People will respond to this with a bunch of dumb options (and yes, they're all dumb). You wanna know why they're all dumb? Because they don't fit the bill of The Guy. Because the bill of The Guy is more than "face of the company", The Guy needs to be homegrown and molded entirely by them. They've been looking for a Cena replacement since they got Cena.

First it was going to be Batista, but then he kept getting hurt and then went into movies (turns out he was good enough he didn't need WWE anymore)
Then it was going to be Orton, but he kept getting hurt whenever he wasn't failing Wellness
Then it was going to be Brock, but he wanted to fail at football, then succeed at MMA (truth be told, this fucked over WWE so bad they're still not mentally recovered from it, and is believed by a lot to be the reason they've stuck with Cena as The Guy for so long)
It was never going to be Bryan, because he's not homegrown and molded entirely by them, but then he went and died so even the argument it could have been him is now done
Everybody else is indy scrubs, not homegrown and molded entirely by them, and thus don't count

Reigns has nothing else. Nobody else. He goes to New Japan, ROH, TNA, wherever, nobody's gonna succeed with him. He's not their magic new poster boy. WWE's his only prospect. He sure isn't succeeding with acting. He doesn't want to go anywhere else. And he's been mostly healthy. He's all theirs. He's perfect. Just like Cena minus the reality TV show he's now going to be gone annually with if it succeeds.
