So when I switched to a different companion, dogmeat just freaking vanished (after saying he would be returning to sanctuary and he started heading off there), I fast traveled there to do some town buidling and he's not there... my favorite companion is freaking gone! :(

They will break down to their base components as needed while crafting. Say you've stored a desk fan. When you need something with screws, as you go to craft it it will auto-scrap the fan to get them. There's even a "store all junk" button.

For weapons and armor I guess you do need to drop n' scrap them.

While that is true, i'm pretty sure that an object "consumed" that way is gone after that even if you only used a part of it.

For example, an item has 2 Wood and 2 steel, if you "consume" that item while building something, but you just need the Wood of it, the steel will be lost.

Therefore it would be better to drop and scrap them, since that will break it down to it's components.

I'm not 100% sure of this, but it's what i heard.

This has been debunked.

Left over components are kept.

I would really like to know this as well, if they aren't needed I'm gonna stuff a shack full of Nuka Cola merchandise.

I'm hanging on to all my Nuka Cola's. There was a quest in F3 that involved them so I'm saving mine until I know for sure.

Check the Red Rocket gas station that's close to Sanctuary, or try waiting a day or so to see if he shows up.

Up to
kellogg
just before having to leave for work. Only got to try twice but looked like I got one shotted or something both times lol.
I was dead couple seconds after hitting I'm ready.

I know it's been said before, but fuck is this game hard.

So I was rolling around working on the quest where
you have to enter the National Guard Armory and search for the BoS squad. It took me an hour to clear this place through strategic saves and grenade throws. I'm level 12 going up against 8 ghoul roamers, a legendary, and a glowing one with a sawed off shotgun.

And then I get to the next part of the quest...
the satellite arrays and the army of super mutants..

I'm enjoying this game a lot so far, only a few hours in.

I like Bethesda games, but I was bored of Fallout 3 by this time. I'm not sure why this one clicked with me. I thought Fallout just wasn't for me but I took a chance and I'm glad I did.

Maybe it's the color?

Question regarding SPECIAL and Perks....

I know that you are supposed to play this game anyway you like but is there an advantage to upgrading your SPECIAL as much as possible first before adding Perks?

Perks unlock being able to do certian things, like unlocking advanced locks. Or local leader that gives a few benefits.

I highly recommended maxing Advanced Locks ASAP.

Not me, Sanctuary isn't getting nearly the attention it deserves because I'm so focused on my rocket observation deck.

I now realize I have not put as much effort into the building aspect of this game as I should have. Tonight when I play, less exploring more construction of awesome shit.

So i am scrapping or storing all the furniture and things in the protagonist's neighborhood, but some things like oven's, washing machines, cooking stations i cannot store and only scrap, why?

Depends on your initial build and way of playing the game. For example, I dont plan on using snipers or sneak that much, so I wont be investing much points into Agility. You can upgrade your SPECIAL through
Bobbleheads and You're special book
so dont invest all 10 points into one category right from the start.

I was level 11 and it took me about 8 tries to bring her down...Do quests scale with your level?

I finally beat her!

All I did was hang back and the unkillable npc's did all the work, i just took pot shots at it and hid before it could kill me. Rinse-Repeat.... cheap, but whatevs.

I had a questions about something, I was walking around and I got to this point where two guys are fighting about one of them being a synth. The guy was his friend or something from what I remember. Near the confrontation a bunch of enemies "Gunners" will attack, but I'm not sure who they are working with, sometimes the friends will attack each other, on another load I got attacked by everyone, it seems that the Gunners will even disrupt the conversation.

Eventually I had to sneak around the Gunners to complete the dialogue with the guys. After that, I noticed one of the Gunners had some shades so I killed all of them for some goodies and when I came to look for the characters with names, they were all gone?

Was there something bigger going on here that I missed? It was slightly confusing.

