Xenoblade Chronicles X - Review Thread

Okay hype has taken me. I haven't played a JRPG in ages. Over the years I've sort of floated over to the western RPG camp. Any tips or suggestions for a newcomer to the series?

You can give your party commands. Do so, it will make dealing with big groups of enemies way easier.

Here's my review from Attack of the Fanboy - 4.5/5. This game is easily one of my top games of 2015 without question.

Anyone gonna be playing this exclusively on the gamepad? Hope it's okay. Polygon's review makes it seem like it'll be a chore.

It actually works quite well but you will be switching back and forth a lot. You have to literally change back to hit a button to switch the game to the TV, even if you don't have one and then can view the map on the screen. Playing with a TV definitely makes it easier to manage, but you can definitely play just on the GamePad, as I did that some during my playthrough.

Don't bother, some of the more extreme nintendo fans tend to be very... Tight and like to turn on other nintendo fans such as myself.

Yeah, talking about "extreme judgement".

But it wasn't just one random neogaf user giving it middling reviews. The game came out and pretty much fizzled out even in sales. It's a mediocre game.

And trying to damage control this is either: 1. Extremely sad. or 2. You work for Monolith Soft or NoA and is again sad. I have the game preordered but come on knock it off.

Good to hear, thanks for the info.

Yeah, talking about "extreme judgement".

Nothing I said there was untrue. Middling reviews in Japan, poor sales, and it fizzled out to nothing. Looks like it is better received in the west which isn't surprising since its a western focused title.

Really excited for the game; review criticisms seem in line with what I expected based on my experience of Xenoblade's structure and from X's previews (less centralized plot, soundtrack maybe less catchy, more open world / sidequest-oriented, etc.)

That being said, I hope Japanese players have already set up some sort of Wiki / Google Docs spreadsheet for sidequests and NPCs, because even though Xenoblade didn't really benefit from a walkthrough, I thought a Wiki / spreadsheet was pretty essential for doing the sidequests and keeping track of where / when NPCs would show up and where certain loot could be farmed, etc.

Looking forward to the big time-suck starting this week...

Sterling likes it, so I'm a tad more optimistic about XBX now after not liking the sound of some of the stuff in the impressions I've read.

I was always on board for day one of course, but it's still good to hear praise from a reliable source all the same :)

Seriously, go read up the Fallout, Driveclub, The Order, the original Yoshi Wooly World thread was pretty bad with low scores, Halo MCC thread, Witcher thread, etc. All of those have some really bad posts with a large amount of them where they are constantly trying to discredit the reviewer, find any little point and try to make it seem like what they write is not right. This thread has been nowhere near that, even the Bayo 2 thread was bad about it with hating on Polygons review, but this thread has not even had that, and I've gone through alot of it.

Neogaf's own gaming media white knight galloping into action again I see.

You stated "It's a mediocre game" like it's a fact.

I like how GameXplain goes in depth with their review giving viewers a sense of why he feels the game deserves a chance.

10/10 for that review!

X sold about the same as Xenoblade did in Japan. So it likely sold within Nintendo's expectations for the region.

Imo, buy the guide so you when you will feel overwhelmed and seek for answer, the guide will be there for you.

The sales were not much worse than Xenoblade 1 despite being on a significantly smaller userbase. And the Japanese reviews werent poor. And it is hardly a mediocre game given those reviews and impressions. You are beyond exagerating.

it's...it's actually doing better than what i expected.
but all i want is biogamergirl review.

yep

you can have all the 9s and 10s and high metacritic rating you want, but all those are stop gaps for the true verdict.

games succeed or fail based on biogamergirl's opinion. I hope X has the providence needed

Stop with this BS lie of "middling" reviews.

You stated "It's a mediocre game" like it's a fact.
Based off the reviews we had at the time it could be considered a mediocre game. Now it seems its more of decent western focused title, things can change with more information.

Neither sold well though, which better explains why their 3ds title was canceled.

.

You were had, dude.

You need to learn from that dude that posted the gif after finding out Monolith was first party, that's how you handle being wrong.

Stop trolling, please.
What you're saying is FALSE
The game sold well in Japan.

Publication Score
Famitsu 34/40 (9/9/8/8)[39]

Japanese gaming publication Dengeki gave the game a positive review, referring to it as a masterpiece; they praised the gameplay, detailed world, story direction, and music, and said it has a "very high degree of perfection".[40] Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu gave Xenoblade Chronicles X a score of 34/40, with scores of 9, 9, 8 and 8 from the four reviewers;[39] they praised the gameplay, plot, large open world, and sense of freedom, but two of the reviewers criticized it for having an abundance of cutscenes.[41]

The game was the third best-selling game during its release week in Japan, selling around 85,000 copies.[42] During its second week and third week, it sold over 11,000 and 2,000 copies respectively.[43][44] In addition to its physical copies, the game garnered nearly 23,000 digital copies during May 2015. It was the most downloaded title in Japan for the month of May, largely surpassing other titles such as Minecraft, Bravely Second: End Layer, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.[45] As of June 2015, 110,000 physical copies had been sold.[46]

Go get some culture, please if Google isn't too hard for you to use.
And take Ninjablade with you.
Thanks.

which of them is yours, Mon Capitan?

The first one :p

I've also put this, previously:

Wiitalia: 9/10

"Xenoblade Chronicles X is a masterpiece for Japanese modern game development and one of the best Wii U games. An incredible open world game with very solid technology and a amazing art direction. The contents are even overwhelming, and this alongside a not-so-focused narrative pace, could scare some player. But book your travel to Mira: you'll never forget this journey!"

I'm looking forward to this part actually. That's something I really liked in the original Dragon Age and a lot of the old school RPG's I played.

Imo, buy the guide so you when you will feel overwhelmed and seek for answer, the guide will be there for you.

Hmm. That's probably not a bad Idea in this case. Thanks. :)

But the reviews and impressions in Japan were generally good from what I remember, just not as enthusiastic as the first Xenoblade. Not mediocre, for sure.

I'm pretty sure their 3DS project was never a real thing. If you're referring to that recruitment image with concept art, I want to say it was meant for recruiting artists or asset creators for supporting roles in other projects.

How have I not seen this gif yet??

On topic > Do I need to play the original Xenoblade in order to play X? I have Xenoblade Chronicles 3DS but I bought it without knowing I needed a new 3DSXL (have an "old" 3DSXL). I'm such a noob haha

No, the story is totally different and separated.

Hmm. That's probably not a bad Idea in this case. Thanks. :)

Yeah, there're a lot of systems to learn to get used (not hard though) to but like the reviewers said when you get it, it's just pure joy.

No. It's like Final Fantasy - completely new world and story, just some references to the previous game.
