So I was roaming around Goodneighbor to do some questing and went inside Hotel Rexford. I ended picking up a quest from this old black dude named Rufus Rubins. The whole time I was thinking "dude this guys voice is so damn cool I've heard him from some other game. And then it freaking hits me! Its fucking
Garrus from Mass Effect
. I hope they use his voice more in this game. Would be a shame if they hired him for just one lousy side quest.

EDIT;

Writing in this game is mostly below average but every now and then I get positively surprised by some stuff, like when reading a backstory of some place or some random raider dialogue that I'm listening before I sneak attack them.

Yea im unimpressed with the writing myself. I was really hoping for more New Vegas style (dark themes/moral ambiguity) writing. Seems like Bethesda wanted to stick to "You are the destined hero! Save us from the evil Orcs....I mean super mutants!"

Ok, so can't the named settlers be assigned to a stores or what?
I've been trying to assign Strudges to a general shop for 10 minutes, the guy just wanders around and I can't shop...

It's like people forget every Fallout protag except the Courier has the same level of Wasteland experience. It's only because it's voiced it's most evident.

A lot of it also comes with the way they handeld the writing with the new dialogue system, you get situations where you meet someone for the first time and your character greets them by name, then asks them what their name is in one of the dialogue options .... like .. wtf ?!
Same when you encounter one of the dialogue options you've already picked in a different conversation, say if you asked about Ghouls? previously, if a different character presents the option you can pick it again and you'll get the Ghoul for dummies explanation from him again ....
There is also plenty of dialogue plot-holes, or things that are conveniently forgotten so that they can steer you where they want to.
The fact that you can't go back to previous dialogue options, is also VERY annoyingn cause sometimes you have two options you want to explore, and you can't because the system only goes forward ....

The dialogue system is really THE thing they managed to make even worse than the low expectations I had about it.
Close second is the PC UI :@

Other than that, I'm at the 20 hour mark and my opinion on the game has vastly improved.
Balance is way better than in 3, you don't drown in ammo as much and have to be careful about it unless you absolutely use every weapon type at your disposal.
Same with caps, without any merchant perk, between scrapping and selling it seems that having a huge amount of caps will be way harder than in F03.

There are extremely dangerous areas in the game, even when your character starts to get significantly stronger.

With crafting, they didn't pull a Skyrim where crafting was the only way to get your hands on improved equipment, you can loot it on ennemies or buy it as well, crafting is just a reliable way of getting your hands on it and have access to some prefixes that may be a bit rarer.

The legendary system adding a bit of randomization to the game is a nice touch as well, even if you die and reload, the legendary might not be there again.

But I think the thing that I like the most is how they made Power Armor a vehicle, I never used power armor in Fallout games before, but with how it works now with the shortcomings (power / repairs) to balance it I've used it as a backup when I get into very hostile territory, or when I know I'll have a hard time without it.

Also messed a bit more with settlements and build some real things at Sanctuary, and found some more tips and tricks to make cool things, power is a bit confusing though, and I'm already feeling a bit short on options when it comes to decorations and such things, but still it's fun.

Nick's quest done. Now the question becomes, is it even possible to do the other companion quests.

of course its possible I know

what I mean is, for 40 hours or so (not counting the first 15+ I spent with dogmeat, and a little bit with preston who I hate) I only rolled with nick. All the other guys pretty much didnt tag along so they didnt raise their relationship. That and the fact that alot of them since to hate it when you break into safes and shit

I probably wont worry about it and just roll with dogmeat again. Or maybe Curie, maybe try to get her to like me, I hear her quest is good. /shrug

Seems like a people here don't understand that story spoilers meaning end game discussions belong in the spoiler thread. Really wish we had a report button.

Shame because this thread was the most spoiler free place there was.

:(

Are there any other female companions aside from (Diamond City Spoiler)
Piper?

I've sided with (faction spoiler)
The Institute
and got
one of the Coursers
as a companion, but he's male.

I want to romance one of the women but I'd like to have more options than her. Where can I find them?

Ugh. Need quality of life improvements to inventory management.

Let me mark items in my inventory and the inventory of my followers that I want to keep in there.

So that I can actually use the inventory dump function.

Also, why is the settlement connection system gated behind a perk? Terrible idea.

Should've allowed players to connect them without the perk, then the perk can either remove the need to send individuals out, or it can be used to connect all the storage elements together, not just junk items.

And the actual settlement construction is beyond buggy. I've lost multiple dozens of corn to the 'I can't mouse over this thing' bug. Add on top the horrendous walk around and place stuff interface, it's just all so... meh.

If they wanted a settlement building game, then they should've actually focused on making it an integral component of the game, rather than a tacked on element.