Your SPECIAL ranks determine how far up the perk "tree" you can unlock. For example, if you select Strength 4, only the first four perks under Strength will be available to unlock. Pick Strength 9 and all but one perk will be available to unlock.

Knowing that, it comes down to researching the perk chart and deciding what perks you want most from the outset - and then assigning your SPECIAL points to make that possible. Hope that makes sense.

Once you start levelling up, you can choose to invest points in increasing SPECIAL, or taking the perks you are interested in. I find taking perks early on to be more useful to your character than upping your SPECIAL. I'm not going to add any to my SPECIAL until I've got most of the perks available to me in my "base" character.

Was this in Diamond City? Pissing certain people off can trigger them sending people after you in the city so it sounds like this might have overlapped with the scripted argument (which, to my knowledge, you can't do anything with and is just there to inform you about the synth plotline).

No this was way further out from diamond city, before I even got there. It was on my way to that plant where you kill all the raiders. It was near like a broken highway bridge or something. There was also a trader house near it with a guy with a cat and a cat painting.

My Geralt and Triss attempt.

So:
A: Yes
B: No, but the game will still consider it a yes
X: Sarcasm/joke and then yes.
Y: Inquire slight and then yes.
Walk away: game will prompt you with quest as if you accept 20 seconds down the road.

Serious, like seriously, this is what we've come to? This is just sad, mostly because somewhere under this there might be an actual decent RPG. The piddly blowouts are kind of adorable in how it wants to be like STALKER.

And yes, I am riding the X option hard.

However, If you have 10 points in a SPECIAL and find the bobblehead for it, that stat will actually go to 11. This is for min/maxers only, probably.

The book doesn't raise to 11 though, only the bobbleheads.

So far all my perks are crafting or lockpicking/hacking. I need to level up my damage I am getting roughed up on Very-Hard.

Yeah, I left it on regular difficulty for that reason. I want more of the game to be unlocked (crafting, picking, etc) and not be forced to pump up my damage to just defeat enemies that have higher health and do more damage.

Where's the
book?

Silver Shroud quest:

The final step of the quest is to eliminate the guy with an optional component of saving Kent. I Robocopped the hospital with power armor and when I got to the room where Kent was being held, they executed him the second I stepped in the door. How would I have done that?

I think the writing and quest design of the game has been really at a high level. To anyone who says the writing is all shit and Bethesda sucks at this etc -- I just don't agree. It's been delightful.

I havent looked at the achievements, is there any achievements related to difficulty? Or can you 100% on normal.

The quick save in this game kinda sucks, I walked into a Subway filled with Ghouls- way underleveled so I got dead in like 3 seconds from being swarmed- game reloaded with me getting mauled-

I tried turning around and exiting subway and somehow the ghouls were outside with me and the game autosaved again, reload, commence mauling

I wanted the Intelligence Bobble Head badly, so I could unlock a certain perk. I'm only level 7, but I made it to the Public Library. Place was insane. I shouldn't have been there. But I made it, thanks to my shooter skills.

Got the Bobble Head and got my ass out of there.

This game is just amazing.

From what I've played (a couple of hours) looks like it.. the shallowest rpg choices I've ever seen :/ at least the atmosphere is all there.

I don't know if somebody already mentioned it, but the european locally localized versions on PS4 (italian, spanish etc.) all have a pretty glaring issue with audio speech: it's so compressed that it sounds like a 64 kb mp3, and it's like everyone is talking through an intercom or something.
No answers from bethesda so far.
Being bilingual I have no issue playing the game in English, but it's mostly depressing that something so important might have gotten overlooked or discovered and not addressed in other ways (I've read that the XBone version doesn't behave the same way because the uncompressed localized speech has to be downloaded separately).

I'm not even being picky here, the audio quality is just unbearable, and I can't really picture someone from QA not noticing it.

You can hear some speech at 1:29 and 3:50

I think the Save In Pip Boy option is the autosave.

Testing now.

Edit: nope
