Alright, I think I beat the main quest, my impression? Huge let down and made zero sense to me.

In general I must say the conversation system is the most disappointing thing in this game, I don't need to tell you all the problem but the biggest thing missing is the fact that skill based conversations are gone. Now, only your Charisma level will determine whether or not you can persuade someone. It's so bafflingly dumbed down I can't understand how Bethesda thought it was a good idea. All the past games had a great dialogue system that wasn't tilted to one character build. If you're character had high Charisma they might be able to charm their way through a conversation but sometimes Charm wasn't useful sometimes you needed Intelligence to convince someone of something or perhaps Strength to intimidate them. Additionally, if you were clever enough and paid attention you could perhaps discover or do something that would unlock additional dialogue options independent of any skills you had. In short, the past system was beautiful.

The current system is now:
A: Alright, I'll do what you said right away.
X: Sarcastic. (and then the NPC will get annoyed at which point you press A)
Y: Flux Capacitor? (General question of the thing the NPC wants, they tell you to not worry about it and then you press A)
B: Not right now/I have to think about it (NPC stops conversation and waits for you to re-initiate and press fucking A).

After thinking about it, yeah, the dialogue system is by far the most disappointing thing.

If they wanted a voiced protagonist, I'm sure they could have implemented it into the old system.

Woops. I forgot to sleep. Tomorrow.. err today is guna suck.

Agreed that the dialog system blows. At first i thought it was decent but it is exactly how fox just described it.

I wish reviews focussed on this. Im scared for TES NOW.

For me the worst part is how it randomly breaks the pipboy by either making it so bright/ blurry that you can't read it or when it disappears completely. Sure both issues are fixed within seconds but those seconds reaaaaally matter in combat.
Oh my god, I thought that was a bug and I was randomly applied a permanent stealth boy.

I hate the screen. Makes it impossible to see when I crouch. I have to stand and then its normal, but I break stealth.

I do have to agree with this.

In an ideal world, Obsidian will expand on this like they did on 3. Obsidian could do a great job with a Fallout game based on founding and protecting a new settlement with real moral grey areas and some interesting characters living in your settlements, weaving tangled webs.

Fallout meets Dead State!

Back to the ruins of LA this time please, Obsidian!

Obsidion isnt going to make Fallout 4 LA.. I mean I honestly doubt it

Why? TES series has never had a deep dialogue system. People talked about how FO3 was Oblivion with guns but that was never true, however, FO4 really does feel like Skyrim with guns.

That would be my dream but I doubt it will happen. Obsidian already has a full plate it seems.

Is the Covenant/the Human Error quest super buggy for anyone else? The gossipy character I'm supposed to question only gives me a one line response, no dialogue choices. The building at the end of town(the one with the terminal) that was open when I first arrived is now closed behind a master lock, no matter the time of day. At one point all the NPCs drew their guns and told me to get out, while I was walking in a public area.

Minor story spoiler

Seeing the brother hood fly over in their massive ship was kinda breath taking... I also fast traveled home afterward and I saw a brotherhood ship flyover and drop off a few knights in power armour.
It was freaking cool.

One can hope, right. Can you imagine the Fallout 4 gameplay with a decently written protagonist? Hnnnng.

Sshhhhh my penis can only get so erect. Also, despite the fact that Chris Avellone is no longer at Obsidian he did just tweet a response that he would be totally on board to work with Bethesda on another Fallout. Bethesda needs to make this happen. They did a good enough job laying the gameplay foundation down now it's time to turn over the quest design and writing to the professionals.

Have a weird bug where my weapon and PIP boy keep vanishing and only come back after I reload.

Also explored the Witches Hut,
it did not go well for me

Regarding Mama Murphy

she kept asking me for chems, I kept giving them to her. She od'd and died. Will I be missing out on anything if I leave her dead?

I asked yesterday and don't think someone answered, but i'm just wondering if it's possible to get some armor items that look cool outside of power armor?

Also, in regards to power armor, how exactly are people managing them? I really love how they are hugely powerful this time around, and the fact that you can just enter and leave them like a vehicle is a really cool change ( each time you stumble across a power armor out in the middle of nowhere is just an absolutely awesome moment to me ).

However the fact that they use power cores and take dmg that you then need to repair via resources, just makes them seem very bothersome to use. And what if you then leave them after a battle to preserve fusion core power, while exploring and area? You'll then have to keep in mind that you have the power armor still standing around, so before you move on, you'll have to remember to come back and reenter the power armor. It's also not like you can really explore while in a power armor since you'll just burn through fusion cores, right? Or am I missing something about them?

I've been using power armor like this is a jrpg, where I get a ton of super powerful healing items that I save for a rainy day then end up never using. I now have over 20 cores and really should start using them, lol.

You can quick travel with a fusion core and not use any power which helps a lot.

The more of this I play, the more it just feels like Fallout 3 Redux. So many of the quests feel rehashed and Boston often looks too much like Pittsburgh. At the same time, Bethesda removed so many of the things that made the first game rather good, and took absolutely nothing of value that was added in NV.

