This is the E3 PC "conference" from earlier this year. He had to run a 2 and a half hour show that was mostly focused on smaller session with devs with a handful of minor announcements throughout.

I'd add that I think it's more crucial that they get better writers. It's probably more important than the host, since most of the stage time is filled by non-host presenters who are relying on a good script to get laughs and energize the audience.

I actually enjoyed the show quite a bit. I think Geoff has done a hell of a job with it considering what he has to work with. The Iwata tribute was awesome and calling out Konami was great as well. Little moments like that help to really elevate the show for me. The Greg Miller speech was cool and I like him. He had me with him until the very end until he said we're in their debt forever or something like that. I thought that was a bit much. lol. I thought the camera work was better this year and the music acts were better as well. The battlefront plugs were kind of weird but I guess you gotta do what you can to fund the show. I just wish the interviews that went along with it weren't so awkward. That's something they can work on for next year. Film them in advance if you have to and play them before going into a break or something.

The one thing that kind of bothers me about the show is that I feel like, especially with the likely budget concerns he must have and wanting to get premieres on the show in the future, that they probably feel like they need to pander to each system a bit. You can certainly make an argument for Ori getting best art direction but part of me feels like they wanted to throw Microsoft a bone so they wouldn't be unhappy.

Another mini gripe I have is seeing Witcher 3 winning best roleplaying game over Fallout 4 and Bloodborne (which is perfectly fine) but then it gets matched up against those same two titles for GOTY. If Fallout 4 and Bloodborne aren't even considered the best RPG over Witcher 3, how could they possibly be GOTY over it? So it just felt like it was Witcher 3 vs MGS V which was kind of silly. Maybe it's just me, though.

And I think it's a bit of a shame that Bloodborne didn't win anything. I thought it should've had best art direction but I can respect the Ori decision. Maybe I shouldn't feel as suspicious as I do over that, haha. I don't mind seeing some big titles walking away without winning anything, even if it's a game like Fallout 4 that deserves something. Because it would just drag the show down if they threw in a handful of meaningless categories just to give everyone an award. It would sort of cheapen things a bit if they did that. If that makes any sense. But those are just a few of my random thoughts. I'm glad gaming has something like this and I'm looking forward to the show next year. I feel like it improved over last year's so I'm excited to see if that improvement continues.

On the other hand, Splatoon taking 2 awards is delicious, specially beating the other shooters!

They pretty much shoved Undertale under the rug. They spoke on it for like 2 seconds pre-show and then never acknowledged it since besides very briefly mentioning it for best indie. The other category it was nominated in, best rpg, they didn't even discuss/show the noms. Just "oh, btw, the game that won goty also won rpg of the year, thanks for playing, here's deadmau5".

Really? No one on any of the sites besides coming soon.net just now knew what best shooter was and there was a bunch of people asking about it. I'm pretty sure it was never mentioned out loud throughout the whole course of the awards show. Maybe a tweet hidden somewhere or something.
