PlayStation Experience 2015 Thread: The Year of Dreams

Bad show. Sony really damaged VR for me. The only actual live demo was janky as fuck.

They damaged VR for you because your primary source of information for new technologies is stage demos of stuff that is explicitly meant to be experience in person? Seems legit

Why?
Either it's coming, or it was a dick move.

Fuck, people here are hard to please. They should have just saved the FF7 gameplay till the end, and kept everything else the same. Reactions would be completely reversed

These threads are a generally a race to see who can be the most miserably cynical and hyperbolic. I wouldn't read much into it.

You'd think they would have shown the witness.

It's a ps4 console exclusive coming out at the end of Jan, PSX would have been a great place to remind people that it exists.

I wasn't expecting much, this is no E3 but FFVIIR and Ni no Kuni 2 both exceeded my expectations so I'm quite happy.

Oh, and now I'm convinced VR will disappoint and tank. This is so much more limited than what people are expecting. MS is the smart one here.

Most of the Indies were horrible besides a select few . I'm personally not interested in VR and that segment bored me to tears.

My main gripe with the show is that not one fucking First Party title was shown. Like holy shit Sony?

The fucking Crash tease.
Where was Sony Bend?
Where was Sucker Punch?
Where was the AAA game from Santa Monica?
3/10. Only for FF7 gameplay, Ni-oh, U4 and Ni No Kuni Reveal. Other then that, This was incredibly disappointing.

Thought it was pretty good. People are ripping on the VR section but I thought the games looked hilarious and something that would be fun to play with friends/family that aren't into gaming.

Some people here are really hard to please. The cynicism in this thread is hilarious.

A few goodies there but overall it was a very boring show. Can't believe they started with FF7:R and ended with a MOBA CG movie. And VR is really going to be a new Destiny isn't it? Hogging loads of time out of these shows.

If they didn't have a second huge bombshell, why didn't they just save the FF remake footage till last? This is basic psychology that Apple has perfected. Save the best for last! Let them leave on a high note, EXCITED for your product.

It makes NO SENSE AND THEY SHOULD KNOW BETTER. People get paid lots of money to decide these things and they completely dropped the ball.

What the fuck... It's astonishing.

Unless they actually thought Paragon was worthy of that last spot? Which then tells me they don't know their audience... because no one cares about some random fucking MOBA.

This isn't a comment on the quality of the show. Just on why they would position the conference like they did.

Damn, they showed a shit ton of games at this conference. Love how passionate they are about indie games.

A lot of what they showed looked really cool too.

They cannot be for real.....Santa Monica could have been working on God of War 4, yet we get this amazingly fun Zombie game for VR?

Overall i thought the show was very well done in how it was presented. It was very gamers centric and totally not in a business way. Just expected a lot more holy shit moments. Especially after the Sony guy said...''when we begin the show like that...imagine what the rest of the show will be like..''

Yeah.....yeah indeed.

An alright conference, felt more laidback than the other ones, which was a, for me, pleasant change of pace.

That ending though, talk about coming out of nowhere and ending on a third party moba.. Like seriously? that just felt so weird.. Little they could have done to make that ending feel more awkward..

Yeah the conference was fine and there was good stuff at the beginning and scattered throughout, but jesus, what a shitty ending. Could not care less about fucking MOBAs, where were all the first-party IPs?

Well that was fucking terrible. Should have stopped watching after FF7.

No Rime
No Witness
No No Mans Sky
No The Last Guardian
No Horizon Zero Dawn
No Dreams
No Detroit
No Sony Santa Monica
No Sony Bend

Way to showcase your 2016 lineup. Sure am excited for 2016 year of the mobile games though after watching this.

Sony's 2016 lineup has been showcased so many times.

Ratchet
Last Guardian
Uncharted
Street Fighter V
No Man's Sky

2016 is just fine

Good show. I posted my predictions in the previous thread and outside of going with Uncharted to open again and not Horizon, I think I was almost beat for beat on point. If you watched last year's show, and thought logically about this eyars show, it was very similar. Going into it with the right expectations, I thin k they showed a ton of great content coming to the platform, they managed to previous two big hardcore cheer moments (FFVII gameplay, Ni No Kuni 2) and they have pretty much all their WW studios stuff intact for a big E3 next year.

Not ever show can be E3, and I hope they don't take away form this that if they can't only put on a megaton show, they shouldn't bother. They showed all sorts of great games that I might browse right past on the store that now I'll be watching for, and have context for.

One huge fuck up was VR though. I expected date, price, and games like No Man's Sky, RIGS, GT. All announced stuff they could have extrapolated on and showed off VR features for and instead...well, not to be a sourpuss, but I was convinced, now I'm not. Those really aren't the experiences I'm in for. They're for someone, but I don't think it's me.

Layden just said on stream he wants to do the show every year, happy to hear that.

This show was better than last year's for me. None of the monumental reveals last year were for me - I've never been a FF fan for instance. All the Double Fine announcements, Rez in VR (guess I have to buy PSVR now), and Sparrow Racing (!!!) for Destiny have me extremely excited.

Oh and Ni-Oh looks incredible!

Highlights for me:

  • FF7 Remake Gameplay Footage: Nice to see they didn't stick with the archaic battle system of the PSOne FF games. Actually interested in this now.
  • Ratchet & Clank: Nice first impressions. Looks lovely, and the style and humour is right up my alley. Looking forward to seeing some more levels later on in the game.
  • Ni-No-Kuni 2: Wasn't a fan of the first game, but I'm willing to give Level 5 another chance. Looks gorgeous visually, looking forward to seeing how it turns out. A wait-and-see game for me at the moment.
  • Rez Infinite: Now that we've got confirmation it can be played normally on PS4 and without VR, I'll be playing and buying the everloving shit out of that again! Looking forward to seeing if they've added any new modes.

Everything else gets a big resounding "meh" from me though. The VR stuff was pretty boring due to not being able to showcase it properly, and most of the games seemed to "lolrandom" to me, and most of the game releases throughout didn't really stand out to me. Wish we would've got to see more of Nier: Automata to be honest.

Wow, I'm usually the one who doesn't expect much from conferences, but this was disappointing. What the hell happened? They opened great with Uncharted 4 then continued with a trailer of FF7 Remake, but after that it all went downhill. The ending, in particular, was pretty damn weak. And seriously, that Crash shirt got me so excited at first, but it turned out to be fucking nothing. By far the worst Sony conference this year.
I agree they blew their load too early but some of the indie games they showed are genuinely pretty good. There was one that gave me an Ico vibe and that's planned for VR. Rez VR is a great choice for the platform. Seeing Zan -- er, F.A.N.G was cool (really liked their personality), there was another indie game that gave me a Zelda meets Metroid feel. There was the other game that gave me a Virtual On meets Hot Shots Golf (Roundabout) feel I thought was cool, etc.

And we pretty much got confirmation a new Crash is on the way.

They could've better paced the conference and rearranged a lot of the announcements yeah, but people are being way too selective in saying there were only one or two worthwhile announcements. And when their picks are almost always the "expected" AAA announcements, then that's pretty sad for them.
