Fallout newbie playing 3

I'm finding a ton of stuff. How do I know if something is junk that I can leave behind or something I need to keep for crafting in the game

I'm quickly becoming over encumbered and no where to stash even

Question about Settlements/missions.

Are the settlement quests essentially radiant, repeatable quests ? I was doing loads tonight and rescued the same kidnapped asshole 3 times from 3 different locations lol. Just seems to continuously give you new settlement missions to do

O_o

Man I did it at level 7, pretty much just ran the whole way through ignoring as much enemies/quests/new discovered areas as I can, hahaha, just head straight towards it. Quite a rush navigating the journey to there from Sanctuary.

Level 31 here and I've still not gone to it yet!

You do them to pump up your settlers happiness.

Keep a 'base' to store stuff without building on it, IE the Red Rocket Gas Station. Store your stuff in one of the workshop modules, and then just remember it in case you want to make your own little place little on. There's alot of places you can settle too, I've found about 9.

What is a workshop module? I just see the one workshop bench where I dump junk (which is what I've assumed it's for, to be converted into materials).

The grenade/molotov cocktail spam you can get in this game is nothing short of fucking ridiculous. I just had a single mutant spam throw 12 at me.

I think there's charisma equipment you could use, not sure where to get it though

edit:
"If you want charisma gear, look for glasses and TRILBY HAT. The best outfit is the Reginald's suit (male) and Agatha’s Dress (female) for completing the Curtain Call side quest at Trinity Tower. This grants +3 Charisma, or +5 with the hat and glasses"
(it's from a video of PS4Trophies' youtube channel)

Ok, thanks, I'll try that.

Anyone know where to get the trilby hat? I have the glasses already.

So I'm hoping then 7 charisma would be enough.

in sanctuary if you go to a crafting station you can tag the items you need for modding, that way you can only take what what you need. Also the workshop in sanctuary has unlimited storage for junk, you can auto drop your crap with a single button :D

What sort of weight limits do people have, I'm running around with a 250 limit, and it fills way too fast, especially if junk collecting.

even though it's a little work there is a infinite weight trick glitch with a companion all you have to do is drop the heavy stuff guns and armor on the ground and order him or her to pick it up and it will negate the followers 150 weight limit you can technically hold infinite I use it all the time..... fuck weight limit, its one ofthe only things i hate in beth games...

other than that and the cumbersome clipping in the settlement menu I've had a pretty good time i mean damn it takes forever to make a good settlement... why the fuck didn't they just let all the items clip into each other it would've been so much better

Slight spoiler:
So how many people have found the Yangtze sitting in the water? It was really cool to interact with a Chinese submarine captain that launched a nuke on Boston. I wouldn't mind a Fallout: China game.

Ok i have only did a few quests from megaton, so i probably need to find sanctuary, got it

Because if you want to stay there and die, just die.

I will not waste resources on your puny settlement.

ummm... that's the first place you visit when you find codsworth

So.. Where can I find a cosmetic surgeon?

Don't know if it means anything, but
I killed Doc Crocker
in the basement, first time I went to Diamond City. Hope I didn't screw up.

Just got to killing
Kellog and I have no idea how many times i've been killed now.

Even fighting him I died about 20 times :/

Is this game really hard or am I just horribly under levelled? there's been no skulls on names yet

Do you use VATS and position in rooms? Some of fights you can actually position yourself before you start the conversation.

Use of VATS for just that first shot is good.

That's what I'm saying man, I got about 3 fortress level settlements and I still got a gang of mother fuckers living in a shack in middle of bumfuck nowhere tending to 2 tato plants, it's crazy.

So with there being no energy weapons perk in this game, one could assume that perks such as the one for single shot rifles should apply to energy rifles as well? Correct?

Rifle perks work with all rifles regardless of ammo, its if it is single shot or automatic that is different.

  • I feel bad I'm basically letting my settlements die because I really don't care to do our their dirty work, I kept Sanctuary in the best shape.
  • I think my favorite songs are The End of the World by Skeeter Davis, Uranium Gold, and It's a Man!
  • I like that Travis gets the humor of Rocket 69 eventually.
  • I need to get at least an hour in before bed.

Kind of pissed that you can't link your house in Diamond City with the other settlements. That makes it really difficult to build out your pad since you have to manually bring in all of the resources that you need.

Is there any way to get past a bug that's preventing me from completing a mission? I posted about this a couple days ago but no one had an answer. Spoiler tags because it's the main quest:
I did the entire memory sequence in the quest Dangerous Minds but it still says to explore Kellog's memories even after I left the memories
. It sucks because I can't get any farther in the main quest and I really don't want to start a new game after putting almost 30 hours into my character. I looked all over the internet and saw some people having the same problem but I couldn't find a solution anywhere :(

Would uninstalling and reinstalling the game help? I don't know what to do.

