[SPOILERS] Star Wars: The Force Awakens - It's True. All of it.

I am concerned. The "comedic buddy" angle is being stated a lot. This is the last thing I wanted him to play.

Hopefully his arc feels more apparent when actually watching the movie.

I feel like what we've been told doesn't seem to match up at all with those book spoilers. I wonder if they are going to play loose and fast with his supposed "top 1 percent" background.

Ending up in a coma (I still can't believe this) means that, unless he wakes up off-screen between movies...he'll probably not have much growth between 7 and 8. I was at least hoping that he would have been working his way up in the resistance or something. If he DOES wake up off screen then...what was the point?

The trend of keeping characters inactive between movies, often completely, is possibly my biggest peeve when it comes to this series.
VII may have managed to beat carbonite when it comes to bizarre and pointless ways to keep characters from changing, if the sand rumors are true.

You'll know if he's cast in Ep VIII if he's lost weight. I mean, they start shooting very soon so that process would have started by now.

Not saying he needs to lose weight, but that's clearly the trend we have seen.

Doesn't Billy Dee Williams have mobility issues?

He was on Dancing with the Stars just last year, although he moved very gingerly.

He is also 78, so that door is just about closed. I can see him having a very small role or cameo, but that's about it.

Ford is 73, not such a enormous difference.

Physical ability makes all the difference. Back issues etc. make Billy Dee very limited. Its not impossible for him to try and strengthen up. I mean Peter Mayhew underwent all sorts of physical therapy and strengthening so he could be as best shape as he could to be Chewbacca again.

It would be great to see Williams back. He could perhaps be some Political figure in the Republic or something that leia still has contact with

If Christopher Lee can play a Sith at 82 then I'm sure Billy Dee can get a role playing a general of something along side Carrie in a Resistance command post.

I would imagine that even if Lando did make it back, he's not going to be needed for action stuff like Han was here. Make him an old businessman/politician, he'll not need to run around.

Heh well, to be fair. If the carbonite was meant to keep Han from changing, it didn't do a good job.

Honestly...I'm hoping that "coma" is just a misstatement. Maybe he's just knocked out or something and people are just saying coma colloquially. Very interested in seeing how that goodbye plays now, especially with rumored romance between the characters. The whole thing just sounds very odd to me right now.

Him being in a coma is the worst sort of injury as he's on ice between films. Unlike everybody else who is already more competent than him and undergoing training between films, he's just napping. That sorta implies he's not going to be that effective or important in Ep.8 either.

Edit:Unless there's like no time skip between movies and Ep.8 continues right after Ep.7.

Even if he is in a coma if Rey took him to Luke's location it's pretty easy to surmise they will somehow bring him out of it.

And not every coma lasts months. It could last like a week or less.

When Han was put into carbonite, he was already an established character in the sense he had a predefined set of skills and an established romance with Leia. Here he feels like Finn is sorta getting kneecapped.

Every Star Wars film has had a timeskip so far. There's nothing that says 8 has to take place years after 7 but there is a pattern.

So unless Finn wakes up offscreen, he's going to be out for awhile.

I also wonder whether they will deal with muscle loss due to him being in a coma too.

Finn is a former ST and clearly well trained and honestly they can go anywhere in these next few movies. I think it's too early to start speculating on that.

I'll wait until I see the movie. I see some people are upset Finn "seems" to be relegated to a "minor" role. I don't know. He seems to be involved in major plot points and he goes toe to toe with Ren. Even though he loses that doesn't matter. I fully believe after this movie his character will have some sort of "status" among fans who want more.

That dude actually said he misheard his friends.

The reddit guy always said that they separate.

He ends up in the resistance medical base.

Seems like there's considerable doubt that the pastebin was written by someone who actually saw the film though.

as I said myself a few pages back, it could have been written by someone who read the call sheet leak and added some stuff himself. at this point we can't know more.
we do not have official confirmation at this point, because there is still an embargo, so you won't find anyone who speaks openly about it and puts his name on it officially.

edit: however, press screenings have happened by now, that means tons of people have seen the movie all around the world.
if something big like han dying would be different than what the leaks suggested, I am sure we would have heard it by now

Would be worth it though if Ep.8 starts out like Metal Gear Solid or Walking Dead where Finn wakes up with the base under attack.

I find it odd that Finn would go with Rey. You'd think his character would be better suited sticking with Leia and the Resistance. A former storm trooper would be a big asset due to his knowledge about their tactics and training and such

How much do you wanna bet that Lando pops up in VIII and/or IX to heal Leia's broken heart?

If we do get to see Lando again, I would wager that he'll be pretty stationary over at whatever Resistance Base Leia is at during VIII.

I'm always shocked people don't understand how traditional saga's work.

I'm shocked that people want sagas to stick 100% to the traditional formula. God forbid characters should behave like actual people and not walking plot devices.

Eh, he got the first line of the movie right days before it came out. Also given that people at the premiere have said it basically lines up with the film I think it's real.

This franchise is about the Skywalkers and family drama. You can't do a saga film and not have it be that. And it will always be that.

Except there's actually more room for family drama if you don't do something like have Luke take a 15 year spa day.

I never considered Star Wars to be about just sky walkers, that just makes the universe smaller. I hope Rey is not related to anyone, because it's kinda lame that that only one blood line are the heroes of an entire galaxy.

I have a feeling a large number of the things people are hating sounds bad on paper but work way better on screen when you aren't dissecting every piece of dialogue.

I would still be utterly shocked if I didn't love the film. Even if the Rey cutting Kylo's arm off stuff sounds moronic.

A lot of stuff from Star Wars sounds bad on paper. It would've taken unbelievably perfect reactions—that not even Oscar nominated films get—in order to prevent any kind of meltdown here on Gaf or other SW internet groves right now.
