"Liar! You're with her! You brought her here to kill me!"

Good enough for Anakin, good enough for Rey Redacted.

You know what, Maybe that wouldn't be the worst thing. Maybe Rey Falls to the dark side in VIII.
Finn gets trained, and goes after her. He ends up fighting her in an attempt to Redeem her.

I like the idea of Rey on the dark side for a movie.

Why do you think he's running in that one shot? .

Got caught knocking over trash cans again?

They're less like the pilots in Star Wars and more like the pilots in Jedi.

About four of them get multiple lines. One of those four does eat it. I won't say which, though.

Not Nien Numb, not Nien Numb.

So does the film manage to make the fact that the Jedi only returned for about 10 minutes before being Order 66'ed again not come off as depressing?
For me that's honestly one of the most obnoxious elements of this movie. This huge event happens off screen just so the new trilogy can maintain the OT's status quo of only a couple Jedi. It makes Luke seem like a chump and a hermit

Yup, they took a boss and made him like the Unabomber if he was a lazy sack of shit.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm enjoying the humor for mostly defensive reasons.

Mayne....I've never been happier to have engaged in spoilers. I woulda been in the theater watching this in shock.

Apparently she kissed him on the cheek, so I'm not expecting a tank.

And she's not blading for this jobber.

Cheek? Nope. He gets the forehead kiss. Doesn't even rate a peck on the cheek.

Well, at least Boyega didn't get relegated to playing a CGI mocap character like Lupita Nyong'o.

She did an excellent job with her character.

Bobby I saw you in the old spoiler thread speaking intelligently on these issues regarding Finn, his race, and his representation before. So I want to ask, are we all just buggin', or, do you think that these are issues that a lot of people will be upset about?

I saw recent interviews where even Boyega (After having seen the movie) was kinda walking back his own importance, being all "Honestly, I related a lot more to Rey than Finn". That shit was already a red flag.

Does he ever come close to being a character whose eyes you see the story through? That's what I was maybe hoping for. We knew he wasn't gonna be as badass as the trailers showed or anything, but the call-sheet seems to have implied more prominence than what people actually got in the movie.

I'm feeling like I need to call up people and curb their expectations.

Ignoring credits order, if you asked me, I would say that this is 100% Rey's story. She's the lead character, everyone else is supporting.

For me, he was the character I saw the story through. I don't relate to Rey at all. I like her as a character, and I think Ridley did a good job with her, but Finn is, as I put it in the review (that you can't read yet, shit), the heart of this movie.

Saw it 2D. I'm not sure any of the press screenings were 3D.

Which is interesting because I saw him as simply someone who was there supporting. Aside from the initial escape sequence you could pull him out of the film and still have the same general story. If you pull Rey out, the story falls apart.

To be fair, something like 30+ years have passed since the end of RotJ.

Hey Bobby -

Now that you've seen the film - how far off is the Spoilerboard from what you viewed? Was there anything that stood out as something that deviated from the leaked shot list?

They recently updated the spoiler board based on stuff that came from people who saw the movie and the pastebin so I would imagine it's pretty close

Oh yeah, I said earlier that it was closer to 75%, but it looks like it's being updated as people post stuff on reddit and reviews roll in, but that's almost cheating, really: Once verifiable reports from multiple screenings start landing with two days to go, it's almost not worth adding anything more.

As it stands, whatever's up there now is more or less accurate. 5 days ago, I'd have said it was closer to 85% overall. A couple weeks ago, I'd say it was about 75% right.

That's part of the fun of the spoilergame - the look back at what went wrong and how it got that way.

Out of curiosity, Syriel, what did you think of Rey as a character? How did Daisy do in the role?

it's not gonna be any question when you guys actually see those two interacting in certain scenes. There's a thing there.

Also, looks like Variety is reporting pre-sales are at $100 mil for opening weekend already.

I loved Rey as a character.

You're going to see thousands of little girls dressing up as Rey for Halloween, the same as thousands of little boys dressed up as Luke Skywalker back in the OT days.

Daisy did an excellent job with the role as written.

I know Bobby disagrees with me, but I really felt as though this movie (and the upcoming trilogy) is going to be Rey's story, just as the OT was Luke's story and the PT was Anakin's story.

I don't know why he would disagree with that. I think that was made pretty obvious about a year ago.

Oh how i wish we could get a new trilogy that didn't just focus on the solo or sky walker line only. Saving the galaxy and all that jazz.

I need some new adventures. (Standalone movies excluded)

He just said a few posts ago that he felt Finn was the heart of the film.

Maybe you're both right.

I know Bobby disagrees with me,

I didn't say it wasn't going to be her story, or that it isn't hers now, really. I said Finn felt more like the P.O.V. to me. He's the in to what's going on more than she is. To me, at least. I related more to Finn than I did to Rey. Mileage may vary for others, but he felt like the heart and the anchor of the film more than she did, even as she has the Force powers and the visions.

I need some new adventures. (Standalone movies excluded)

Why would you exclude the thing you're specifically asking for?

That is fantastic. I'm hyped for my younger cousin to see this film! Her two younger brothers were always both big Star Wars fans, but she's become a huge fan of the franchise herself and has been absolutely pumped to see this film because of Rey. This will mean a lot to her.

In all seriousness I am so happy to hear that Rey is a good character and Daisy plays her so well.

My girlfriend is immensely more excited, about the Lead being a girl. Which from everything i have read (I will get a better picture tomorrow via reviews) Is a complete bad ass, and plays her role well.

Both are familial/friend-kind of kiss. Reserved for someone you're grateful for, but not feeling romantic at.

Also pity, which is about as unsexy as you can get.

What does it matter?

New adventures are new adventures. And you're getting one every other year.

It matters because a trilogy and a spin standalone are different.

An its not just the new adventure alone that i want. It's exploring new lore, with or without the republic or the empire or the first order being the sole focus as baddies or goodies. Things that i liked in the EU (i know) that was explored sort to speak, that turned out to be very interesting.

Not rehashes of plot points and narratives from the original. Fresh character arcs and new expectations.

Because so far it seems that we are getting more of the same, regardless of the end results. Neither is bad but it just not intriguing.

It's exploring new lore,

You're never going to get that because this shit is set in the same universe. It's the same "lore" for everyone (which isn't even LORE, it's just backstory at best, if that).

If what you want is EU-type shit, it's mostly already here, and it's going to keep coming. But I don't see the point in asking for new shit, getting new shit, and going "Nahh" because it's not in the form of a specific trilogy.

standalone films aren't inherently lesser. Trilogies aren't inherently superior.

Lore is fucking overrated and over-cited. And hugely misunderstood anyway.
