My issue with the Cell saga is the damn Cell Games. That ruined it for me. Couldn't stand that plot device. From Trunks arrival till Cell becomes perfect was great, but the entire concept of Cell kinda irks me.

Also Dr Gero was very underutilized. A creepy old man that kidnaps teenagers should have gotten more screen time and should have been a bigger threat. He's the real villian of the saga.

Well, Dr Gero was originally going to be the big bad, but toriyama's editors didn't like androids being an old man and a clown, so 17, 18, and 16 were introduced. The editors didn't like the idea of a couple of teenagers being threats, so Cell was created.

The Cell Games were my favorite part of that saga. Goku vs. Cell (one of the best fights of the series + Warp Kamehameha!), Z Fighters getting fucked up by Cell Jrs, Gohan going SSJ2 and fucking around with Cell, Goku's sacrifice, and then the Kamehameha tug of war to finally kill Cell...lots of great moments.

Something that's been bugging me lately: In Super they made a big deal out of the fact that the fight between Goku and Beerus was so dangerous it could destroy planets. I feel like that was a mistake since there's no way that's going to keep happening in future fights.

it was already addressed in the fight.

Goku was able to parry Beerus blows to stop the universe destroying shockwaves and then later on they handwaved it away by saying they were "brawling".(I have no idea how that changes anything but that's the excuse they came up with)

I think it was another case of lazy ass writing, but I guess the meaning was that rather than putting all their might into singular big punches, they were going for speed after that so no more universe waves (sigh)

But yeah, I think it's pretty dumb, once you go universe destroying levels there's not much room for expansion. Let alone how silly it is to jump from planet, maybe solar system busters, straight to the universe, not even star systems or something in between.

It would be cool if after universe 6, the time on earth has pass at a different speed, ala Interestellar. We would finally see Goten and Trunks grown up!

Future Trunks will come back. It's just a matter of time. He's been mentioned multiple times in RoF and has been the central focus in the video games. He's probably the 3rd or 4th most popular character in the series. Doubt they will sleep on him.

Actually the fact that he's a central focus in the video games precisely makes me think he won't come back any time soon in the anime. They don't want multiple versions of the same character from different continuities confusing people.

This episode was really close to the movie, yet again. There were basically only two completely new scenes and both were in the preview- Goku and Vegeta start to awaken SSJGSS (this is before the timeskip) and then Goten and Trunks meeting Jaco in order to introduce him to the viewer, but everything else was pretty much RoF.

Well,
Tagoma got a different punishment and survived though, but
they even kept the line comparing Tagoma to Zarbon and Dodoria (but I don't think Shisami was mentioned this time). They actually shortened the scenes where the group gathered to face Freeza's army, although I guess we'll get some stuff next episode, like the excuses for no Goten and Trunks.

It such a shame Toei extended BOG, which was pretty much already perfectly paced and then are just blowing through ROF when it really needed some time to expand on some stuff.

Toei really did this whole thing backwards.

I'd love to see future trunks come back. What a legend.
I feel like he'd have been the type to keep training and pushing himself simply because he wouldn't have the luxury of having Goku or any other fighters available to defend the earth. Until he makes some quarter saiyan babies at least

I wonder if the backlash to the drawn out pacing of those first 9 episodes influenced the direction for the RF arc at all.

Why convolute the story to bring back Future Trunks when you can fast forward time naturally to make Kid Trunks older? Just because he's a doofus at the End of Z doesn't mean he always has to be. Look at Saiyaman Gohan compared to Mystic Gohan. That happened pretty fast. In fact, seeing how this timeline's adult Trunks compares to the Future Trunks we know would be far more interesting. I imagine he'd be a lot more arrogant and condescending, like his father.

I just see pictures like this

And desperately want the answer to be yes

No damage can be undone with current Trunks. He's just not likeable. Would rather FT come and kill him to replace him. Also an older Gohan/FT would have a nice dynamic to them. Always wanted them to team up or something.

I don't see how any of you guys enjoy SSJ3. It looks so dumb to me. Like they had to de-evolve into missing links just to gain more power. I have never been a fan.

Future Trunks coming back would be dope

He could get an amazing re-introductory scene and then proceed to do nothing for the rest of his tenure in the series

He's my favorite character in the series by far, but c'mon y'all, you just know it'd inevitably happen again

Exactly. It would be totally believable for him to come back. His character isn't one to just kick back and "enjoy peace" in his time.

Things can stiop be drawn out for RoF - they just have less reason to extend the opening part of the film. They don't need to make the conxtext clear and introduce all the characters again.

The only thing that felt drawn out in the BoG saga to me was the fight. It was like five episodes long. That could still happen again.

Well, based on the episode summaries, we know that
Tagoma and Ginyu will be getting an extended fighting scene against Gohan and the others this time.

Trunks who never stops training, eventually reached SS2. Only for Babidi to come and using his minions (different from the ones we knew) to start causing havoc on the planet. Trunks defeats them all with minimal strife only to release Buu. Not being able to overcome Buu trained until he reached his most powerful form yet, SS3!

Trunks get his timeline's 16 as his buddy. Bumla through upgrades makes him stronger. Etc etc
