Trying to replicate this effect. Where do the mines need to go exactly?

Put a mine behind the direction you want it to move, stand well back and shoot the mine to propel the body.

I stacked all the dead bodies from a compound and blew them out to sea, just so my Settlers didn't have to look at a load of bodies everyday.

silver shroud quest spoilers

how do i save kent? he just dies the second i open the front door... is the whole thing just on a timer?

keep talking as the shroud and all the bodyguards will run in fear, then be quick to kill the boss before he kills Kent. a saved crit for VATS helps

Can someone please explain to me how to scrap weapons for parts? Scrapping stuff in this game is still confusing to me after 15 hours. :(

in a weapon bench, press X (or whatever). it says right there on the tooltip on the weapon bench. you cant scrap any special weapons, those from legendaries with the little star attched to them. you can only scrap normal weapons

Anyone tried the inspirational perk? Any good? I always role with a follower and thinking if this would be worth it since they seem to fairly good damage otherwise.

Go to a weapons workbench, and press 'Craft'. Press Square on PS/X on Xbox to scrap. If the weapons have mods, they will be scrapped as well.

im at the 70 hour mark, and the "ok im about ready to finish this" feeling just clicked.

Im completely overleveled (47), im not finding any weapons better than what I have for ages now (I have science and gun nut 4 so I can do all the best mods), and the drive to search every new location is long gone (and Im STILL finding new ones). Thats not a bad thing by the way, like I said...70 hours (lol) and my next story quest is right after the
glowing sea
bit which aparently isnt even near the end.

Also the endless repeating faction quests arent helping, its hard to weave through the actual "proper" quests. So yeah, I think im going to focus on just story quests and meaningful faction quests now, because those I still get a kick off doing.

hell I know for a fact
The Institute
is a fourth faction, and I havent seen any of that at all yet

Where is that on the map?

Upon closer inspection it just appears to be some sort of rusted Power Armor, not sure though. It's kind of hard to tell.

Are people playing this game with the bottom inch of their TV/monitor obfuscated or something? So many people getting confused by UI elements in this game that are clearly explained on the bottom of the screen. The Polygon review mentioned something about having to Google how to run a wire from generator to an item needing power. It lists the hotkey to run a wire right there on the bottom of the screen...

The writing is absolute garbage and that's even by Bethesda standards.

Strongly disagree, I think this and Morrowind is Bethesda's best written stories/characters. Fallout 3 was pretty damn bad, only Three Dog is an interesting or memorable character, the whole father overarching quest is silly just like the Shaun one in Fo4, but Fo3 has practically no interesting characters at all. Bethesda really improved and has made some memorable characters with Fo4. Skyrim is really bad as well, same with Oblivion. Bethesda has never had good writing skills but you can see they made a decent effort with characters in this game. Fo4 also has some well written quests. There are quite a few gems in this game that stand out amongst other Bethesda games. IMO, Bethesda has improved their writing, particularly characters in comparison to their other games.

Anyone else do The Big Dig quest?

Perhaps its not a good idea to rely on your ai scripting so much, Bethesda, holy shit that was a real trial

You know steam also saves an uncompressed PNG as well right?

no I did not >_>

Question: are there any city areas comparable to diamond city in scope, or is that the only one?

thats the only one unless LATE GAME SPOILERS
The Institute
has one aswell. There is a smaller one called Goodneighbor close by tho, which I quite enjoyed since its shady

I mean sure I suppose it's my opinion, but I doubt you'll find many logical explanations as to why 200 years after the bomb makes any damned sense.

I like how a lot of the answer to bad Bethesda writing is just to pretend it isn't there or ignore it. In the thread about the shitty intro some others were saying they just ignore it. Now when pointing out that 200 years after the bomb doesn't make any damned sense someone says just pretend it's 40.

You know what? That's bad world building. When your world doesn't make any sense, that's bad world building. Almost everything about the world falls apart the moment you think about it.

I actually don't have a big hard on for Obsidian like some others. The only thing I've played of them is Fallout NV, and while I could recognize the writing was much better than Fallout 3, I was never one to praise it to high heavens. The writing here just isn't that good.

That said, The characters so far seem a bit more memorable than Fallout 3. The only person I can barely remember from Fallout 3 was some radio dude, and that's about it. I can't think of another game I have less memory of its characters than that, so that says something.

Dude it's a video game haha

Nope. There are games from other devleopers that are better written, but this is much better then Fallout 3, Oblivion and Skyrim.

Indeed. I agree that the story could be much better, but honestly, they've improved since Skyrim and even took some pointers from New Vegas. Companions actually feel like people instead of mere pack mules, for instance, and romance actually makes sense now compared to Skyrim's crappy marriage system. The dialogue system is the main thing that lets the game down.

Just ran into a Glowing Deathclaw. As if those fuckers weren't terrifying enough.