The crafting system is like most other crafting systems, except even more tedious, and the community restoration just seems entirely tacked on. It doesn't help that the game is so ugly to look at up close. From a distance it looks nice enough though.

Also, is it so hard to make a good PC inventory UI by default anymore? This shit is always awful until a modder fixes it to be less console like (which would be okay if you were using a controller I suppose).
Divinity OS, TW3 and this game have all had terrible inventories.

Did you guys buy the housing permit in diamond city? I kinda want to have a nice home there, but it costs freaking 2000 bottle caps.
Or do you get it later for free via a quest?

No spoilers please ^^

With how it's impossible to play an evil character, it's not even remotely there, at least Skyrim has two major quest lines dedicated to such characters.
In F04, it's just be sassy, or greedy, and that's it...

Oh my days, Corverga Assembly Plant is a shit show on PS4, dropping to single digits.

I feel like anyone that says they don't notice the fps drops is either blind, is lying, or hasn't gone into Corvega Assembly Plant.

I love it when people test these things out and lay down their observations

Currently at INT 3 with the perk, and I may or may not have

done this a couple of times.

Savescumming makes me feel dirty. I don't like to do it unless I'm playing Fire Emblem.

Skyrim did indeed have major quest lines dedicated to badness, which you undercover fairly far into the game. So does Fallout 4. Keep playing.

I'm starting to believe the framedrops are just completely coincidental. On the Xbox One, Corvega ran absolutely fine for me. I haven't experienced the 0fps stutter our friends at Digital Foundry were so quick to point out, either.

On an unrelated note, a quest I had feared bugged just fixed itself. The character in question, whom I couldn't report to anymore, just randomly told me to go report to another character instead. :lol

Was exactly the same for me too.

Sure, it's not like the game's very hard and I desperately need the experience or anything. Just thought I'd give it a try and since it took 10+ reloads both times, I probably won't do it anymore.

Savescumming in a game like FE where you can permanently lose someone is 100% A-ok in my opinion

I've been emailing DF about the frame freeze issue. I eventually managed to recreate it - after a 12 hour single session. The forums aren't flooded with people saying the game freezes for seconds at a time, I think something has gone on with the DF setups.

Except for the, you know...non existent roleplaying going on with this game. Even if you played a one-dimensional character in Skyrim, it was still your one-dimensional character.
This isn't even really just about how everything is voice acted now either. It doesn't matter how you build your character, you'll either be "martial arts dad" or "pew pew dad" and most of the choices you make don't matter.

I go from 60 - 45 when outside on the catwalks. Those that are claiming they don't notice either a) aren't getting them due to having a ridiculous gaming PC, b) don't really care or c) aren't sensitive to it.

Or thieving rotten criminal woman, which I'm playing easily enough. Much like in Skyrim or Oblivion, if you don't want to be the hero don't do the main quests, where you saved the world.

Are you not using vats??

if 4-5 enemies are charging you and you have barely enough action points to kill one of them, what is the point of VATS? It's much easier to just play it as a shooter (and hope Fallout5 brings back VATS)

seriously, am i playing it wrong or is VATS just not very usefull? The perks dont seem to change it that much.

Looks like one of the animators had a crush on Piper or something, she's faaaar more lively animated than anything else I've seen so far. Not necessarily better, but at least she gestures and such.

VATS seems better with a high luck build. I also got a few weapons that do insane critical damage, so every time I enter VATS I know I'm gonna fuck shit up.

That said, I barely put a dent into some of these higher level enemies, even with VATS and criticals. It's pretty crazy. :p

but in FO you were either "martial arts son looking for his dad" or "pew pew son looking for his dad" and in skyrim you were still "martial artist dragonborn" or "mage dragonborn"

:/

Using VATS is like having free attacks, depending on how much AP you have and the weapon used you can get 4-5 good attacks in before an enemy can attack you.

Also with the Mysterious Stranger perk you can get one hit kills using VATS which is very useful against the harder enemies and occurs much more often with higher luck.

Do you guys think there's a chance Bethesda would patch out the annoying sound byte when Idiot Savant triggers? It's ruined the mood of two serious conversations thus far - and scared the shit outta me, besides! I know the EXP boost is fantastic, but man. I've currently rolled back to a previous save where I don't have it, but now I'm not sure what to do.

Save us, modding community! (That will oh-so-slowly eventually come to the PS4....)

I use VATS a lot. It saves ammo and I can do some serious damage with criticals. Try to invest some points in Action Boy.

Also, if you go with a luck based character you can pretty much break the combat with the high luck perks.

Far in the game ? nope, you can start them very early in the game.

I'll have to see about those quests you talk about, but the dialogue system, and the carebear-Daddy angle your character is shoehorned-in doesn't inspire me much confidence.

I feel like im the only one who gives no shits about power armor or settlement building.
Ive been playing like i played 3 and NV.
fashion/unique weapons/bobbleheads/Infinite VATS build.
Never ending slo mo exploding heads for days.

I did not experience this on PS4.
