Is there always this much drama in the Star Wars community?

The drama nearly always involves the same people.

Man, "Supreme Leader Snoke" is a really hideously bad name. Like, Darth Icky or Darth Insanius levels of bad. I am finding it really difficult to get past how much I hate that name.

It sounds real dumb. Like not threatening or mysterious at all but like it should go to some kid's toy or some Ewok. "Snoke" sounds like he'd be great friends with some wacky alien sidekick like Jar-Jar, not some successor to Palpatine.

After reading through some of the leaks and spoilers, I just can't get over how similar the plot seems to really just be aping A New Hope. You figure with Abrams and Disney they'd basically do that especially for the first movie in their trilogy but I can't get over just how much seems to be lifted from A New Hope. Han being the Obi-Wan mentor type that'll get killed off, yet another super weapon... just seems a bit heavy handed. Doesn't mean it won't be a fun movie but it seems a bit disappointing, if not unexpected.

The other thing I can see irking people is how the 3 mains from the OT- Han, Luke and Leia- basically don't have much screen time together, or at the very least, Luke is basically left sequel bait last scene of the movie. I know they didn't really technically have a ton of scenes all together in the OT but it seems like a bit of a cheat hyping this movie up so much on the fact that its kind of getting the band back together again, except we'll be killing off one band member before they reunite.

I'll just be curious to see how the whole universe post Return of the Jedi gets fleshed out. I only ever read the EU stuff mostly through the Thrawn trilogy and always liked the broad strokes there so I'll be curious to see how much they diverge or draw from that stuff.

I DM'ed him on Twitter and he said it wasn't the Snoke thing. It sounds like it was the drama of Disney abusing DMCA to shut down images of the Rey figure that Star Wars Action News bought at Walmart and then posted on Facebook.

If Disney is going to be so pissy about this stuff getting out, they really shouldn't let it ship so early.

If I was him I'd just accept a DMCA and move on. You take a pic down and theres no further action. It seems a strange thing to pull a site for.

Jason Ward is definitely salty about something. He was made aware of the DP call sheet leak and acknowledged it was similar to what they received, but never made reference to it on everything.

There's a personal history with Darth Psychotic that goes back about 10 years, and it's not all that pleasant, really. I'm not surprised he's just steering clear of having to comment on or acknowledge anything regarding him and MillenniumFalcon.

Huh. It read like it was the Snoke thing to me, but that's probably my own assumptions coming into play regarding the timing and such. You know what Sam Jackson says about Ass and Umptions.

But the idea that "Star Wars Unity" had pissed off multiple large entities that quickly is... I dunno. The whole thing is probably just basic overreaction. It's also probably not a bad idea that he just close up shop and unplug awhile, too. it's obviously not providing the level of fun & enjoyment it used to.

Wait he took it down...because of the Rey figure takedown request?

The figure was obviously breaking street date making it an illegal sale by the retailer. I get being annoyed with having to take it down, being allowed to put it back up, then having to take it down again. But that's just being over dramatic.

Well, yeah. But the retailer broke the street date, not the person who bought the figure. Corporations get so bent-out-of-shape when people learn secrets.

And to think, I though the drama would stop this close to the movie.

In my opinion, there is a rising issue of some Star Wars fans acting as if they are entitled. "We are entitled to have Luke be a major fixture, not just in there for 5 minutes"

It was really rough before all of this footage when they went silent in between April and September.

People were actively bitching because Disney "Doesn't know how to market star wars, and because we are fans We DESERVE to have more footage, etc, etc"

All this drama is stupid.

Okay? But it's still common practice for DCMA take down requests to happen when stuff like this gets posted on social media. So why would he get so upset about it? The snoke stuff I can sort of understand, but it just seems weird for it to be over the figure pictures.

It is, but at the same time, Disney tossing DMCA's around like candy doesn't help, either. They're alienating their biggest source of income by doing this. People who are excited and passionate about Star Wars and willing to spend money on all this shit that Disney is putting out at retail.

It could very well have been the accumulation of a number of things that got to him.

Vibe feels all salty in here, a day after the thread leaked one of the biggest fucking mysteries in the movie. Does this shit happen with Trekkies?

As far as Star Wars Unity, looks like it's gone for good:

Which brings me to Star Wars Unity. I put that site up around the 2nd of December as if I wasn’t going to focus on Furious Fanboys anymore (due to the change in ownership, pay, etc.) I wanted to have a new site I would be able to control. It went well, and got big very fast. But I learned last night that it angered some very large entities, which I never intended to do.
Due to those people being upset, and my being involved with Now This is Podcasting!, it caused some stress for my friend Jason. To avoid any problems for him, I told him I would step away from the podcast. Then to avoid any major problems for me I decided to delete Star Wars Unity and walk away from that sort of site.

