Xenoblade X Eurogamer Preview: Maybe 2015's Most Impressive Open World

Gifs from the trailer. Tried to keep them to areas most of us who've kept up with trailers have seen already.

Emailed amazon to see if I could get it applied to my order. I ordered the book when I still had my trial for Amazon Prime and don't want to lose the free two day shipping. The book was already discounted to $22 but the extra discount would be nice.

Manged to get it applied a few hours later. Nice!

They should have went with a set character with a personality in my opinion.
Since I don't really know the story of the game yet, I can't comment on how detrimental their design decision was. I think silent protagonists and customizable characters can be done while still being the main character in the story, but it's interesting how their story changed to fit in a blank slate. I can't really say if I prefer it this way or not until I beat the game.

I mean, personally, I really like customizing my character. I spent over an hour in character creators before (seriously I'm hooked on Blade and Soul). I just hope the story doesn't suffer because of it, and I would have liked to be the main character as well.

I mean that's just a huge tattoo. It's nice, but I can't really change how a preset face looks, can I? I can't make the eyes bigger or raise the eyebrows or any of that, right?

I know what you mean, I just like the kookiness.

I didn't even know there was character customization so I'll take it but it's not going to be even close to games like Fallout 4.

This guy is indeed the guy from the reveal trailer, it's just that the faces are more polished now and the hair color is different. You can tell primarily from the split ends it's the same hair due. You can change the hair color yourself to make it look more like the trailer guy.

Yeah, I did something similar and found the same result:

for clarity this is default male face with Haircut #2.

I doubt they would include, mostly because it's not their IP unfortunately...
Btw a tip so you can avoid spoilers, dont google image
Elma and KOSMOS or Xenoblade X and KOSMOS
, or else you will be spoiled HARD.

Way to make a person paranoid.
"Don't google image" *puts spoiler tag around what you shouldn't look for*
You know what that means? No google images searches at all for me until I beat X! j/k

This one is great.

Yeah that one really stood out. The giant flying thing in the distance along with the giant crystal spike and the aurora borealis just make it magical.

Also I can't believe I never noticed how the reveal trailer guy and the default make avatar are basically the same aside from hair colour (and hair shininess that they added). It does make me wonder who the black haired player character we saw in all the early trailers was supposed to be.

I will probably just go with default everything and leave his name as Cross

Customizing a character adds nothing to me

I really loved shulk, so I was bumped out too about the customizable character. However, I've heard chuggaconroy say that he had the same feel but that it works rather well. He says the blank character, and the story are better than he expected. And so, I hope they can pull off both, give the customizable character to those that care, and still give us a great story that is not hold back because of it

For reference, I love Zelda and Link is a silent protagonist, his facial expressions is done really well to convey something (chugga DID mention to keep his face visible or you will lose some of that).I also think fire emblem awakening did a great job at a customizable character

We will see I guess

Regardless, I cannot wait for this

Anytime a character in a game or movie leaps from a great height and the camera follows, I feel butterflies in my stomach. Like that one gif above. Ugh. I mean it's cool but ugh. My stomach.

So I'm thinking we're going to get a Survival Guide detailing online either late in December/early January or just bunched in next month with FrontierNav and companies. Personally I want them to go over everything so I hope it's not the latter.

If we don't get online details and you're eager to get into all that, I noticed a write-up that details quite a bit over on the Xenoblade subreddit.

I love that feeling so much. Close your eyes when you are gona juymp from a really tall cliff ;)

Have you tried sipping on ginger ale/ginger tablets for motion sickness? It helps my friend with hers.

Noooooo >.<

that helps? Didn't know that. Looks like I'll need to buy some when I play this
Ginger helps settle an upset stomach. Another option are ginger hard candies, you can just pop one when you start feeling nauseous, and hopefully it'll help.

Make sure it's real ginger though, not just ginger flavoring.

I can't wait to jump off the highest cliffs I can find and just roll out the fall like a champ. Every cliff that can be jumped will be jumped.

I was thinking of going back and playing XC but I was worried it'd burn me out. Gonna have to rely on Tales of Zestiria to get me through the next week

I was playing Xenoblade all summer but stopped in August because of a trip. Then MGSV released, and it wasn't until this week that I 100%'d that game, so I realized I had to finish what I started with XC so I sat down and finished the last bit.

Please, tell us your experience

Filled with wonder and exploration.

This June-July I spent days just playing the game non stop. Generally really enjoyed the game, my only complaints is that enemies and bosses are unreasonably hard 3/4 levels lower than yourself. I found myself having to grind a bit for levels when I hit the 70's.

10/10 in my books.

Oh for like 60% of the game I was Shulk, Reyn, and Sharla. Then went to Tank n' Spank with Shulk, Reyn, and Dunban for 30% of the game. The other 10% involved Melia and Riki. Hardly ever used Seven.

Awesome, the crazy thing about that is the experts usually are taking down monsters like 20+ levels above them because they know how the game works in and out, you can especially see this with the super bosses(go to the mechonis hand if you ever play the game again, or if you still have a save file before the point of no return but after
the mechonis is destroyed and meyneth dies)
and you'll see what a super boss is haha

Oh I'm no stranger to seeing Super Bosses around, I saved my completed save to a new slot, so I still have my original save as well to mess around in.

But man I struggled a bit at that final fight until I found out the right team, had Shulk, Dunban (with a million agility up gems to take aggro and dodge hits), and Sharla to heal and basically everything was smooth sailing for that long fight. Seriously 600,000HP takes forever to burn through.

It's funny how many ways there are to play the first Xenoblade, I barely used Sharla, defeated the final boss super quick. My big hurdle was
Lorinthia

Seven was a powerhouse for me.

My team gets crushed so fast without her, and the
Lorinthia
fight wasn't that bad for me, Melia really came in handy there.

This might be a dumb question but does anyone know how well the game/tutorials explain the battle system? That's always my problem with JRPGs unless they're pokemon-basic.

So I went ahead and preordered from Best Buy with GCU (it was given to me...which was great). However, I thought release date shipping was free? They're charging $11.99 for release date shipping and that would bring the total back to $60 (it's $48 normally). So sadly, I have to wait until December 7th to play...

I think it depends on how late you pre order games. I ordered Tomb Raider on the release week and it would have cost me money to get it on release day. I opted for the free shipping which came a few days later.

I think 2 weeks or earlier you should get free shipping on release day.

Does anyone know if the Wii U special pack with the game has the data packs already installed? I currently don't have access to unlimited internet, so that would make it an insta-buy.

The data packs exist because the game as is literally fills the entire wii u disc. In other words, with the data packs, it's too big to fit on the disc. So no. That said, from what I've heard the game is still very playable without, you'll just get worse pop in and slightly longer load times (which only really matters when fast traveling)

I was refering to the Wii U Console + Game special pack. This one. It says preinstalled in the title (what would suggest a digital copy), but it show the game is included physicaly. Now, what is true? Or is the physical game with the data packs preinstalled?
