've been looking forward to in a 3D Metroid ever since Other M started exploring that possibility space.
I understand if others prefer a more solitary and less action focused experience, but hopefully the game gives us both.

Yoshi looked beautiful and I hope it delivers on the potential I saw in the brief reveal.

Galaxy 2 - finally!

DK Bananza DLC available now - awesome! The island looks glorious.

Those were enough for me to rate it an A.

As a Nintendo fan for the last 40ish years, there's absolutely nothing in there that would get me to buy a Switch 2. So yeah, they're releasing games I guess, but not a single thing I see makes me wanna spend the money.