I ran into one on a roof of some building in one of my exploring binges. Also it was nighttime so he looked extra scary. And extra Godzilla-y

I think people like to bring it up because it would be one of the easiest things for them to 'fix,' but they just don't give a fuck. It shows very blatantly and quickly how bad they are at writing.

This! So much this!

For people going "lol realism" why don't you go play the Witcher 3 if you want to see a game that has a fantasy setting yet still manages to construct a believable world. Hell, Skyrim is more believable than post-nuclear Boston in Fallout 4!

Hey folks, quick question. Im wanting to go sneaky, and invest in mister sandman for the silenced weapon damage. But...when am I going to actually get silenced weapons? Even with gun nut, seems like it'd take till level 18 to slap a scope on a pistol. I assume that's when I'll start finding silenced weapons, or in Diamond City?

Im honestly a bit torn about specializing in rifleman or what have you, don't want to limit myself from the majority of the weapons in the game by speccing into a class.

Can i still do the faction quests after I finish the main story?

Yes, but at some point late in the game you will have to make some tough choices which locks you out from some factions.

I'm going to repost a post from earlier.

Late game and factions spoilers (not story spoilers though). Things you have to be aware of below. All factions are mentioned below, so don't read if you haven't joined them all. Below is information on how to get all endings and trophies/achievements.

There are four factions you can join. The Minutemen, Brotherhood of Steel, the Railroad and the Institute. When it comes to the Minutemen, you're safe, no matter what you do and the choices you make, you will still be a part of the Minutemen. However, late in the main quest and/or late in some of the faction quests you will have to make choices which leaves you out of two of the three factions. So if you choose to still be a part of the Railroad, that will eventually lock you out from doing quests from the other two (BoS and the Institute), and you will become enemies with them. This basically means you have to make hard saves if you want to do all the quests, get all the trophies/achievements and get all three endings (one ending for each of the three factions, even though two of the endings are almost identical). I just beat the game and got all three endings, but had to make at least two hard saves. You will get hints and direct messages when you do a quest that will lock you out from other factions, so that's good. For example: Starting a quest x late for a faction, a message could pop up, like "this will make you an enemy of x faction".

Even game enthusiasts don't pay attention to games.

Only 10 hours into F4 so far, a few thoughts (and questions).

Thoughts:

1. Liking the town building system much more than I thought I would. I'm not a minecraft person and thought I would not like to do this, but I really am. Adds another dimension into the game.

2. Dialog system isn't as fun as F3/NV. The start of dialog seems somewhat awkward to me so far. Also the limited options you have to choose from feels like something is missing.

3. I note that (remember only 10 hrs in) there have been far less NPCs around or NPC interactions. I'm hoping this will change the farther I get into the game.

4. The technical issues seem to be overblown to me. I have noticed some framerate drops, but it's no where near as bad as some make it out to be (PS4).

5. Really enjoying my first place as a female in the Fallout franchise. I am taking black widow perks to make it more fun! The voice acting is solid so far.

Questions:

1. If you have dogmeat as a companion, can you have a human come along as well? Or is it just 1 animal/person you can have with you?

2. When you have the option to "store" something that you built, where does it go? I had a couple generators I built, then decided to place them elsewhere and stored them, now I'm not sure where they are in my inventory of my workshop?

3. Is there someone that can cure radiation like the doc in NV other than just taking radaway?

Looking forward to continuing the game, really enjoying it so far!

Can someone tell me in a non-spoilery way, whether I can get Curie
(the robot companion) a body by following the railroad quest line or will I have to side with the Institute to find someone or is it neither?

Reposting for a new page incase someone can help

How do you tell if it's cleared, other than not seeing anymore enemies?

Map icon says cleared under it.

Related to that, do all icons get [cleared] under them if they are? I did a ship by a bridge and searched fucking everywhere and that never went on my map, but I'm 99% sure I got everyone in the vicinity.

Hum, so the shop guy from the Steel brotherhood asks me to ask farmers to give food to the brotherhood, but he ALWAYS sends me to the same farm (almost below the ship). Is it a bug ?

Kind of tired of this game crashing on me, but other than that I'm having a blast. Frame rate is super crap on console and this is after coming off of Witcher 3 on console.

I don't understand how the upgrading power armor works. I've got 3 sets, 1 from the first story and 2 I've found in the world. Do i disassemble them or scrap them to get parts and just build one good one?

Edit: and in my inventory I have armor pieced like T-something. They don't weigh anything. Do I use those to upgrade?

The dialogue system seems super shallow. I didn't choose the 'The Minutemen?' option in the museum, thinking that could be the next thing I choose, but the game moves past it and everyone (including my character) is acting like I should know what they are.

I'm longing for some meaty conversations with people to kind of hook me into some story or lore (this is my first Fallout) but its all so fleeting.

Which stories and which characters? I've beaten the main quest and have poured over 20 hours into the game so please direct me to the good writing. I think FO4 is one of the worst written Bethesda games, nothing makes sense and none of the quests are particularly clever or interesting.