By that, I mean proper gear management, proper building functionality, AND integrating the results and effects of managing your settlements with the story (e.g. Settlements get strong enough, they can start pacifying surrounding areas, pushing back incursions, changing the way the story line flows).

It annoys me when developers spend so much effort only to have it be so evidently and frustratingly incomplete and suboptimal once you actually start playing it in real.

Russian modder began overhauling dialogue UI. If you have the Russian language pack and can speak (there is a way in comments to make it work with any language) http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/619/?

One day we will have:

a) List-based dialogues like older Fallouts (like this mod shows).
b) Since subtitles exist in game, modders can rewrite dialogue options/questions based on summary of what will be said like older Fallouts.
c) Do Intelligent stat check with certain dialogue instead of just Charisma. Not as important since Fo3 and F:NV also used Charisma a lot, intelligence and sneak were much less used.

The game (not so apparent immediately when you start), has a lot of choices that do have impacts on the game quite heavily, even side quests with choices can even change the way the side quest works (like giving an Optional objective based on certain dialogue exploration/choices), the dialogue isn't as bad as people make it out to be if you only judge the beginning. If Bethesda just kept it list-based, made the options a summary of what you're going to say instead of words like previous games, there would have been way less criticism of the dialogue. Thankfully it seems mods will fix that in the future.

I just found this today, and I think I might go melee build for a bit.

Also, and I feel like an idiot for asking, but how do I wait in the PS4 version?

You have to sit on a chair and then you'll get a prompt to wait by pressing the triangle button.

It took me a while to discover this too haha.

Coming from an end-game level FO3 character to my current FO4 character is a nightmare. I was so used to being able to mow everything down and now I'm losing my shit against even basic level foes.

There's also
Curie
, but I'm not sure if that counts.

oh
Hancock
is a companion also? cool. So many companions, jeez

I thought up a mod that I really hope someone makes.

Anyone remember titanfall? That game where you could call down titan mechs to your current location, I want that, but just where the thing getting called down is one of your power armors.

And I think it would be "easy" to implement it in a way that makes sense in the world itself. imagine a new settlement location set in an old army test facility. That test facility could have been for testing exactly that new capability.

Can someone tell me in a non-spoilery way, whether I can get Curie
(the robot companion) a body by following the railroad quest line or will I have to side with the Institute to find someone or is it neither?

Ok kind of an odd question, but I lost my dog and have no idea how to get him back. only about 7 hours in,
Just went up and helped to settlers stop their radier problem by doing down to the plant and wiping them all out
while on this adventure i noticed my dog hasn't been around in forever. Got quite annoying, having to drop stuff because my packmule wasn't there. tried reloading, no luck, went back to sanctuary, not there, went to the rocket place where i found him, not there. Any ideas how to get him back, I just want my stuff that little bastard was carrying for me. lol

Found vault 81 and
the overseer promised to grant me access as long as I provide them with 3 fusion cores. I had plenty on me so I said of course why not. Went into the vault and triggered the conversation with the overseer, decided to drop all my fusion cores on the floor and then proceeded to get caps and access for the vault without losing a single fusion core.

Love this game.

I see your sniper rifle that never needs reloaded and raise you with a silenced shotgun that never needs reloading. :) Unlimited ammo is in a close race with extra projectile for my favorite mod. Think I'll go with unlimited ammo on shotgun, and extra projectile on everything for longer range.

Man I just met Deacon and...
Idk if he's glitchy cause he randomly has no no hair and he's in nothing but underwear, he changes Cloths often (which I assume is his quirk and I love, it's hilarious) if it's a glitch or not it makes his personality that much stranger and I crack up everytime he changes.

Not a glitch, he actually changes his appearance :)

so, its probably just bugged, but if not, I dont understand what dictates companion quests. Blatant example:

I somehow just got Curie's quest. But I hardly ever used Curie at all. I was just using her now, but then I stumbled into getting
Hancock
so I sent her to Sanctuary as usual. When I go there, also as usual, she wasnt there (stupid bug) so I caried on with a quest. I advanced the story a bit (I got my power armor and went and did the
glowing sea
bit), I return to Sanctuary after, intended on getting Curie again with me so I build up my relationship... and out of the blue, her quest is ready, I just got it.

makes no sense. oh well, not gonna complain because I want to do the companion quests but I...dont want to use them lol

edi: also, Miniguns ae TRASH. I got a special one, does 15 extra fire dmg, but it does so little dmg, I cant even kill ghouls. what am I missing? its even fully modded with the best stuff!

I really hope Bethesda use the workshop/settlement in TES VI.

Being able to construct your own homestead in consoles is a phenomenal idea. I love it in Fallout 4.
