Xenoblade X Eurogamer Preview: Maybe 2015's Most Impressive Open World

I'm such a completionist that side quests can be a curse for me. It's my own fault. I'll really need to figure that out before this game, I'm a bit scared that main plot points are tied up to the side quests though

They are tied to more important side quest like you will have dialogue and you will see the story progress you don't have to complete every single collect-a-thon quest.

I myself think I will collect all I can while out adventuring, complete all story side quest and I'll just accept and instantly turn all the collectible quests when I have all the items needed. The method I'm aiming to do would probably works great for you as well.

Does anyone know a place that lists all the missions in the game? Are there any timed mission like in Xenoblade? I managed to get through that without missing any missions, and I'd like to do the same in this one.

It's finally less than a week away. Have some screenshots from the Japanese Miiverse:

This is the game that makes me wish the Wii U had a share button instead of going through Miiverse or the internet browser.

Also the removal of timed quests might be my favourite thing about this game. It might be possible to actually get 100% now without constant paranoia about locking yourself out of a quest.

I need to know more about NG+.

This really isn't a spoiler, but knowing how some people are, I'll go ahead and throw up the bars:
There is no NG+. Once you're done with the story, you're free to clean up any and every quest still incomplete and work towards getting the best equipment for your characters and being able to afford the highest-level Skells, which you'll need to take on the most difficult of the co-op bosses.

Just pre-ordered the physical version and forgot I had the discount from buying the original Xenoblade on the eShop - actually it was still cheaper.

Will the data packs to improve load times on the disc version be available to pre-load on the EU store?

Yes, they should be up Monday.

This is an awesome idea. I think I'll be PM'ing you as I go.
Thanks man

Oh ok, thanks!

I asked because I was planning to breeze through the story in my first play through and do all the extras in NG+.

the basic quests (from the quest board) are infinite.

so don't worry about doing them

also it's funny people thought I was serious about listening to ninjablade... lmao

This game should had been released before Black Friday :/ Nintendo just accept you dont have a quality mainstream game for the holidays this year (Mario Tennis?) and try to advertise what you have.

It's a little messy right now since I don't know most of the names of things in English, but I have all of the simple/normal/affinity quests in different sheets here. Not as useful if you're only worried about missing missable missions though :p

Well, it's not too bad if there are no missable quest, but it's always useful to have a list, so thanks.

Just watched the Lao English intro because I couldn't resist.

I don't remember him giving a last name in the Japanese version of that. Did the localization just give him a random last name and pronounced it wrong to boot? :/

Really wish BB had their $10 reward certificates for this rather than that Pizza e-cash offer. Oh well, the hype is still real and I hope this game scores well here in the West.

If I didn't know, I'd be certain that this shot was from a pre-rendered cutscene instead of real gameplay. Something about that shot just screams "cutscene".

I think it's the way the mech is on the left side of the screen. This doesn't seem to be the camera view of something that is controlled by a player.

I really loved how Shadow of the Colossus did that in-game

Honestly surprised it hasn't become more standard for horseback riding or whatever

Yeah, I think it's the framing of the shot like VivaciousSoul said. I saw in one of the GameXplain videos there's a lot of camera settings, like a slider on how far in the left, centre or right you want your character in the frame.

lol @ difficulty spike of Chapter 9

putting this game to sleep after 50 hours. Not sure I want to grind for that

edit: I think this has to do with the fact I only have
one Skell
. Not sure why other team members don't. This makes the fight impossible for me.

have a deluxe that is pretty full (not sure how much space, but have a few digital games and such)
what do you think is best solution?
*physical, delete anything if need any room for the data packs
*digital, really cleaning out the fridge to make it basically a xenobox
*digital, finding a HD this weekend/cyber monday etc..

You can also change the camera height, and there are settings for both characters and dolls. Setting the camera to player height and centered is good if you want to look around a bit in first person.

Are you using the O.C. Gear? Or give your team some dolls.

Does the game show trailers if you idle during the title screen? Imma want to avoid those.

It does, but no spoilers. The ship entering the atmosphere (in slow motion), fly through of NLA, the opening cutscenes and a fly through of the first continent.

Are you complaining about pizza? Lol
Give me pizza for every pre order and I'll be happy.

Someone earlier asked about if there's an attract mode trailer? There is but it seems to be just camera panning around the different environments so no story spoilers, just more pretty scenery.

EDIT: Actually only watch for 10 minutes. It's not major story spoilers but it's some places you might not want to see early.

Thanks. I don't want to see even another blade of grass until I'm in Primordia. I've still barely seen anything outside of the 2013 reveal trailer and that 2 minute battle footage from a Nintendo Direct long ago. Discovering the world for the first time is a huge part of Xenoblade.

And yet I'm still browsing Twitter for Xenoblade updates like it's spoiler russian roulette.

edit: I feel like the 8-4 podcast thread is stealing some of the OT's thunder with that title.

Guess we'll have to go with the runner up, Xenoblade X OT: Baked PoTatsu

Same here!

I mean, I've watched all the official trailers, but I'm also avoiding other videos. I only hear the audio in video previews because, basically, I want to hear people praising the game.

Reviews hit on Monday. I'm so sure I'll love this game that I'll probably skip reading all reviews with a score below 8 ^_^

Not even sure how I'm supposed to. Game barely explains anything, which is frustrating at times.

You guys should really watch out though. I got some things spoiled during the Japanese launch and let me tell you, there are some pretty big story moments you do not want to get spoiled at all costs.

I mean, I just randomly read what the ending of Fallout 4 was a while ago while I wasn't even looking for anything Fallout related, the internet has become a minefield when it comes to these things. Of course Xenoblade might not get the attention a Fallout would, but I'm sure there are some douchebags out there that will try to spoil people purposefully so you can better be save then sorry these days.

Welp, guess I'm going to pick this up without managing to put a dent into Xenoblade 3ds.

What a brutal fucking year for open world stuff.

I second this!! XD
I need an easy way to spam my twitter, lol

I know that feeling only 22 hours into Xenoblade 3DS myself. Not that it's a bad game or anything, it's just so big. Having played metal gear and some of fallout as well, I'm hoping to just drop everything and just play X for a good while.

I just asked around on gamefaqs and they contradict this: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/701151-xenoblade-chronicles-x/72902445

Thanks.

My two Nintendo faves slaying the GameFAQs charts.

You two are living dangerously. Gamefaqs is not a safe haven, I repeat abort gamefaqs until you beat the game. People on their are dicks. They will ruin a game for you while smiling and unlike Gaf they won't be banned.

I speak from personal experience. They'll put spoilers in thread titles.

Man don't worry I'm dodging spoilers like

I remember when Persona 5 was still coming out 2015 and I was debating with myself which game I would have to tackle first lol.

Yeah it's been tough enough choosing between Xenoblade and Zelda this year hahahaha :(