Like... for whatever reason did you shoot him anyways?

He's not even hostile or anything... did his face pisses you off or something hahaha?

Or maybe you get caught stealing? If so, why didn't you just reload a save?

Um... Fallout.

Everything is hostile. That unassuming toy rocket you find in a children's room. enough radiation and a couple hundred years later its a mutant monster. Destroy everything!

I did a search for you
It seems another Dr takes over
I talked to the other doc after he told me he was taking over, but just got the usual conversation options..

I don't even know, dude.. Didn't think that one kill would come back and haunt me like this..

:'(

Edit:

You're still good dude, the asian doctor (can't remember his name) takes over the plastic duty details, you probably just have to come back later to talk to him about it.
Didn't see a prompt last time I talked to him, but I'll try again tomorrow!

I bought that place when I was playing drunk and regret the waste of caps. O well.

Yea. I never rush games that I like. And I am in love with this title. Oh god, I am in love.

I took my sweet time making my way south slowly until I had no choice but to approach diamond city.

...Did I mention how much I love this game?

Doesn't Leader Perk work?

No because it isn't considered a settlement. I tried to send a Supply Chain there but no dice. The best I can do is send a supply link to Hangman's Alley and then hook the items from there into Diamond City.

I thought it was a great idea in theory- big pad centrally located in the game world with lots of shops right out the door.

About to jump into Power Armor and fuck Cervega up.

rofl sounds like something that would happen in real life. Politics.

Hahaha! XD I love this gif/movie I can still hear him saying it now.

Don't worry, I think most people avoid spreading themselves too then. I myself only have two main settlements I mess with. Too much hassle having more than 2 or 3.

Hahaha.

Don't know why but julrik's dilemma is really funny to me. Maybe because it's so random.

I don't even know, dude.. Didn't think that one kill would come back and haunt me like this..

:'(

I mean, no offense julrik, but I just couldn't figure out the possible line of thought that made you shoot and kill him the first time you entered Diamond City, hahaha. I mean, that's so random that you just entered a guy's clinic and all of a sudden you decided to just shoot him, lol.

I bought that place when I was playing drunk and regret the waste of caps. O well.

So the general consensus is the house is a waste of caps? Because 2.000 caps is quite a lot of funds that can be directed to build shops in settlements instead, hmmm.

Have to say the voice acting is fantastic in this game compared to prior Fallout/Skyrim games. Also there were several voices that seemed so familiar and then I'd check IMDB and just some VA I'd never heard of. Quality.

i hate when you off load all your extra armor, weapons and junk and still end up at like 60% of your carry limit. where is all this weight

Yeah I'm using VATS its just the damage i seem to be causing is minimal while the damage they do to me is literally killing me so easy,

Hell even on the way to that place I was killed by loads of creatures over and over especially by some creature I couldn't even pronounce.

"Don't they know it's the end of the world
'Cause you don't love me any more"

Best song in the game.

Love how they brought most (all?) of the Fallout 3 songs. Butcher Pete's still choppin that meat.

Why would you hoard all of your extra armor/weapons? Just scrap them. Weapons especially have many important ingredients like screws or what-have-you (gotta get that Scrapper perk tho)

So far the voice acting seems kind of par for the course with Skyrim's to me. But I'm a slow player; there are many companions I haven't met. In Skyrim's case, all the Imperials voiced by Gideon Emery were solid, and then the generals whose characters were helmed by Michael Hogan (Saul Tigh, Battlestar Galactica) and Claudia Christen (Susan Ivanova, Babylon 5) were really good. And then some of the governors were good and some of the Daedra and that was about it.

For Fallout 4, I'd say all the guards voiced by Garrus Vakarian's VA are good, haha. And then some of the side characters like Mama Murphy really sell it too.

About 20 hours so far...I think I'm at a turning point where I either drop the game till mods are out or just mainline through the main quest.

I absolutely despise the dialogue system and I feel like I'm just doing the same one dimensional thing of killing super mutants and ghouls at this point. I've had some bugs where I can't turn in quests to Paladin Danse, halting my progress too.

It seems like they've made a cool sandbox here but I think i'm at the point where I'd rather just break it with mods since the main story and faction quests have nothing of depth to offer. At the very least the gunplay is solid, however questing feels so dull and boring and a huge step down from RPGs like Pillars and Witcher 3 earlier this year. I dunno, maybe I have higher standards now or something after those. I really feel like I'm playing Fallout 3 except with better graphics, gunplay, dumbed down RPG systems, and a dialogue wheel that no one could have looked at and thought it was better than the old system.
