Square Enix asks fans about if Persona 5/FF15 were out at same time, release hint?

Both obviously but if there can only be one: FFXV and it isn't even remotely close. FFXV is the young triumphant hero, destined to save the series, with a legacy steeped in decades and a last bead of hope placed upon it's back. It's the JRPG summer blockbuster. It literally HAS to be good, and I wanna be there day one.

Persona 5 is like a film festival movie. Hell yeah it will be brilliant, but it isn't worth going to a theater to see opening day. Wait until the crowds die down and the price drops. Also for all the praise 4 gets I kind of hate it compared to P3FES and the larger main Shin Megami Tensei series. If this was SMT5 it'd be harder.

That's cute that they think there's even a chance they'll have FFXV ready that soon.

Episode Duscae was pretty bad imo, and Persona 5 has been looking great, so this is a real no-brainer in all honesty.

Do I want a game that took a decade to perfect and that I've been hyped about for 10 years or a game that took a few years to make that I've never heard of?

Yeah the answer is FFXV.

That Altus tax doesn't drop.

The crappiest FF games couldn't outsell Bravely Default.

I always felt that game was a FF game.

I'm surprised too. Earliest I'd say it could be released would be late this year. Talking a late December release. More likely it'll be out sometime early 2017.

Well, the good news for you is that Persona 5 didn't take a 'few years' to make lol

The bad news is that if you haven't heard of Persona you probably need to widen your gaming tastes even just a bit

Hmm I would probably buy Persona 5 over FFXV. The demo so far has not been kind to FFXV. Still not digging the combat style.

Why did anyone like Persona 4? From what I played on the Vita it's a really boring game. Wake up, go to school, walk around, go home. Zzzzzzz

Shows you how much faith SE has in there FF franchise that they need to ask fans now , if they can rrlease it near a Atlus game.

Pretty interested in XV, but if it were a choice, it'd be Persona 5 without a second thought.

I've been a long time Final Fantasy player since owning the first one on NES when I was a kid, but Persona 4 Golden has definitely rekindled my love of JRPGs after a long absence on the Final Fantasy scene. I was super hyped for XIII but in the end couldn't even finish it because I did not care about any of the characters.

Persona 5 is my most anticipated JRPG since FFX, and I'm super excited over it.

The story (which really kicks into gear 3-4 hours in) is what pulls you in and the 'boring' bits with going to school and walking around town are to experience the social links and grow your stats (courage, ect) to make some dialog choices latter.

I might be bais, as I beat the game four times with in the month I got it, but I really loved my time with it and highly recommend you give it a shot :).

I'd buy both, but FFXV is a AAA title with amazing graphics, an open world, and a bunch of stuff... Meaning I would play P5 first and wait for all the bugs, issues and hopefully performance on FFXV to be patched.

Persona 5 by a country mile, because it's ostensibly still a story-driven JRPG and not an open-world check box with JRPG elements.

This is so true. Square and the Final Fantasy brand would be absolutely screwed if FFXV flops critically, not even a FFXIV expansion could save them lol. I'm with a lot of people in wanting XV to just blow everyone away, and if they can't even come remotely close to doing that, then they'd be better off making DQ a thing in the west

I just CTRL+F'd every page with 'Persona' and almost spat out my drink - has GAF become weeaboo heaven?!

Persona 4 Golden is a legit 5/10, dungeon design is astrocious and the whole edgy anime character shtick is embarrassing. Okay, the UI is hard - but the rest? Y'all get blinded by your affection for 2D anime characters that are as flat as their character portraits. And now you want another one of those basura Social RPGs (can't believe I'm even typing this)?

Pass. Try again. Or better yet: don't.

FFXV originates from the brilliant mind of jeux-auteur Tetsuya Nomura and will not only sell boatloads of PS4s in Japan but start the age of cinematic RPGs paired with both hyperrealismé and masterful game design. Yes, the last demo was lowkey rough around the edges but that's because it's a game that demands everything from the consoles. I prefer avantgarde open-world action-RPG gameplay to linear, turn-based corridor moé bullshit at any time of the day.

Shame on all of you tbh
I think the fact that there hasn't been a single player Final Fantasy game that a lot of people have really liked in quite some time has a lot to do with it.

Clearly Persona doesn't work for you, but to criticize Persona for an "edgy anime character schtick" and then try to lift up fucking Tetsuya Nomura with some 25 cent French art terms is frankly hilarious. How he gets so much clout as an artistic visionary director for directing the Kingdom Hearts series will be forever beyond me. Also, an open world RPG is probably the least avant-garde video game someone could design at this point.

The fact that you watermarked your gif that will be forgotten after a few pages in this thread makes me think this is probably a joke post.

Edit: Well I guess I was right. The fact that it was plausible to me shows I have spent too much time reading FFXV threads.

No contest, FFXV easily.

I would've played P5 had it come out in what is a barren moment for me right now. But after P3, P4 and Catherine, I don't expect good storytelling from Atlus (especially since Atlus seems to always tell its story the same way), I do expect good gameplay, though if they still rely on elemental weakness exploitation....it can get REALLY boring. Boss fights tend to be good though.

I'm expecting reviews for FFXV to be in the 8's and everyone commenting on it being a 'grand return to quality FF' but gamers are completely split on the title; some really love it open world and combat system, but others hate that alongside being disappointed with the story.

Square cannot win regardless on what they do for FFXV, so the best they can do is offer a fun, polished experience that is ALOT better than the XIII series.

Even if there is a port, I still don't get what you're saying. P5 and FFXV are both PS4 titles. Why would you be able to play one, but not the other?
It is not that I can't. I own all consoles. It is simply how I want to play RPGs and how it fits with my everyday life.

FF XV will not have a Vita version that's obvious (I will have to play it on a home console then, but I hate this for RPGs). I am pretty sure that P5 will have a Vita port. It makes so much sense for Atlus (they work for money after all), and technically the game is nothing special and already runs on PS3.

People kept saying that, so I bought it, played it for hours, then turned it off because it was too boring.

Just feel slightly bad that you won't enjoy one of the finest gaming experiences ever created. It's not for everyone, clearly, but if it resonates with you, it is amazing.

Joke post or nah?

XV day one. I already put 40 hours into the Demo.

Still need to play persona 1-4 so that I don't miss any important plot threads.

Persona 5 feels like a safe bet. I'm confident that in the worst case it will be "just" a great game, best case a truly amazing one.

I don't have that confidence for FFXV. The FF XIII series was a mixed bag at best and I don't think very highly of Episode Duscae either. It showed potential, but it was mostly just a big and boring mess. That's just my opinion of course, but I'm not entirely confident if the final product will be a big enough improvement.

The game runs on PS3? Ick. That should be the deal breaker for everyone saying Persona in here. Last gen trash needs to go.
