Well he is in a coma. Maybe Maz helps him a bit.
Do you really think he'll be in a coma for 2 more movies? Not dead, just a coma?
He'll be back early next movie no doubt.

I wonder though, if they could go on a more interesting direction with Finn in the long run. Can a person who is not force sensitive but has the will to want to be part of something greater eventually train himself to become attuned with the force? Is it something you can "learn" if you're not born into it? Mythos so far tells us no, but what if he finds a way?
You don't think the average person thinks Lightsaber=Jedi?
Finn absolutely takes it to Kylo. He talks shit, and then he rushes him. And he holds his own (and even gets the upper hand for a very brief moment) before shit goes sideways on him.
He lasts longer against Kylo than Anakin did against Dooku, for example.
He might not be force sensitive (and it doesn't seem to be the case) but he's definitely heroic in this film.
It's not a fake out. Go watch the trailers. Everything points to Rey being like Luke. You just let yourself get emotional about a character you knew nothing about.
Pls no force bonds. Those were creepy enough in KOTOR.
Well yeah. But I wasn't talking about him being the lead. Merely about the fact that for 99% of people, lightsaber=Jedi. I'm sure marketing knew that and wanted to lead you in that direction. Hence... Fake out.

I don't care what the average person thinks. I am saying they had Finn with the lightsaber in marketing because he actually in fact has the lightsaber in a large portion of the film. Or at least larger than the few minutes Rey has it.
They literally could not show anything from the movie with Rey having the lightsaber because it would ruin the final fight. And you pretty much have to show Finn with it because you would barely have any footage to use otherwise.

Most people I know could tell from the trailers that Rey was going to be the lead. Mainly because she was an orphan on a desert planet. Then they showed how scared Finn looked when fighting Ren. There's Rey screaming over his body. All of that is told in the trailers. Visually. The problem is you were so worried about your expectations for the movie you couldn't sit back and see what was right in front of you.
Your expectations fucked you.

He's in a coma at the end of the movie. So unless this happens over the course of Episode 8, I doubt it. Even then I imagine,

Force bonds aren't a thing after Disney destroyed the EU, unless they choose to bring it back at least. This movie's probably going to be a wash anyway if Finn goes down halfway through the film and it has as much retreading as it looks. It could happen. It would only make sense really given personally i don't know how they will lead him into the new story. He doesn't have a ship, he doesn't have a companion (Unless BB-8 stays with him but i doubt it) anymore, he doesn't really have a reputation unless you factor in Phasma and his Duel with Ren (but we know how that ends). Since Rey could be or would be on her path to Luke.
Yeah because there's this international law which says movie trailers must contain footage from the final fight in the movie. Yup.

Han was frozen in carbonite at the end of Empire. He got better. And went on to be perhaps the most popular hero of the OT.
Let's see how this trilogy plays out before drowning in disappointment and demanding answers.
Still two movies to go. This movie introduces Finn the stormtrooper, his disillusion with the First Order, meeting Rey and Han and the rest, etc.I followed everything, and there was definitely a time when I was expecting something more from Finn.

In retrospect, can you really blame some of us for feeling like this may be a bit of a letdown?
And it's not just stuff directly related to LF. I saw so much interviews, magazines, youtube videos, etc making it seem like this was some sort of duo. They were often marketed as co-stars on some sort of equal footing.
Ultimately, I'll just have to judge for myself. But even the early hype doesn't seem to be pointing to Finn making much of an impact here.
Han was shit in ROTJ lol.Han didn't become a Force Sensitive in RotJ.
Han didn't become a Force Sensitive in RotJ.

If Finn really isn't Force-sensitive and that's what goes down, then Kylo got that homeopathic Skywalker blood. No wonder he's so angry. It would actually make him more interesting to me.
Finn probably wasn't even trained in melee weapons. That seems to be a specialty. Those weapons are definitely not standard issue for Stormtroopers.

It's the first act in a three part story
How can you say that there isn't something more to Finn when we dont even know his whole story?
"This book sucks.""Wait for the next film!1"

What more is there to explore? really.
Who does he become after getting owned?
Personally, him not being initially Force sensitive sounds infinitely more interesting to me than just another strong Force user.I wonder though, if they could go on a more interesting direction with Finn in the long run. Kind of like when Luke killed himself after getting whooped in Empire?
"This book sucks""This book sucks."
"Did you finish it?"
"No but I read 3 chapters and my favorite character isn't the hero yet."
Luke didn't get owned into a coma.

Would he even really have that latitude. The coma thing does allow Rian Johnson to soft reboot the character if he so wishes/sees a need for it.

"Wait for the other two to come out"
Nope. But he got the girl and went down in history as a beloved character who people still consider perhaps the best in the trilogy.
Someone has to be a Jedi to be a good character now?
The trailer even shows that Finn looks like he has no idea what he is doing with the lightsaber so people who have seen the trailer wont have expectations of him being a "superhero". This is utterly ridiculous, we don't need pulp action movies to save us from social injustices by having someone of a specific race save the galaxy using their special powers. How about just enjoying the movie without focusing on such nonsense, after all they are all aliens in a galaxy far far away... Plus, isn't it more heroic if Finn ends up helping to save the galaxy without having to rely on the crutch of Jedi super powers ;p.

Luke didn't get owned into a coma.
It could literally happen at the very end, it doesn't change anything. So we can clarify...you do in fact realize the Finn fight doesn't take place half way through the movie right?
Nah. He just had his dominant hand lopped off. No biggie.
How many people of color in a scfi movie have you seen save the galaxy? let alone a scfi book.
Wait for the next movie, it's a trilogy, etcHey he got a bad ass mechanical hand. That he can fling around with and or punch with.
Seems like a sick deal in return.
