can someone tell me why i can't build this fucking thing?

Looks like you can. It won't place or what? You'll need to power it up, too.

it won't place anywhere. literally anywhere.

I just wanted to follow up with a moronic resolution. after going to ever corner of this area with no way to build it, I then scrapped one metal barrel, even though i already had the 10 steel required to build the beacon, and now it lets me build it.

FUCK THIS SHIT

Ouch. I have a tool box loaded with weapon mods.

Me too haha. I knew I'll either need them eventually or just mass sell them down the line. Dumping a lot of points into mod perks too. One of my favorite parts of the game. I feel so damn cool modding a laser rifle then naming it.

I want to see more energy weapons.

There is some really beautiful violin music in this game outside of the radio. There's also been other songs/ambient music that has given me Hans Zimmer vibes.

I think there's a glitch where companions randomly wander the map. I sent Hancock to Starlight Drive-In and he randomly walked (really fast) to Goodneighbour.

so to gain any kind of influence with the companions, I'll have to have them along while exploring/questing? Can't go solo and just talk to them in towns?

So I've been reading The Road lately.
Guys, I highly recommend it while this is your current game.

The Road is abso-fucking-lutely completely emotionally draining. I never watched the movie because I can't subject myself to fucking WATCHING that story.

Yes. If you ever want to read a Wasteland story done right, at least in the emotional side, go read that. Then sit down. Try not to cry.

Well if you back out of the menu they go back to their original spot so maybe that's why?

I was at Sanctuary last night and Strong would NOT stop talking. Just line after line, constant talking.

I had to send him to a settlement with one one in it. Dude was hella annoying. Plus everything i did was pissin him off, crafting, getting in my power armor, helping people. I was like yea, your gone, dude.

i ran into this same issue. even had that happen when trying to craft for my power armor. that issue fixed itself when i pick more than what was needed to craft. it seems having the exact ammount causes that issue. for example, that 1/1 you have there.

What is it actually that you are doing there to generate that billboard ? I havent mucked around with the base building stuff much, but I did look through all the items but I couldn't work out how they did this billboard in that promotional image pre-release. Looks like it is whatever you are doing there though

That's exactly what I based this on. There's a lightbox that's under Power > Miscellaneous. The way I built it in the air like that was you have to stack them then remove the lower pieces to kind of "snake" it upwards. I just picked the height of the lowest piece to be ~where the sign was for the building and built upwards from there.

Once you finish making all of the lights and powering them all, you get out of build mode and cycle through 10-15 colors. That part took forever.
Holy shit. That's awesome.
:O wow that so cool!!!
Holy crap. That's amazing!
Thanks guys! I had fixed my Pac-Man + Ghost over the weekend and was feeling a bit more ambitious. I was in over my head a bit because I didn't expect it to get as huge as it did, but once I started I had to finish it.

Am I only allowed one beacon at a time? It's not letting me build one at the truck stop.

Edit: Nevermind, being dull and don't have the materials.

Are there any noteable, non-standard fction repeatable side quests for
The Institute
? havent looked for any yet and im wrapping it up

I spent way too much time making this for how unhappy I am with how it turned out.

We need a shitload of copper.

There aren't enough colors for proper shading.

Also the draw distance isn't far enough for me to be able to see it from the roof of my house like I hoped, or even to get a better sense of the ship.

I needed ~30 of the big generators.

i need to step my light game up after seeing this shit.

jesus...it takes forever to get Nicks quest. I have been raising his bond by beating the shit out of dogmeat, then healing him in front of Nick. Ive done it like 20 times, but hes not giving me the quest yet. Is there a way to check how strong the relationships are with companions?

For those settling in Starlight Drive In, it being such a big space..how do you guys set up your defenses?

I just put them on the roof of the existing structure. all attacks I've actually seen (which are very rare) come through that hole in the fence over there anyway (where fast travel defaults to unless you change it)

Bumping this, I'd like to know too.

Doge has always been my buddy but I've lately been tagging with Hancock who is pretty awesome, but I'd dread hanging out with Cait, Strong, Danse and Macready, who all seem like really boring characters.

Hancock and Valentine are probably the best so far. How to get their quests and perks?

you can gain influence in towns by doing stuff near them, but it would probably take a lot longer than just dragging them around for a few quests

for example, you can gain influence with Danse by getting into power armor or making mods near him

So my Brotherhood of Steel quest line isn't progressing. I did Semper Victa and now I just keep getting the same Cleanse the Commonwealth and collect tech quest. Am I screwed? I actually did this brotherhood quest before I met Paladin Danse, and he was surprised I had already done it.

for those nearing end game or having already chosen a spot, as someone who hasn't reached it yet, I have two questions:

1. Does the game tell you 'doing this mission for
this faction
will lock out the others'?

2. How far is the decision of
which faction to go with
from the main story ending? I want to create a hard save to be able to do every side and get every trophy but if it's like "you gotta play for like 4 hours after that point, that seems like a pain.

