I can't comment on Disney as I am under an NDA.

Wait... who or what is Disney?

Nobody knows. Legends of a D'sn'y have been passed from generation to generation for centuries, whole clans of archaeologists have destroyed them selves seeking forbidden knowledge.

The Mouse Holds Secrets Man Was Not Meant To Know.

I thought it was going to blow up on twitter. Hasn't yet, but people have definitely seen it. Bunch of people calling out Collider.

Oh wow!

I like it a lot.

Either way looks like a worthy successor to Palpatine. He has a sort of fragility to him while still being ghoulish.

I do hope though that if the rightside is 'closer' to the final design that they went for the charred effect seen on the leftside.

Agreed. Overall I kind of prefer the lefthand side regardless, but if they're going for old, I'd like to see the charring too. Might not make much sense, but it's Star Wars, Jake.

Wasn't Darth Krayt alive for like, 150 years or some shit? He wasn't too deformed. But he was fucked up from that Yuuzhan Vong armor.

they kind of jumped around on it. I mean even Lucas started with dark side corruption is effecting Palpatine. I mean in Episode 2 he turns Palpatine all sick looking and on the path to Palpatine as we know him.

Then suddenly shelved it for 3 and Palpatine is back to Happy old self. Of course probably had more to do with the need to Give Sam Jackson his "kick ass" moment.

The leftside has that sense of not only is the Darkside consuming him, it's also slowly burning him alive. Would go well with the whole ethos on pain making them stronger.

Really wonder what their angle will be for why this fellow was dormant in the OT and also why the Empire's military follows him now.
Was he doing a Voldemort "too weak for now" or was he puppeteering Palpatine, whispering in his ears?
Dunno how I would feel about it if he is just another unrelated old white dude with a lust for power.
Also: Always thought the military of the Empire followed Palpatine because he came out of the power structure of the Republic and he kept his wizardry and "other side" to only a few select folks like those weird hat dudes in ROTJ. And he also had programmed the initial Stormtrooper army to just follow him and him alone.

Snoke however looks like the military would have no reason to follow this guy other than him "clouding" their minds?

It is kind of cool that his robe is white. I totally expected another black robed, hooded figure.

And where are people hearing that he was "dominant during the OT"? I must have missed that. Edit: Oh, it said "dormant". That makes a lot more sense.

JJ going with that fuck the mace windu force lightning deforming excuse. Dark Side corruption does it.

Eh, we're just going back to the original EU explanation - Palpatine was using a "Force mask" the whole time and allowed it to slip so he could blame the Jedi for disfiguring him.

Yep, even the movie novels say that it was a mask. And the deformed one was his true face.

Snoke is going to be a pure Force Lightning motherfucker.

Hope so. Hope he has tricks we haven't even seen yet when it comes to those force magics.

Palpatine busting out the Force Lightning in RotJ was incredible to me as a kid. Completely changed how I thought about the force in a single instant. I'd like to feel that jolt of surprise again one day.

30 years have passed... could be he wasn't "force active" until after RotJ. though i get the feeling he's been around for awhile and they'll explain it away somehow.

they're bound to write themselves into some corners with a lot of characters that should've been acknowledged but weren't

Didn't they say he was ancient and around a thousand years old like Maz?

It'll probably be something simple like he just awoke (the Dark Side of the Force awakening) or was resurrected or something. Or he was just biding his time to take over on some distant planet and decided to strike after the Galactic Civil War.

So Snoke goes back to the OT?

He's been around, but we don't know in what capacity:

“Supreme Leader Snoke is quite an enigmatic character, and strangely vulnerable at the same time as being quite powerful,” Serkis says. “Obviously he has a huge agenda. He has suffered a lot of damage. As I said, there is a strange vulnerability to him, which belies his true agenda, I suppose.”

If Snoke is a “damaged” character, that raises the question: Did his wounds come from the clash between the Rebellion and the Empire, seen in the original Star Wars trilogy? Serkis hesitates here, but then says he believes Snoke was outside of that conflict.

“No, he’s a new character in this universe. It is very much a newly-introduced character,” Serkis says. “He’s aware of what’s gone on, in the respect that he has been around and is aware of prior events. I think it’d be fair to say that he is aware of the past to a great degree.”

One of Palpatines advisors would be brilliant. Was mostly established they were all dark siders themselves in old EU. Would also be an easy explanation as to how they were able to consolidate power within the Empires remnants being one of Palpatines inner circle.

But he even kept "the mask" when talking to the bad dudes as Sidious. What's up with that?

His words were "Ah, I will miss the face of Palpatine, but it has served it's purpose"

The face of a caring old man probably had more impact to seduce people to the cause and his deformed face might have show weakness. when the deformed one became useful,he exploited it.

Also Star Wars.

Lucas making things up as he went along basically.
I can accept this explanation.
Vanity. Palpatine was always petty about appearance. That actually crossed over into the new cannon in Tarkin if I recall correctly.

But I can also accept these explanations.

Why not both.

Correct me if I'm wrong because I haven't read the book, but in Aftermath don't some Imperial leaders retreat to a location in the Outer Rim because there's a bunch of Dark Side shit there? That could be where they find Snoke.

Maz said she saw Reys eyes in different people, if she is a Skywalker, that means she knew Anakin, Luke or maybe Shmi?

The new EU will get interesting if that's the case.

Rae Sloane, under orders of the mysterious "Fleet Admiral" (who a lot of people speculate is Thrawn), convokes a meeting of important Imperial figures on Akiva to figure out what to do after Endor. One of the attendees is Yupe Tashu, one of Palpatine's advisors, who constantly tells the other members that they need to search for the "wellspring of the Dark Side", which he believes is beyond the galaxy because (according to his claims) Palpatine felt that his powers "came" from there. Whether Tashu is correct or just nuts we don't really know, but the others all kind of dismiss him.

Ah, thanks. Wonder if they're trying to set something up there or if it's just brushed aside.
