Xenoblade X Eurogamer Preview: Maybe 2015's Most Impressive Open World

Thanks, my gamepad's left stick has been damaged for a long time, and I haven't send it in cause it costs like $120 to repair.

My left stick was apparently damaged too, as a quick push to any direction would make my character walk for about three seconds. It was so bad that I bought a Pro Controller.

Then, a few days ago, some guy on the Internet told me to blow into the analog stick the same way we used to blow into our old videogame cartridges. I thought, "man, this is so stupid."

It worked.

Guys please tell me I'm crazy. I saw the customization video.

please tell me there isn't just ONE beard option in the game and like a million face tattoo options.

I like beards on my characters.

I called months ago, and that's what they told me it would cost to repair. People here told it me would be cheaper to buy a replacement stick and do it myself, but I am scared of messing something up lol.

It's super easy, really cheap to fix and there's multiple guides available that will show you how to do it too. Mine went out while playing Splatoon and it cost me about $10 to fix. For that cheap it's worth at least trying...

Nah, mine is way more damaged than that, it won't recognized any inputs done one the down direction, so basically making any game, but Mario Kart and Splatoon (and even here I have to turn the camera to move back) unplayable. That, or VC games where I can use the D-Pad. Really annoying. Was just thinking of getting a pro controller and use the gamepad as a screen forever lol

mmmh I guess I will try, worst that happens is that the left stick stops working for good, and I just get it replaced, or use the Gamepad + Pro Controller combo as initially planned.

The music is a little bit too amped up for shooting at a wall. Well the monster can hit you from behind cover I guess it makes sense your abilities goes through walls as well.

I guess this thread is as good as any to ask. Can anyone give me a rundown on how extensive online is? Most stuff I've Googled has pretty vague other than "online co-op". How much meat is on the bone if I were to convince a friend to get this.

You are given the option to use the online functionality, if you do, then you will be randomly assigned on a squad with 31 other players (you can also have the squad be formed with people on your friends list) The 32 players won't be playing directly together, but they will all be working towards the same quest objective goals (shown on the bottom right of the screen) stuff like kill an unique monster, collect materials, etc. While this is happening you can communicate with the other players through text, trade, gift them loot, etc.

Once the quest objectives are done, you will be put on a smaller group of 4 (not sure if you can select who from the 31 players to be placed with) where you can do actual co-op battles against super bosses. Every player controlling a party member and fighting the boss.

There's boss fight that you fight as an online group. That's all I know as well I don't know how extensive it is. I know it rewards something called Battle Ticket and you can redeem them for items in your single player game.

You can also ''loan'' your character to other people similar to Dragon Dogma.

My stick's up direction stops working properly sometimes (a real pain for Splatoon) but blowing into it really does fix it.

Can anyone confirm whether or not you can choose your party for the super boss? That's the biggest part for me.

So it seems like this game is getting a lot of good impressions in NA. I thought the Japanese response was lukewarm and that it wasn't as good as Xenoblade? I haven't played Xenoblade so I'm not sure what to think. Is this game comparable to another title (not Xenoblade)?

I suggest you read this, there is a ton of info.
In short, yes you can make sure all your friends are in the same squad with you and yes, you can choose which players from this squad to invite for the missions.

Nope, that was never the case. There was like one single mixed import review and some people went crazy over this.
A survey among the Japanese player base showed that most people really enjoyed the game.

Hmm, I thought I recalled our own import thread impressions not being so hot either, I thought I saw a lot of people going "yeah 40 hours in and I'm not really feeling it, meh"

This is good news actually because I've been on the fence but now I'm strongly leaning towards picking this game up

Ok now I have 1 week to decide which division to go in...
My choices looks to be one of these: Curators, Harriers, Prospector or Reclaimers.

Wow, the online stuff sounds pretty cool. Hope I manage to get rid of any problems I might have with my connection, really want to tackle on some bosses with other players.

That's great info on the online mode in the reddit thread. Sounds fun, and it's entirely up to you how much you want to focus on it. Cooperatively beating big bosses is a lot of fun. That's why Monhun is so popular.