When I craft stuff in town. Codsworth likes it..but he is my follower at the time. But its not just for exploring/questing.

There's a segment that I heard early on in sanctuary, before the minuteman themed music started playing alot for me, that reminded me very much of inception with the chord progression. That's when I had to look up the compose r and realized it was the guy from DA

1. Yes and no. Sometimes it will explicitly tell you and make you chose an option, other times it is glaringly obvious the objectives of the mission will lock you out.

2. If you are talking about Molecular Level you probably have a total of 7-8 Story Missions of varying length left. So 2-3 *hours* per faction. I did power through those missions without bothering to explore since I knew I'd be rolling back to a previous save.

For what it is worth I was able to create a save point at the mission Mass Fusion and still do all of the factions by rolling back to that one. Mass Fusion is 4-5 story missions away from Molecular Level. But I'd create a save point at Molecular Level just in case anyway. YMMV with how far you've taken each faction before getting to Mass Fusion. For instance I did all I could with all factions before having to progress the story and it worked out fine for me. If you haven't progressed a faction far enough its possible earlier missions that I had already completed could lock out.

Just quick questions, do I need to do a quest to get
Curie
? Will doing all these recon quests for BoS/Danse help me with anything?

To get Curie you need to do the quests inside the Vault 81. Take the tour with Austin (I acutally failed this and was OK), find the girl in the classrooms cat, and then do the story to help save Austin. Doing all the Recon missions with BoS/Danse are repeating and are akin to the Minutemen settlement quests and help defend this settlement, etc.

lol

Nick Loves it when you do nice shit in front of him. If you have any mission about rescuing folks there's a huge chance he'll like that. Also hacking computers.

I had a hard time getting Curie to max affection. Neither of them care for lockpicking which is like 90% of what I do in this game while exploring outside of murdering and looting junk. I haven't put points into hacking.

I think after Nick I'll take Codsworth and then the minutemen dude with me. Codsworth's perk I think is to do more damage against robots and the minuteman dude [percy or w/e the fuck] has a perk that makes you stronger with encounters that are 3+ enemies. Which is like most encounters.

is there a definitive "good" faction to join? Like, is there one that is clearly the good guys

One of the actual good points about Fallout 4's writing is that this time there's no actual "good" faction to join as everyone has their own beliefs you might or might not agree with.

Just play through all their missions and save before the final decision comes.

you wont get his quests until you go to the
memory den
during the story anyway

you can join them all. if you mean the final choice near the end, well we cant tell you how you feel about the story at that point now can we

can someone EXPLAIN why the fuck happiness doesn't increase after 79?

Sanctuary, when it's at 79 it goes down to 78 for no reason because everything is in order, when is at 78 or lower it goes back to 79.

Those are repeatable quests, they don't advance in any meaningful way. You have to advance the games main storyline to advance further into the BoS stuff

Not sure..mine is at 80%. I wonder if it has to do with things like trading shops/decorations etc.

Quick question about the end game!

Mass fusion is saying if I go there it will make me a permanent enemy of the Brotherhood, but doesnt meantion the Railroad (my intended final choice) so I assume the choice between Railroad and Institute comes later?

already did that. I dont even think he can join you until after you do that. I thought i had lost him until I went there and he was waiting.

what? hes the one that told me about it in my game lol. I had him long before that, and hes the one that suggests using
Kellogg's brain thingie
there. Also going there is what ultimately triggered his quest for me so /shrug

Think my game is bugged trying to craft some beds for the Sanctuary Quest even though I enough stuff my build and tag for search are greyed out.

Can avoid doing the whole settlement building part of Fallout 4 and still get by in the game? I don't mind doing it but I would rather explore the world then build consistently. Would I be missing out on anything worthwhile?

Yes, take Undercover Railroad as far as you can and it'll tell you to keep working with Father which includes the Mass Fusion mission. You'll be approached again after a certain mission to continue the RR missions.

yes its completely optional outside of some tutorial quests to teach you the basics

ok
my undercover raildroad quests has been saying keep working with father for ages, cheers!

If you don't like Travis on the radio. Do this:
Just go to his trailer and kill him. You also get a diamond city radio key... not sure what that does yet. He won't be on the radio any more and Sheng (that little kid by the purifier) will now and then advertise his water. Just to be clear though, apparently he gives quests, quests related to the radio and supposedly unlocks more songs and boosts his confidence. Any ways, if you really want to... do it, lmao.
