Xenoblade X Eurogamer Preview: Maybe 2015's Most Impressive Open World

Didn't The Valedictory Elegy from Baten Kaitos Origins make it into Smash? Maybe Namco technically owns Baten Kaitos, but I'm pretty relations are good enough that it wouldn't be a problem if Nintendo wanted to do something with it.

Speaking of Smash and Baten Kaitos, Milly would make a great Smash character (I know, it's almost certain to never happen). She has such a cool fighting style.

Regardless, Nintendo published Baten Kaitos Origins and they have a rather healthy relationship at the moment with Bandai Namco, so I don't see that being the issue for why there wouldn't be a third Baten Kaitos game.

I think the issue is -- sadly -- no one would buy it. :-(
Between Xenoblade fans (even if BK is very different) and the 3DS JRPG crowd, I think there's a possibility it could carve out on the niche on the NX if released at the right time (Origins came out at the worst possible time, especially for a long game). But yeah, it's a long shot.

I mean, it helps that Bamco was also the developer of Smash.

Might bite and get it even if i didnt get into the first one. Wondering, is it mandatory to have played the first one to follow this game?

For immersion's sake. Giving each character a place in the world.

I like it personally, it's the time switching that I'm kinda eh about.

I'd buy the immersion argument if it were consistent. The thing is, the game does have plenty of other "quality of life" features like fast travel.

Not at all!
But you should anyway because it's amazing.

Good to know. Thanks. I tried the first one, for some reasons i didnt get into it, maybe just didnt push enough, i dont know. But i really want to give this one a try, multiplayer game rpg can be cool imo.

And I'm glad it does.

Either way it's nice that the characters exist outside of the menu screen and cutscenes. I can see how it could get annoying, but there is a benefit to it imo.

Why not both? It doesn't seem like there's any reason for this to be a one or the other thing.

I don't know what's wrong with me but I'm glad the weekend is already over. At least I don't have time to think about this game while at job so time will pass quickly this way. :p

I feel like there should be some easily patchable fixes for the more unseemly parts of the game (like the character recruitment) that I can't believe haven't happened yet.

Yeah, it's too bad it probably won't happen considering the dev team has already moved on to their next project.

is the character thing the whole "you have to search them out in the city" issue?

cuz yeah, that's just dumb.

Yeah, every time you want to switch characters you need to find where they are in the city and talk to them. Every time. And there's no easy way in-game to even look that up, so you have to remember where they are every time. And since there are apparently a lot of characters, that can be problematic.

Is there a way to check your system storage to make sure all 4 download packs downloaded and installed? I can't figure out how to see the seperate packs but altogether they're 10GB. Is that right?

One of my coworkers mentioned that he wanted this the other day...unfortunately he doesn't have a Wii U. The game has been getting more and more press lately so its become a bit more visible.

I prefer the UK commercial so much more than the NA one. The game just speaks for itself.

Yeah, reminds me of the UK Splatoon commercial being closer to the JP one

I don't know what outfitter to join and am worried that I am going to sit at the screen for 30 minutes trying to decide... between that and the character creator it will probably take me 2 hours just to start the game :/

It doesn't really inform people of what the game is actually about, which is a commercial's job, course those are promos and aren't meant to be actual commercials.

tbh, this is me right now, I thought I had it down packed when they first showed this like a year ago, but now im not so sure.

What we need, obviously, is a Baten Kaitos + Origins HD remaster on NX to test the waters for a sequel. But perhaps that would prove difficult with the pre-rendered backgrounds. I'm fine with virtual console too... Anything.

Yeah, the lack of a central location where you can swap between all your party members is a bit ridiculous, particularly since there's so many of them.

Patch please.

That's why I'm going to buy the guide lol.

I get that, I was just going off my own preference. Had I not known a single thing about the game and heard the monologue several feet away from my TV, I probably wouldn't pay any attention. A similar comparison would be the NA commercials for Bayonetta 1 and 2, I prefer the first game's ad a lot more than the second for the same reason.
