[SPOILERS] Star Wars: The Force Awakens - It's True. All of it.

I don't even remember that quote, much less a prequel cameo.

Hux did mention Clone Troopers at one point, though. I think that (and the Maz flags) were the only outright Prequel-era references.

Kinda curious what Trevorrow is going to end up doing. If the fucker ends up making a Death Star Mk.4, I might be checking out.

Was fairly hilarious that they just built a much bigger Death Star and even compared it to the old one in a "Wow look how much BIGGER this one is to the old one!!!".

Still gets blown up by some guys taking down a shield generator and a lone X-Wing.

I'm fairly certain it's been said that both Rian and Colin were brought in for discussions on TFA and Colin has also been involved with the initial stages of planning for Episode 8 with Rian.

So they are all definitely in the loop.

All those deliciously crappy cam scenes linked earlier...GONE.

Disney all PEW PEW PEW!

Never seen shit from a movie disappear so fast.

Well... since everybody posts a "just got back and..."

- i liked.

- but contraire to EVERY SINGLE OPINION out there, i think it didnt feel like star wars

- i felt it was very dark. The first order is too powerful and opressive. This is a big achievement for the movie, but made things kinda.. i dont know how to put aside from saying its too dark, darker than the original trilogy

- All new characters are great. You get to like em all really really fast

- Poe explanation felt kinda cheap

- It wasnt very clear that the snow planet was the starkiller (my wife didnt got it, i bet a lot people didnt either)

- the starkiller explosion was kinda anticlimatic. The Spaceball One explosion felt more real than this, with everybody running desperate and escaping and the bear

- i was expecting more explanations. I didnt get and im kinda glad they keep it for the sequel

- It WOULD be pretty funny it Snoke had the same height as Yoda. Yeah, it would. No matter what mr "WE ALREADY KNOW IT WONT BE LIKE THIS" say

- the theater had 6 rooms showing the movie. All full. Most people were dressed as some character. Several Kylo Rens. People cheered at points but was lovely. In brasil

I was watching an entire DVD screener rip of Revenge of the Sith

Okay, I remember that shit too. But I'm talking about people phonecamming specific spoilers/scenes and upping them, not inside leaks from the studio hitting scene groups. Usually it takes a day or two after wide release before that kinda consumer-side shit really starts in.

Those instagrams were dropping, what, last night? Two days before the movie technically even opens in America?

I haven't seen that kinda shit really happen with a movie recently. Happens with trailers all the time, though.

I think the closest I can come up with was the Howard the Duck post-credits thingy on Guardians hitting the day before the film opened? during a projectionist preview run?

Does this sound like a viable theory on Rey being Luke's daughter?

Basically I figure she was at the jedi academy as a little kid when Kylo went nuts and wrecked the place. Then Luke fearful that anyone with the Skywalker genes could go bad easily like Vader (as Kylo did) dropped her off on Jakku as a kid and manipulated her memories perhaps so she forgot about the academy - never to be trained as a jedi so as to protect her and the galaxy. Then he ran away to connect with the force at the first jedi temple. Basically skywalkers are cursed rather than saviours is what he's thinking.

So do they do any kind of explanation of how the Resistance and First Order came to be, the New Republic, etc

No, its basically how they also dont really explain in EPIV what the empire and the rebels are. Thats one of the lows of the movie, but doesnt really take the fun away

So do they do any kind of explanation of how the Resistance and First Order came to be, the New Republic, etc

nope. it's all a bit irritating and despite driver's character being a far more convincing version of the old archetype, the nu empire are completely monotone and thematically uninteresting. massive wasted opportunity which to my mind should have drawn parallels with 1920s brown shirts rather than a premade all powerful nazi war machine, which seem to exist only to reset the status quo to episode iv.

but i suppose that's what a treasure trove worth of spin offs are for.

Just came from the movie. My thoughts:

The worst
- Adam driver as Kylo Ren (Ben Solo) was very bad. The idea behind the motivations for his character, a dark side guy still haunted by love of his family, instead of the other way around is very ingenious. But we got only a couple of scenes that showed this internal conflict, and adam did not deliver them as he should. We really need to understand his moitvations of going to the dark side, because what info we got just took me out of the character.

- Phasma was criminally underused in this. Hopefully she gets more screen time on the next episodes.

- Han's death was telegraphed miles before it happened. When he says to chewie that he always gets away with talking to the people that want to kill him, that was his death senetnce right there. I wish it was more of a surprise. Also, he was the father figure death rey needed to get the emotions she needed to defeat kylo, so I guess there's that.

- The general (forgot his name) of the first order was not well cast. I get it, young guy with ambition wants to exterminate everyone, but I wish it was an older actor, and that he had more nuance than "lets exterrminate everything"
- Not alot of story in the midst of all the action, but I understand they need to divide the info dump between at least 3 movies, so I get it. Still felt short tho.

The best
- Holy shit I loved john boyega's Finn. The actor was brilliant, he had the real heroe's journey here. He had to find the strenght to be brave, not like Rey who already had that. and the idea of a rogue stormtrooper is awesome, they are not all puppets after all.