That Star Wars drama. Nothing like it.

I'm certain the short presence of Luke will be one of this movies most discussed and criticized points. not sure I'd call it entitlement, though. personally, I am glad I got spoiled about that, I would probably have been excited to see him all the time and left the movie a bit disappointed about that.

Going theory is that they've got a somewhat automated process at play and for whatever reason it binged this picture (which isn't a leaked photo, or copyright infringement in any way) twice even after the process was actually interrupted by real human beings using their eyes and their brains to assess what was going on.

To quote one of the greatest philosophers of our time, "No. Not really, no."

Call sheet edits happen often throughout the production of a film like this that does principal filming for so long in so many locations. They also don't include pickup and reshoot stuff. So it's say to say these are likely earlier versions of call sheets.

There was no additional reshoots on this film. Once it wrapped principal that was it.

When they plaster Luke all over everything to do with Episode VIII fans will forgive for the lack of him in 7.

Do we know that for a fact? I thought reshoots were a guaranteed thing for a film like this. Typically they slot time specifically for them before and during the early parts of post production.

Disney uses an external company called Irdeto for this sort of thing. It's all automated and not controlled by anyone at Disney, but I can't imagine them liking being the subject of negative stories about them using DMCA to censor fan sites the week before a Star Wars movie comes out.

Right.
This DMCA conquest they are on right now is insane and I agree with you.
But at the same time, That figure is a major epic spoiler. So I can kinda understand why Disney is issuing DMCA's.

To be fair, they're not really selling that the band is back together - more like "Han & Chewie are here! Leia's around somewhere too."

And Han, Luke, and Leia are all onscreen together in what's widely considered the best Star Wars film, "The Empire Strikes Back," for just over 90 seconds.

But yeah, it's gonna be interesting to see if the lack of their coming together in any real hero moment ends up sticking out to viewers, or whether the story will flow organically enough that the realization of that fact is going to be more or less an afterthought, like "Huh. We never got that kind of Avengers-y thing with the team up, did we?"

I don't like the whole kylo was abducted plot. All the redemption points brought up would have lesser issues if kylo isn't a Skywalker. Imo he is better off being some war orphen rescued by SL.Snoke.

The Skywalker story ended with the OT, balance was brought back to the force, no need to retread the same old. You will only be turning the skywalker bloodline into a cursed story. Im afraid JJ is just TOO faithful to recreate the OT magic and goes about doing familiar things...

Right.

One site (may have Ars or Business Insider) did an article on it and they brought up the fact that it's actually against DMCA to make a false copyright claim. Ars had a guy from the EFF who said that while Disney does own the copyright on the image of the figure, as the picture was taken by a fan of something they bought (he even posted the Walmart receipt for proof) it falls under fair use and thus Disney can't claim copyright on the photo.

The sad fact here is that Disney can do whatever they want. They have all the money.

oh God, I heard that name mentioned in an article somewhere along with a couple others that were just as atrocious.

I think I remember reading a couple like it in this piece on that canceled Darth Maul game, where they went to Lucas for naming advice and the ones he gave them were just...

yeah.

If any of that meant anything to Kasdan and JJ, Han and Leia would be living together giving sweet kissies to their grand babies.

It sounds like its a massive Clusterfuck.

Source? I don't think that's confirmed at all.

David W. Collins and another game dev confirmed it on a twitch game-dev livestream/commentary of Force Unleashed within the last month. There was also an article recently (pre-dated the twitch stream) that said the same thing, but I can't recall it off the top of my head right now.

It was always kind of the story you had to really want to believe in order to run with it, because the common-sense reading of it sorta points you really strongly towards "he's fucking with these kids" anyway.

Hope Kylo doesn't get a redemption just make him a super awesome darkside user who beats down on Rey and Finn all day every day. If he does hope it's a small realization as he dies losing his shit like light from deathnote.

I'm a dark side fan. I hate the good guys. I have no desire for him to become good. I just think it's pointless character development to make him Han's son if his character development involves going from Dark Side Bad Guy to Dark Side Bad Guy. And I guarantee Adam Driver would hate that. I'm not saying he becomes a Jedi. I think he will become more Grey.

Well if he's a Skywalker, which it's looking like he is, there's gonna be that Light Side pull. He will somehow be redeemed in the end. I'd bank on it, especially with Disney.

But you have Snoke and KOR to look forward to, and whoever Benecio Del Toro's gonna play, etc. The Dark Side is going to be bad ass, even if Kylo is not involved.

I legitimately hope Jar Jar somehow makes his way into this movie.
I dont care how, I dont care why.
I just want to see the glorious internet meltdown.
