Yakuza 0 coming to the WEST - "PS4 Console Exclusive"

Doesn't PS Now let you stream PS3 games to PS4? If that's possible I don't see why they can't put PS3 games up on the store to play on PS4.

If you mean putting Yakuza 5 up on a Now type streaming service, they could and should do that. If you mean running Y5 natively on a PS4, that's not remotely the same.

Now can stream PS3 games to PS4 because it's basically running the games on a PS3 and outputting the video over the internet. Running them natively is next to impossible currently as the PS3 is a really unique piece of hardware. Emulating it would be a major task, and might even be impossible on the PS4 hardware. To get Y5 on PS4 natively, you'd basically have to remake the game.

We are all ambassadors for this series.

Yakuza 0 can be a turning point.

Let's not forget that and spread love about this series when we can. :)

It makes me very happy that in the last few
months, I have been able to sell off my Japanese/Korean copies of Yakuza 5, Dragon Quest VII, Dragon Quest
VIII, Sen no Kiseki, Sen no Kiseki II, and now Yakuza 0. My Japanese exclusive game collection is shrinking at a fantastically fast pace. I wish the best to the companies involved for making this possible.

I'm going to double dip the fuck out of Yakuza 0 if a Steam release really is a thing. Oh man I still cannot believe this shit.

Has anyone posted Sega's official press release about the game?

The Dragon’s Origins: What lies in a man’s past defines his future, and in this case, we learn a lot about what inspires Kiryu down the paths he takes in the rest of the Yakuza series. Plus, you don’t get to be called “Dragon” without being able to knock a few heads. Combat styles can be hot-swapped during fights for some of the most intense battles in the Yakuza series to date.

Embrace the Mad Dog: For the first time in a numbered game, long-time NPC Goro Majima is now playable. With his own fighting style, abilities, and his penchant for turning sleaze into profit, stepping into the role of Yakuza’s most eccentric character will provide some eye-opening insight.

The Decadence of the 1980s in Japan: Cash rules everything in the world of Yakuza 0, and in the game, there are a million ways to spend, make, or take money. From cash spilling out of the pockets of gang members you fight to Telephone Clubs, Disco Halls, or even Pocket Circuit car races, there are tons of ways to be a well-to-do gangster.

Possession is 9/10ths…: Yakuza 0 will get a physical release in the west! More details on the retail edition will come at a later date, but there will definitely be a physical release.

Someone should make another thread for this
:p

I forgot about Ishin. I want Ishin.

Give it now. Cmon, you know you want it.

But seriously, I guess they will try to bring Kiwami (Yakuza 1 remake) and Yakuza 6 eventually, but I wouldn't expect them until 2017. That is, if Y5 and Y0 aren't complete bombs. Y5, I think they won't expect much, but they do have a better chance in Y0 and, if it sells well, it should start closing the gap between japanese and american release.
Yeah, that's another thing. The series is still on shaky ground, but if it doesn't get enough sales, we won't see anything more at all. Yet I still don't feel confident in Sega following through with continued support.

the graphics do look like a pretty decent improvement over the Ps3 games, although I'm aware this is a crossgen title. Hopefully yakuza 6 and all the other Ps4 iterations here on out really take advantage of the hardware.

also. part of me feels like maybe they should've just kept the localization title consistent. "Like a Dragon" instead of "Yakuza"

Sega gave a lot of chances to the series, but they are a company and need sales. I guess that even if Y5 and Y0 do enough to, at least, break even, we will continue to see the series localized.

I've never played the Yakuza games is 0 a good place to start?

Yes. A great one to start.

Others would be Yakuza 4 or the first one.

We're only getting Yakuza 5 because Sony stepped in due to fan outcry after Sega had seemingly given up on the series in the West due to the continually poor (and continually dropping) sales. Hopefully these games don't lose too much money so Sony (and by extension Sega) will continue to see it as a valuable investment in building fan loyalty.

Not a crossgen title...

I imported Ishin. I don't speak Japanese lol

I picked up Kenzan when I was over in Japan. (Funny i'm going back next year and Ishin is on my shopping list).

But I haven't touched it cause well... backlog issues and all. I'd probably would have tried if they at least subtitled the cinematics, that would be a half ass job... but sitting through 10 min cinematics without understanding it doesn't excite me.

By the way what's PS4 Console Exclusive? That wording makes it sound like it could come to PC... (you know you want to Sony)

Yakuza: Dead Souls non-canon confirmed.

Pity. I don't know why...a zombieapocalypse and the resurrection of Ryuji sounded too logically to me. :/

God, this, Ni No Kuni 2, the FFVII trailer... Is it Christmas already? The calendar says it's only the 6th!

ED: I've just read it's not coming to Europe. Welp, Videogamesplus.ca it is!

Pretty excited for this.

Never played a Yakuza game so I'm not 100% sure what to expect, only heard vague similarities to Shenmue (which are some of the best games I've ever played). That alone has me pumped.

It's disappointing that the EU release is unconfirmed at present but I'm over the moon that Yakuza 0 is actually being localised. Can't wait :D

Try not to go into it with expectations of it be like Shenmue. Those comparisons largely come from the fact that it's developed by Sega and takes place in Japan. Yakuza is much more of an action game. It's also extremely goofy at times while Shenmue has a much more serious tone. Some of the side quests may remind you more of Shenmue since they slow things down a lot more, but the main storyline really isn't much like Shemue.

Quoting myself from another thread

Speaking as someone who deeply loves both series, Shenmue has more of an epic feeling to it. While there are moment of humor, the game treats itself seriously (as evidenced by the OST)

Yakuza, being set in (mostly) one location, feels smaller in scale and though it has moments of drama, the game's not afraid to go full-on farcical.

That can be off-putting to some.

Anyway, this went on longer than I intended. Hope Y5 does good.

If you want to get a pretty accurate idea of what these games are like take a look at this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkN9oru-qCQ from HyperBitHero. There are definitely some similarities with Shenmue, but it is still different.

Hopefully we are not waiting another year for this to drop. And Sega and SCEE work something out.

Played Y3 and liked it but never got around to 4. This seems like as good a chance as any to get back into it.

Do you have a PS3?

Why not try 4 or 5 (which is coming out in a couple of days)?

glad to see the shenmoo/yakuza distinctions made here, so as to properly set expectations

I'm feeling a whole lot better about Y6 chances :)

Let's make it happen guys.

yeah, feeling way better about this!

Im glad it is but I hope it doest take a whole year to arrive.

fuck, me too - honestly though, until we hear other wise, i'm gonna hope for Q3/4 of next year

Yakuza: Dead Souls non-canon confirmed.

I never played a Yakuza game, for obvious reasons. This is a prequel, right? So it would be a good jump-in point for a completely newbie like me
if finally it comes to PC

Time will tell, but yeah it is most definitely a good starting point. Do note though that the combat in prior games may feel a little off as this game makes the combat system more fluid and flexible.

I played the first one back when it came out on the ps2 and loved it, but haven't played any since. Excited for the ps4 release.

I recently found the second game at goodwill for $1, been meaning to fire it up on the ps2.