- Rey was incredible. I could not think of a better actress and character to be this gen's luke. SHe is charismatic, easy to sell as a hero, and we are looking at a whole new prism on how to force calls out those who are strong with it.

- Cinematography of this movie is amazing. Some shots made here are some of the best i've seen in years.

- Soundtrack mixes old with new arrangements very well.

- Perfect ending. I was kinda annoyed at first, but then it hit me, I am very spoiled when it comes to star wars movies, when I watched them as a kid, all 3 original trilogy movies were already out. I never had to wait. So now I appretiate that ending, it ended precisely where it needed to.

I just came back from the cinema and... Wow... Wow... This movie just rekt all my expectations like crazy.

I would rank this movie #2 behind Empire Strikes Back because Empire was a classic, but this movie could become a #1 contender as a retrospective classic.

Also RIP Han Solo. You went out your own way, talking.

Can we talk about how fucking awesome Rey is? She ends the movie being both the new Luke and kinda the new Han Solo as well. Just a badass from start to finish

That mini boss storm trooper with the cool weapon. Why the hell was that not Phasma fighting Finn instead? Would have been enough to make her character a worthwhile inclusion.

Also, so Rey was obviously a student of Luke's jedi school along with Kylo, right? And that training is part of the memories she's repressed? It would explain why she's so good at everything and why Kylo makes such a fuss about her ("WHAT GIRL?! *force choke*).

The movie is exactly what whiners asked for and they are now whining because it's exactly what they asked for, a good Star Wars movie.

Disney play it safe and it's exactly what I wanted them to do for the first one, especially after the prequels:

- Make good new characters. ( done with Rey, Kylo, Finn )
- Good plot. ( it was really good )
- New enemies. ( First Order + Knights of Ren )
- Get ride at the prequel stuff as much as possible. ( Done )
- Get ride of the old crew as much as possible. ( Almost Done )
- Dark side Vs Light side without political crap. ( Done )
- Jar Jar is finally dead. ( Youpiii )

We need to take in consideration what Disney have to start with too, all Jedi are dead beside Luke, All Sith are dead, the Empire has fallen, the cast is too old to be the heroes anymore, they need to introduce SW to the new kids etc... I think they did a pretty good job overall.

I think the problem is that the Die hard fan have unrealistic expectation for the SW movies, it won't revolutionize the cinema like the OT did because we already know everything, rules are set and can't be changed, we know what a Jedi is and what he can do, same for the Dark side, the Empire/Republic stuff etc... it will always be the same no matter what different you want it to be because it's what Star Wars is.
Well said. They kept it simple in this one which was very, very smart. Reminds me of what Red Letter Media says in the PM review: unless you're Kubrick/Tarantino/Von Trier/etc. you really shouldn't stray too far from the formula.
They'll be making a bunch of spinoffs as well as Ep8-9, so I'm sure people will get their experimental SW movie that has a structure unlike anything in cinematic history and has no call-backs to previous movies, it just wouldn't have been a good idea to do that in this one.

So from reading this is what I'm getting:

After the fall of the Empire the New Republic rose to power and didn't believe in having its' own military like pre-Clone Wars. Leia, or someone else, disagreed and made their own military force to fight the First Order which we don't know how they came to be

saw it last night ( NZ midnight is before everyone else, muhahaha)
and i absolutely loved it. and is was mostly the new characters that really nailed it for me

Kylo certainly wasnt what i was expecting for the villain, but i really liked how that turned out. First time starwars has had a villain not completely self confident, and his rampant inner conflict mad him feel a lot more volatile than any previous villains, really interested to see where his character goes in the coming films.

I thought her performance was pretty stiff and she seemed just as nervous as Mark Hamill was in back in the original Star Wars.

this is infinitely more exposition than is even hinted at in the film.

think she's one that you might feel differently about depending on where you're from. she's way too proper to carry off the character she's playing for me. give her a bit of an MLE twang and she might not seem quite as much like the student standing behind you in tesco in her pyjama bottoms buying a bumper bag of quorn nuggets while her parents pay her rent.

Wow, yeah that woulda been way better. Just have her run away afterwards.

I get the feeling a couple of scenes of Phasma were cut. I mean wasn't there this photograph of her standing on the ruins of Maz's Castle. She's nowhere to be found during the battle. Also she never fires her gun, or I missed it.

Remember how we all thought this was going to be a big scene :/

Hmm can't remember. Will try to look for it. Disappointing if true.

Love your avatar.

Serpico is a boss.

Wow we actually have people criticizing Adam Driver's acting in the film.

That's when you know this thread is dead, gone to shit, and it's time to bail.

Wondering if anyone else felt the relationship between Finn and Poe/Rey felt weird. They became best friends so quickly.

Saving a person's life probably has that effect.

That's extremely specific.

it made sense to me.
it seems like neither of them has ever actually ever had any friends, Finn being a indoctrinated stormtroper and Rey just hanging out in the desert, so naturally they would get attached to each other pretty fast.
and yeah, saving each other repeatedly certainly would help.
