I honestly just want to get the game just to take lot's of screenshots and walk around to admire the scenery... Not interested in the slightliest on finishing the game but I guess I would have to if I want to unlock those giant ass skells to have even better views of the scenery, hah.
I mean, I'm still playing through the witcher and while it's been a bit "eh" I'd still give it at least a 7 just for the amount of things it's bringing to the table.
I would think so, but some of them sound like you wouldn't be able to get points after acertain time:
Like if you plant all the Probes and discover all Locations...how can you boost the points?
EDIT: Just read the above Post, it makes sense now...
...but still, how can Pathfinders and Reclaimers win the day when they have planted all probes and discovers all locations? They won't get boosted points haha.
Yeah, that sounds like the IGN podcast. It's one opinion. Not gonna say its right or wrong, but Gamexplain basically says the opposite. Things like, "You'll never be bored exploring this world" and that it feels very much alive. And of course there are a bunch of other impressions like the eurogamer one the thread is titled after or the gamesradar one, "Holy crap. I've played a lot of open world games this year. Too many. But none have given me such an overwhelming urge to explore, to conquer a harsh, untamed land, to study its ecosystem and witness how the different species interact with one another."
Maybe at least wait until the reviews hit for more detailed impressions from more sources, and watch videos to see if the world looks interesting to you.
Yeah It could have been IGN, but also when I see/read previews no-one is seems to be saying the game is amazing and that they can't wait for it to come out. They basically say the world is huge, the game looks amazing but not a lot else.
Yeah I'm waiting for reviews. I have preordered a copy for a friend for christmas as I know he likes JRPGs but for me, I'm holding off for now.
One thing that bothers me in the videos is that the combat looks really, really boring. Jus standing there as your attacks happen. I prefer more dynamism in my combat.
that moviepilot review was terrible. it doesn't go into any sort of detail at all. there's tons to do apparently... so many quests... they can't tell you what any of them consist of though because it will make the review "exceedingly lengthy"
:/
every preview and review i've read of this game keep claiming it has more interesting things to do in its open world then the competition. how there is just so much content and so much fun stuff to do. but besides hunting monsters i've not seen or heard of any examples of it?

We'll have to see. All of the side content in the original game seemed generated by a computer. There was a lot of game in the original but not much of it was worth seeing.
I agree... I'm not going arguing this but there's a difference between what you said and flat out disrespect. Not everything is for everyone. Hell I personally didn't like the art direction but I wouldn't insult the work or the person.
We may or may not have a difference of opinion on this topic but this thread isn't about this topic.

