The music was used very strangely compared to the OT. Some themes are brought back but used in a weird way. They play Luke's theme whenever there was something heroic on screen, like when Finn takes Poe aside to talk about escaping where it wasn't very fitting imo. It's not played when we see Luke though.
The force theme was all over the place and didn't feel very special. One strange instance on the top of my head was when the planet was blowing up at the end (why no ring on that explosion??), why play it there? The rebel theme was quoted when Han landed the Falcon on starkiller which felt out of place too (is the theme used elsewhere?).
The new themes in the other hand were rather weakly used. Kylo's theme is very unmemorable, but it worked nicely for both scenes where he was mad and when he was angry, it felt like it could go both good and bad. I liked the theme for the resistance, it gave me "The Flag Parade"-vibes. Rei also got a nice theme, though not memorable. Snoke had some music playing but it was completely drowned out for the most part. I heard a male choir but that was about it. Did Finn have a theme?

Didn't really like the bad guy in this movie... not the main one (Ren? Ben? Can't even remember his name but Solo's son) or the big guy he answered to. I loved Darth Vader, but this felt exactly like Darth Maul to be honest. No character development.

Can't agree on that at all. I think we got more in this movie than we really ever got from Vader (at least in Vader's first appearance). I love that while he wanted to be as powerful and menacing as Vader, he was basically a massive fanboy -- the scene talking to his melted helmet was great, Ren was still somewhat a petulant child, throwing temper tantrums, despising his parents, probably a little because he felt abandoned, but probably because of Snoke's manipulation, we even got his little conflict with Hux -- that scene with the two of them talking to Snoke felt like Ren vying for Snoke's attention, Snoke is something of a father figure, or at the very least someone Ren really wants to impress. I loved that he got some scenes with the helmet off, too. Adam Driver is phenomenal, and this isn't Spiderman or Judge Dredd -- there's no reason he has to keep the helmet on in most of these scenes. Giving him an opportunity to really act was a great decision, he did a lot with subtle facial expressions -- especially in that brilliant bridge confrontation.

Agree. Kylo wasa great character. Delivered what Anakin should have been in the prequels and had way more depth than vader already
If I see him as a Vader fanboy it makes me a bit happier about him, I'll take it.

Not a stated reason in the film but people are thinking it is because Rey was around. Probably Luke's orders: "Keep this data safe, stay put until you see Rey for the Force will lead her to around you sooner or later". Or something like that.

You'll see it coming from a mile away though. This movie is basically A New Hope.
My thoughts exactly. He is everything Anakin should have been. And could have been with better direction, writing and a better actor. Kind of makes you wish Disney would go "fuck it, we are remaking the prequel trilogy next."

Good movie but I will say the second half was not as good as the first half. Despite that this movie is a thousand times better than the sequels ever were. So Disney is on the right track.
However when they revealed the villains face it made me even more irritated about bad casting choices. He did not fit that role at all and only appeared goofy. Whats up with hiding your face half the movie, but once you take off the helmet you are visible to everyone suddenly. I enjoyed him while he had his mask on. The illusion was gone once they tried to show his "human" side with personal struggles or "demons".
Another problem with the movie was too much fan service, playing it safe repeating cliches of the older movies in the same order. It was way too predictable how things would happen, especially with Han Solo and was a poorly done scene in my opinion. Didn't feel much drama or sadness. It felt pretty rushed, along with the introduction of the force and potential with the heroine. Unfortunately Harrison Ford did the best acting in the whole movie so he will be missed. Seriously Carries Fishers acting was fucking stiff. Was really disappointing, maybe she has always been bad but I was just young at a time.
Outside the corny, recycled, predictable and safe plot points the opening was amazing. It was actually interesting to see all the events that followed before they went on full range battlemania. It was amazing to see stormtroopers being so intimidating and threatening in the dessert. It was such a joy to have action that was not entirely just green screen and shit like George Lucas had been making with the sequels. I was grinning all the way during these parts. I also love all those alien practical effects, but unfortunately they spent very little time with them. Was a very believable world and JJ Abrahams did a great job and service to the series.
It is a good movie but not really anything amazing. I hope that for the sequel they take more chances with the plot and do some new things while being fresh. I wasnt crazy about all the new leads but they did their job well. For once I look forward to a sequel but I hope it is even better!

I was kind of dissapointed about Phasma though. Was expecting to have a role of some importance, but all she did was disable the shields like a wuss.
Also, while I like the callbacks, I hope the next movie has more interesting planets. Not another Tatooine or Hoth.

Having slept on it now I can say more. Hans death was pretty apparent throughout. It was clear he was passing the falcon/torch to Reynolds early on. Also I kinds guessed it as I figured someone would die and as weird as it sounds I can easily picture Chewie without Han but I couldn't picture Han without Chewie.
I do think there was a missed opportunity to see a single shot of Chewie alone, lost, still as the celebration of their win happened around him. I k ow you see him late sitting down but his loss didn't seem as powerful as it could have been
