I could probably name hundreds of movies where "coincidences" like in this movie or the Spock thing drive plots along. JJ Abrams doesn't have a monopoly on them. Get over yourself.
that pastebin.
if it's accurate why would the people who made starkiller repeat the same weakness that the first death star had? utterly stupid.

I love how people are complaining about dumb coincidences like the Falcon happens to be picked up by Han in his new freighter. These kinds of coincidences are crazy common in fantasy movies/books. I understand that people dislike the whole Spock in the cave thing, but it's not really different from anything else.
R2D2 happens to be purchased by Luke Skywalker, son of Anakin Skywalker and gets involved in the story? That's ridiculous. ANH is crap.
Luke crash-lands on Dagobah and happens to run into Yoda just a few feet away? ESB is crap.
Bilbo goes on an adventure and happens to find the One Ring in a random cave? Tolkien is a hack.

Anyway - that is just to offer some perspective because I seem to have riled up people who don't understand where I'm coming from.
He's the homage king, after all.WIth JJ (whom I don't hate) at the helm this was never gonna be more than decent fun.
Looks like the Collider Kids are embargoed until Wednesday, but did their reaction/review episode already.
How did this thread became so filled with vitriol and less with spoilers?

No, we understand you perfectly. You're high on confirmation bias and dismissing a movie you haven't even watched yet.
We get it.
It's pretty clear.
It's basically out there to read.
So is that pastebin post 100% accurate?
So is that pastebin post 100% accurate?
Probably.
I'll tell you myself in a few hours.
eh not 100%
some weird stuff that is not in there that should be obvious, like Poe showing up at Maz's castle. Weird how he missed that when its in the trailer even...
Probably.
I'll tell you myself in a few hours.
That dude sounds really bitter and cynical. Not gonna let him rain on my parade. Still no impressions on Leia + Carrie's performance?
Reading != watching.
Plot != movie
How'd you get this PhD, son?
I offered my opinion on the writing. I said Fuck JJ because the script (THE READING OF THE PLOT) is bad in my opinion.
Sorry for riling you up. Maybe learn to read posts?
Holy shit this thread turned heel like IMMEDIATELY
It sounds like Star Wars, what were you expecting
There is a difference between each of your examples.
People freaking out over a single reddit review in which the main criticism is that the movie doesn't explain enough.
Isn't it universally agreed that prequels focus on explanations and exposition hurt a lot of the ambiguity and mystery of Star Wars?
people don't even know what they want from this movie. smh.

With all the impressions coming out they really were not overselling the fact that Rian Johnson is getting a free pass in terms of story. Apart from the world building done this film he really gets to take the story to whatever place he want.
We've been known that some of the story beats are similar to the previous movies
No! No difference. Only in your mind!
Seriously though, this reeks of intellectualization to me. Sounds a lot more like, "I'm okay with those coincidences because I like those movies/plots." I haven't seen the movie though so I am a bit at a disadvantage. It very well could be handled really poorly.
Any word on if Finn is Force Sensitive yet?