The quests are almost entirely "collect x items" or "kill x monsters". However, the writing around them can be a little clever, at least in affinity missions. If you've played Xenoblade, you should have an idea of how the side quests work.
Pained me but I canceled the SE and got the regular. I get it release day now and save $25 that can go toward other games. Sure I'd love to have the artbook, but I don't need another usb drive, I have tons just lying around my room. I'd rather buy the full OST then just have a sampler of tracks.
Yeah it's been a while. Almost 3 freaking years since it was announced on that panic mode Nintendo Direct of "please understand we have no games on Wii U but they are coming even if they are still years away such as this one please take a look" and the Xenoblade X trailer appears. But now it's finally just a week away...
I am legitimately shocked that I've yet to see a single major spoiler about this game, even on websites infamous for that. I mean, it's been out for a while in Japan.
Still on track to finish the previous Xenoblade...I've managed to get a decent handle on the game after not touching it for a year + few months. I'm actually arguably better at it now than I was when I stopped. I don't even need a healer now because Melia is so based. Naked Dunban with multiple agility orbs summoned is cheat codes. Hopefully I can finish it off this weekend.
well that shit was dumb but 'whoever the fuck' is one of very few that actually seem to treat games journalism as journalism. Also he posts on gaf a lot
There are 4 quest types based on how much backstory/story/character development you get from them. One type is just basic fetch quest/hunting stuff that you use to get money/materials - you pick up a bunch at once and complete them by just exploring. This is equivalent to the generic NPC quests in the first game. There's no backstory/development; they're just there to help you earn some extra cash from doing things you're already doing anyways.
The second type you get from talking to named NPCs. These usually provide backstory and world and character development, equivalent to named NPC quests in the first game. These might have branching quest lines/different outcomes depending on what you choose to do (ie. Kill someone then and there or follow them around to the next location) and might unlock more things to do in the world (I think? Feel free to correct me on this)
The third type are Affinity quests that provide character development for your party members, like the Heart-to-Hearts of the first game. These have voiced cutscenes and completing them will net you special Arts from what I understand.
The fourth type are Story quests which need no explanation.
As for what you actually do in these quests, you have to look at it from what the game is capable of giving you gameplay wise. Every quest will likely involve some combination of fighting a battle, talking to a person, reaching a location, finding a material, examining an object because that is the basic gameplay of the game. Whether or not you'll enjoy the quests is entirely dependent on how much you enjoy seeing cool "vistas" in a meticulously designed world, how much you enjoy the battle system, how much you enjoy learning about the world and its inhabitants. Because if you already think that the world looks "empty" despite all the visually interesting geological, biological, and mechanical things that just beg to be examined more closely then you won't enjoy it when a quest asks you to look for a specific thing or go to a specific place. If you don't enjoy managing auto attacks and art cooldowns while trying to set up combos and moving around to maximize positional benefits, then you won't enjoy it when a quest asks you to go kill a specific thing. And if you hate reading and don't care about learning more about the world and the characters, then you won't enjoy it when, after returning from finding a specific thing or killing a specific monster, the only reward you get is some backstory and seeing the relationship between two NPCs improve on your affinity chart.
Now of course I haven't actually played the game so this is all based off of my experience with the first game and what I've gleaned from videos, impressions, the like so feel free to correct me if I'm totally off base here!
There definitely is. Don't know what country you are based in, so can't say for sure what versions are available to you, but there is a regular edition in Europe,
Asked my friend if I could borrow his WiiU for a couple of weeks to play XBX lol, unfortunately he declined. He's the only one of my friends who owns the console too.

Thanks.
I checked the french and german amazon and both don't allow to preorder the regular version so I was wondering if there even was a regular one. I guess there is.
So what was jGAF's beef with this game again? Just recall a lot of negativity earlier this year from them, directly counter to how impressions appear now.

There wasnt any negativity. Juss people wanted xenoblade 2 and what we got is something totally different. Only negativity i recall was that kotaku guy who said it was boring. juss for clicks.

They're pretty underwhelming, in my opinion. Their man effect is modifying how many division points you get for accomplishing specific things. While a Pathfinder might get a couple hundred points from planting a probe and just a few for killing stuff, Interceptors would get far more points for killing than exploring(to some extent).
The division points themselves go towards your BLADE Level. Each time you reach the required amount for the next level, you can go talk to Eleonora at the BLADE Concourse to raise the level of one of your affinity actions(bio/mech/searchorwhateveritisinEnglish). Those determine whether or not you can open a treasure box out in the world, as you won't be able to access one if your action level isn't the same or higher. The Mechanical skill is also required for planting probes. The max BLADE Level is 10, and the highest you can get each of those three actions to is 4
just from speaking to Eleonora. You can get them to 5 if you're good at riddles but that's not really related to the BLADE level, technically.
You also get some more options in the barracks thing with each level, like new emblems to put up or expanded room color options or more holofigure stands.
There's the salary/earnings thing too, that makes use of the online. The total division points amassed by each member of the divisions are collected and displayed at the console in the barracks. And at the end of each day, you're able to collect a reward at the console based on how well the division you're currently in did. Whichever division had the highest number of points gathered in a day gets to pick any of the eight rewards, which are mainly consumable battle items, some sellable thing, and skell insurance voucher tickets you can use in case you run out. The better rewards are only available to the higher ranking divisions for that day.
There's also some boosted thing that happens if your division...fills up the bar twice? Or something? I'm not really sure when it happens or what it does, but it's probably not very exciting...maybe it just gives you bonus points for the duration of the boost.
Wow, thank you so much! So, if I'm understanding correctly, you can't max out all of your affinity actions and that then requires some level of strategy?

No, you can max all of them, you just can't do it by raising your BLADE level alone. They actions all start at 1, and your character can gain up to 9 BLADE levels to reach the max of 10, so each of those levels spread across the actions(1+3, 1+3, 1+3) gets them to 4.
Then there's some seeeecret stuff you can do to get them to 5