Since some gaffers got the french CE already... Is the guide written in french?! I bought the CE from amazon.fr and am considering cancelling my preorder (no CEs left here, but I might be able to hunt one down on launch day).

I realise it's probably a dumb question, but even if I can read a bit of french a whole guide is out of my league, effort-wise at least.

Thanks!

even the one dude in the import thread who wrote the huge post about what he didn't like about it still said he'd give it an 8/10 iirc, it was always weird how these impressions slowly morphed into "the game is bad" on here.

Most of the people in the import thread and western streamers didn't know Japanese, lol.
Also for the ones who did know japanese, they expected Withcer 3 story telling/choice-consequences...
You've the same thing that happened with Fire Emblem fate import thread.

So imo, take it with a grain of salt and make your own opinion.
There're enough infos, screenshot, videos around to do that.

Question to all Xenoblade players. Would you recommend playing the first Xenoblade before diving into the Wii U version? I never go around to actually finishing the first game (but I did like it).

When playing the original. Would you recommend the Wii version or the new 3DS version?

I'd say playing the first game will give you a head start on understanding the systems in the second, but that's about it.

Go with the Wii version. It's prettier and has better controller options.

You two are living dangerously. Gamefaqs is not a safe haven, I repeat abort gamefaqs until you beat the game. People on their are dicks. They will ruin a game for you while smiling and unlike Gaf they won't be banned.

I speak from personal experience. They'll put spoilers in thread titles.
Yep from the previously mentioned usename spoilers to thread pairing like "Zelda is..." "...Sheik" (I consider this one a safe example as SSB spoiled it) Gamefaqs trolls find creative ways.

There also used to be that trick where you could edit thread titles and get people banned by say going onto a Final Fantasy VII board and asking "what number is this" and then changing the title to "how old are you".

Brand new Wii U and it keeps fucking disconnecting every couple of minutes, what a mess. Messing a bit with the router might have fixed it for now, but I'm def having second thoughts about going digital with XBX.. It's 20+ gb, right?

e: no wait, I'd still have to download 10gb lol. Whatever, digital it is, I'll just keep watch next to the console all day and reboot it every 10 minutes
Sounds like the Wi-Fi card on your Wii U is a piece of crap (seriously some people have signal problems when the Wii U is next to the router). Get a USB ethenet adapter for a stable connection would be my advice.

lol. It's like the worst reveal ever. It's immediately apparent who she is the first second she's on screen.
Regarding Wind Waker you should try the Italian version here as
Tetra is called Dazel instead.

Nope. No plot connections and since XB is long as heck, you run the risk of burning yourself on the gameplay, which would mean you probably wouldn't really enjoy XBX very much.

But play it later. It's a fun game.

e: also Wii version on Dolphin if your PC can handle it. It's pretty fucking amazing in HD.

This is probably a dumb question, but if I get one, can I plug the LAN adapter in one of the front USB ports? The SSD takes both of the back USB ports.

While we're talking gamepad repairs, the plastic on my screen has a small divot on it. I have no idea how it got there. Is there seriously no way to rectify that short of buying a new system? I've searched the internet and all the advice seems to be "put a cover on it and maybe you won't be able to see it."

EDIT: Nevermind, I found replacement parts online.

Wow, I just found out that Takahashi-san was the man behind that wonderful Final Fantasy VI opening sequence where magiteks march towards Narshe:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...the-man-behind-xenoblades-breathtaking-worlds

History seemed set to repeat with the Nintendo Wii's Xenoblade Chronicles. Midway through the project the team encountered a raft of difficulties and, realising they would miss the launch deadline, a deflated Takahashi met with Hitoshi Yamagami, the Nintendo producer who oversees RPG development, to suggest a list of deadline-aiding compromises. Yamagami rejected the plan and told the designer: "You've come this far. You should see it through to the end. I'll convince the others at the company."

Good Yamagami!

I'd give Takahashi as much time as he needs!

5 days... I hope I can stay away from the game during the most important xmas days next month. My family would not forgive me :-)

I'm getting the disc version but I want it ASAP so if I go to walmart at midnight will they have it?

I did that with Deus Ex HR a few years ago. Just hope you have a friendly person on that section, because it will likely still be in the shelve this today section, meaning the have to go back.
