Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

$750 for a small message in the credits seems kinda steep, but I guess they can only allot so much space in the credits due to the massive list of names they will get.

If I could afford it I'd be dedicating it to my mother anyways, I was really looking forward to playing this game with her. A shame that won't happen now.

Has anything been done about the 18 character limit for names or does it remain the same?

The 18 character limit kinda sucks.

I always like to include my middle initial but I would need one more character for the period after the G. Without the period it just looks odd.

Guess I'm going just first and last.

Can they be upgraded later or is that it? Been holding back on filling out the survey for that reason.

Is there a deadline to fill the survey? I havent done it yet. I dont think ill be living in the same place when this releases so I need to ask a family member if I can use their address.

I'd like to know this too. Well, more for wanting to upgrade to a higher pledge, but I don't have the funds on me at the moment.

Did any CV ever have dual-wielding? I've played a lot of games in the series, but definitely not all of them. Just occurred to me you could do a lot of neat stuff with a whip in your left hand, sword in the right. Swing and strike at the same time while airborne, pull enemies towards you sub-zero style and impale them om on your sword, decapitate with a combo, etc.

Symphony of the Night let you put different weapons in each hand if you wanted to.

Also I think you meant pull them in Scorpion style, not Sub Zero.

The only dual-wielding was that you can equip weapons to different buttons if they game allowed it, like Order of Ecclesia, Symphony of the Night, or Dawn of Sorrow.

It's not really as complicated as you are arguing, though. You get the same effect by pausing the game and switching weapons. :P

Ecclesia was all about dual wielding since you're supposed to actually use each hand in succession for quicker strikes and you had special attacks depending on which two glyphs you had equipped

I didn't follow the thread recently, are there new in-game assets/screenshots/videos? I remember an early prototype video but nothing else.

Disappointing if you ask me but the important thing is that the development goes on.

Thanks ;)

Yeah, I'd definitely like to see more footage, but on the other hand I think if they show it too early that's more of a problem than making us wait so I kind of figure that's why we haven't seen anything on that end.

In the grand scheme of things time passes quickly and in the end we'll have the game in our hands before we know it. In the meantime playing the waiting game sucks though.

Yes, but the way Rei was asking seemed more as if you can chain weapons into fancy combos, which sounds more like Devil May Cry than what Order of Ecclesia had.

Most glyphs in OoE were designed that you mere equip them in both arms, so you can attack really quickly.

Ah Scorpion. It's been something like 20 years since I last played a Mortal Kombat ;). Anyway, I've plated SOTN, OoE, the other DS games, but I was wondering if there was ever a 'vania that really combined whip and sword i.e unique moves/combos depending on having both available. Then again, the whip action took a bit of a backseat ever since the SNES days.

Yeah there's nothing like that in any of the games with that sort of interaction.

And yeah whips became a lot less common in the series post SoTN for main characters at least.

Does anyone happen to know how long we have to fill out the survey? I was kind of thinking I'd upgrade to the $300 tier, but I'm not entirely sure yet. In-decisiveness is such an evil thing. :/

We currently don’t have a specific deadline set for when your survey information needs to be finalized, but it probably won’t be for a while (at least not until the end of the year). We also currently don’t have a specific time-frame available for how long certain upgrades or add-ons will be available.

Anyone else at the $750 credits tier? I noticed there was no place for a credits message in the survey, just our name.

Am I missing something or does that happen later?

We'll be emailing each eligible backer regarding their custom in-game items/text/portraits/dogs/etc. (likely within the next few weeks). Thank you very much for your patience!

I’m still waiting to hear back from the rest of the team regarding the 18 character limit. We (Fangamer) were told to set the survey to have an 18 character limit as a technical restriction, so I'm not sure if we'd be able to change it. I'll let you know once I hear back from them, and thank you for your patience!

Ok i found the survey but what is a credit clan?

Choosing a Credits Clan will affect which header your name appears under during the game’s credits. For example, if you chose “Mega 64” as your credits clan, your name will appear under the Mega 64 header, along with everyone else who picked Mega 64. If you do not choose a clan, your name will be placed under a more general header, along with everyone else who didn’t pick a clan.

Is there a deadline to fill the survey? I havent done it yet. I dont think ill be living in the same place when this releases so I need to ask a family member if I can use their address.

