I've waited too long for Persona 5. I need this.
Why does Final Fantasy get such a bad rep? One kinda bad game out of 15 great games isn't really a bad track record. If you think the company that invented JRPGs is scared of some company that still makes games for the Vita (lol) I don't know what to tell you.

I prefer avantgarde open-world action-RPG gameplay to linear, turn-based corridor moé bullshit at any time of the day.

Shame on all of you tbh
this thread damn. The idea of Persona eating Final Fantasy's lunch is hilarious and awesome to me. I dunno if the FF brand has been crapped on enough over the years for that to be possible, I mean I played FF14 with a bunch of weirdos that kept talking shit about lightning returns then bought it anyways. But P5's gonna be huge.
Probably one of the worst posts i've seen in a while.
Also said by someone who doesn't even know what Persona is.
Persona's appeal has nothing to do with its graphics potential and seeing how many nose hairs you can see zoomed in to the character models, and everything to do with its style and what it does best.
Shin Megami Tensei IV released here less than a month after the JP release. Not with the way Atlus USA and Atlus Japan are communicating with each other currently.
I doubt Atlus USA has any idea when this game will come out Japan or when they'll actually be done with localization.

This question only matters for Japan.
To the poster that said ew about persona 5 on PS3, the persona series does not need eye candy or extra ram to be goat. Persona could remain on last gen forever and remain successful few series can say that. P4G made people buy vitas that alone should tell you.
FFXV day-0
I just CTRL+F'd every page with 'Persona' and almost spat out my drink - has GAF become weeaboo heaven?!
Persona 4 Golden is a legit 5/10, dungeon design is astrocious and the whole edgy anime character shtick is embarrassing. Okay, the UI is hard - but the rest? Y'all get blinded by your affection for 2D anime characters that are as flat as their character portraits. And now you want another one of those basura Social RPGs (can't believe I'm even typing this)?
Pass. Try again. Or better yet: don't.
FFXV originates from the brilliant mind of jeux-auteur Tetsuya Nomura and will not only sell boatloads of PS4s in Japan but start the age of cinematic RPGs paired with both hyperrealismé and masterful game design. Yes, the last demo was lowkey rough around the edges but that's because it's a game that demands everything from the consoles. I prefer avantgarde open-world action-RPG gameplay to linear, turn-based corridor moé bullshit at any time of the day.

And as others have said, FFXV will have a WW release, whereas P5 probably won't hit the US until the fall/winter 2016, so this question only really matters in Japan.
That wasn't the only thing they asked apparently

LOL so weird. Hype for Persona 5 has to be pretty high for SE to be asking this stuff.
I think you're being too optimistic.
Final Fantasy VII: Remake Part -1/70- Escape from Sector 1 Reactor
I love you, b.
Why did anyone like Persona 4? From what I played on the Vita it's a really boring game. Wake up, go to school, walk around, go home. Zzzzzzz
Do I want a game that took a decade to perfect and that I've been hyped about for 10 years or a game that took a few years to make that I've never heard of?
Yeah the answer is FFXV.
Luckily, the majority of people outside of Japan have never played a Persona game, so XV will still sell much better if they're released at the same time. Especially considering Atlus doesn't know what cross-region release is.
The game runs on PS3? Ick. That should be the deal breaker for everyone saying Persona in here. Last gen trash needs to go.
Keep in mind that XV is very likely to have a simultaneous worldwide release while P5 is not. Them both being Summer '16 in Japan means that in the US we'll get XV in summer and P5 in Q4.
To answer the bolded, that's how it seems. Either that or people are just really mad at Square Enix. A lot of people in here are saying they've only released crap in the last 10 years, which is just not true. SE haters need to go play XIV. It's great. Bravely Default was awesome too, and it's turn based ya crybabies.I just CTRL+F'd every page with 'Persona' and almost spat out my drink - has GAF become weeaboo heaven?!

Such a silly comparison IMO. Obviously FFXV all the freaking way! 1+ for not having an intense anime artstyle... like P5.
I mean Persona 5 is going to come out in the Summer while FFXV is most definitely coming out in the Winter so why not both?
You're looking at the comparison in context of your own surroundings, while the questionnaire on the site is...Japanese, aimed at Japanese players. In Japan, Atlus can definitely market a lot and put Persona commercials on television. In recent years, Atlus expanded their audience through many Persona games and side material, whereas FF has been dry. Atlus also benefits in the Japan market by being cross-platform.That's because the idea itself is in fact hilarious. It's highly possible when the dust settles that Persona 5 is the better game. I'm not going to argue that point, but Persona's lunch will be stolen easily if they release in the same time frame.
a.) Atlus can't out spend Square-Enix on marketing, which Square-Enix goes heavy for on mainline entries. I've never seen a Persona commercial on television, whereas there will be for XV. In addition, considering the stature of the series, there will be significantly more online discussion about FFXV (articles on whether it's bad or good).
b.) Despite the long drawn out, and ridiculous development cycle for XV; it still has 10 years of hype behind it by the time release day hits.
c.) People interested in both, are buying both. The idea that FFXV will lose sales to Persona WW is hilarious.
d.) Final Fantasy (while fallen) is still a juggernaut compared to Persona. We're talking a significant number of millions difference here.
It's easy to fall into that "hardcore" hype mentality like we do so easily here on Neogaf and other sites around the web. Call of Duty is that perfect example; we love to hate on it here, but at the end of the day it still crushes with the mainstream. Despite FF being a "fallen" juggernaut to some, Final Fantasy is still a juggernaut, and Persona isn't...yet.

dapPersona is the good kind of anime though. Unlike Xeno and Star Ocean.

I don't think 'hype' makes for a good argument about performance, because its effect is hard to measure. I agree about the sales, but as Nirolak noted earlier in this thread, Square likely not considering 'beating' Persona but rather maximizing the amount of sales FF15 can get. And again, the focus is Japan. The potential for lost sales because of close release dates is real in Japan, so if SE wants to fluff up the numbers to maximize positive media coverage, they're going to have to avoid Persona.
It's not hardcore mentality so much as light joking mixed with some serious idiots, I suppose.
Old curmudgeons like me have been put off since FFXI.Why does Final Fantasy get such a bad rep? One kinda bad game out of 15 great games isn't really a bad track record.