There isn't a specific deadline yet, but once you fill out your survey, you’ll actually be able to update your shipping address whenever you’d like. You can also email orders@fangamer.com and we can update it for you, and we’ll also send you an address verification reminder email a few days before we ship anything.

I did the survey but didn't see any option for a clan input?

Choosing a Credits Clan (putting your name in the credits) is only available for the $100+ tiers. If you need technical support with your survey, please email orders@fangamer.com.

Awesome, great stuff. Thanks for the response!

I'll give it a bit more thought before I fill it out, need to budget things a bit more first.

When this game gets officially released will there be physical copies in stores, or are the physical copies only for the backers? Is the Limited Edition only for the backers?

I realize this isn't exactly a Metroidvania, but we're running our Indivisible crowdfunding campaign right now, and we've even got a playable Windows prototype you can try out.

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/indivisible-an-rpg-by-lab-zero-and-505-games/x/2363858#/

Download the prototype here:
http://www.labzerogames.com/indivisible-prototype_win.zip

The gameplay is mostly inspired by Valkyrie Profile, but we're building on it with Metroid-like progression and abilities.

For that amount of money, you should go to kickstarter instead.
Indigogo isn't popular/generous with big budget games or even with indies in general.

A podcast dedicated to Bloodstained and its community has sprung up. Episode 1 is an interview with Dan Moore of Fangamer and Episode 2 is an interview with Ben Judd. Both episodes talk about the game and other relevant topics and both are about 90 minutes (give or take). If you've got the time, check them out.

October Update is Live!

Highlights

  • Credit Name limit has been lengthened to 26 characters. So that person who lost their mother (my condolences) should be able to fit her name
  • Credits Clans will each get a code for a cosmetic item in the game. Codes are free to all so be on the look out for all 18 of them!
  • Shout-out to the podcast I mentioned last post
  • Fill out your backer survey (you can change things later)
  • Lots of sweet new background art. Shader discussion and some in-game screens/video should happen next month!
  • A classic level design planner IGA has worked with in the past has joined the project!
  • IGA thinks Indivisible is super cool and that you should back it!

Hey folks,

Just a quick update, the character limit for putting your name in the credits has been increased to 26 (so that should help out OmegaDL50). If you've backed the project at a $100+ tier, you can follow your survey link and then click the "Change Your Survey Answers" link to update your information.

Thanks. Just got the email.

I was waiting to finish the survey since you said they were looking to increase character limit.

I prefer to always put my middle initial and now I can.

I wanted to express my thanks for character limit extension! I was able to finally submit my full name in the proper format after the adjustment.

Where do I go to change my survey? The update put a reminder that we can change it whenever, but didn't link it :P

Gonna change from PS4 to Vita, I've grown to really enjoy playing smaller games like this on my Vita and I'd like it on my shelf there.

Really good stuff here. Glad you were able to help him out, the more of IGA's old colleagues and CV vets he can bring on the better and I think it's really classy that you guys promote other indie projects. Indivisible could really use the help last I saw too. Hopefully they pull it off, I still need to pledge.

Go back to the original email from Fangamer that linked you to the survey. The survey links are individualized so it can't be linked here or in a backer update.

Sweet, thanks.

Changed to Vita, but something crossed my mind that I didn't think of the first time around.

They have Europe/Australia/PAL as a single option for your physical copy, which makes me a little worried that they'll include both the UK and German ratings on the box (like Nintendo usually does with limited editions), which will not look pretty on a Vita box.

Maybe I should just order an NA copy to be safe :p

In that case, I would be concerned about matching the region of the PSN account you have on your Vita. Mismatched regions will mean your account can't redeem any DLC, and it is possible even backer rewards could be delivered as a DLC code.

I need to do my survey.... But I have no idea if I will be in the US when the game comes out. Anyone know how easy it would be to change where the physical copy goes?

I am so happy that they are designing the castle before anything else, and figuring out what will go there later.

This is my favorite way to make maps. I think it gives the space much more character and identity that elevates the thrill of exploration. This is how GoldenEye and BioShock did their maps. If the level is fun and interesting to explore on their own, before you even add enemies, you've made something really special.

I can't wait to see this.

The third episode of the Bloodstained Community Podcast is up. Length is about 90 minutes and it's an interview with Matt Papa, PR Manager and Associate Producer at Inticreates. Talks about life in Japan, Inticreates and of course Bloodstained and current/near future developments.

Looking forward to the update! :D
