When I was exiting the cinema I heard some guys complaining about Rey being the hero because she's a giiiiirl. They even called her "the girl" instead of Rey.

I was fueled by their hate.

Another good moment was when Rey is being interrogated and she tells the storm trooper to drop the weapon after opening the door and he does it like he knows he is being mind controlled but cant do shit about it "sigh...(weapon drops)"

Oh boy, i can already imagine the reactions from the people mad of having a woman and a black dude as leads

i wouldn't mind Rey not having some tacked on romance subplot really. Have Finn do that - or Poe, or BB8 for all i care.

I hope the makers of the films realize that you can get attached to someone and do anything in your power to save them from danger, even without romantically loving them or being blood relatives. Rey would go to great lengths to save Finn, because she cares about him, because he's her friend.

I really like Rey i just felt the acting was a little too inconsistent, some parts were great, others really jarring.

It is fascinating, the resistance people have to that.

I think it's cool that it's happened on such a big stage.

I did hear someone say every shot in the film was built to be "way too PC". I like to think that I misheard the guy, but I dunno.

It was okay. I enjoyed it. Some nice scenes and I liked the two new leads. But it doesn't bear analysis. It utterly falls apart. And way too similar to Ep IV for my liking.

Fuck those guys. I hope Episode VIII is a buddy movie with just Rey and Ahsoka kicking ass just to piss off guys like that.

Poe was such a badass in this film. I hope he gets more screentime in Ep VIII. Even though he's not holding a lightsaber, you'd think the force was very strong with him. He just picked off Ties like it was nothing. Beast.

Stole every scene he was in, if one character exuded Star Wars from the new crew it was him.

I'm not sure they'll go that route. Han, Wedge, Chewie...all good pilots without being force-sensitive.

One thing I have to remind myself of is that the way I see this film could change when the other two parts are released, its not a solo film, its the sum of a part. The interesting comparison with episode 4 is that, while they are similar, episode 4 is a complete film and could have been the only film and would still be a brilliant movie. This has a load of cliffhangers, questions, not just meta questions that expand the story but huge ones that NEED to be answered.

I think the fact that as a singular story it still leaves so much to be explored has affected my viewing a bit.

Yeah, Wedge is definitely the better pilot than Luke. Saved Luke's ass in ANH with a baller move against a TIE that Luke couldn't shake. Wedge didn't get shot down during The Battle of Hoth. In general, Wedge > Luke.

Ok that was some good stuff!

Finn not being a force user make me happy, Captain Phasma / Nux will be his arch enemies moving forward i hope. He needs normal people to fight after all.

Rey Skywalker, well well, abandoned by her father to protect her from the force influence. He has just seen his best friends son fall to the dark side under his schooling, Luke would for sure see this as his only out. Dumped her on a planet in outer rim with and im just guessing here Wedge Antilles 'Max von Sydow' and took off. He gave Wedge the map to find him as in the end he knew the force would find a way to bring her to him. P.s her staff lightsaber will be awesome and green.

Han... cya buddy.

Poe, ok

BB8 great

Kylo, troubled little child, about to become robot man with anger issues.

One issue though, im sure Boltcaster shots are green?

This confused me too..

For me it was when Han yelled 'Ben', genuinely spine tingling.

That line did get me, some real emotion in there

The fact you could see it from a mile off how it was going to end was quite upsetting :(

I really wish his body wasnt just lost like that, we will never see Han again, no funeral, no respects paid, sucks really.

At least Jar Jar won't attend the funeral.

Looking forward to the discussions on this once most of GAF has seen the movie,

I've noticed a kind of hypocrisy where some people are okay with a woman being heroic but as long as it's on their terms.

The more I think about this movie the more I like it. The more complaining I see people do about it, the more I like it.

The main cast is great. The Poe / Finn bromance has great chemistry. I like how Kylo Ren isn't Darth Vader v2, even if he wants to be. The costume / alien design feels like classic Star Wars. Even the comedy in it was top notch.

My two tiny nitpicks are that I wish we saw more of Phasma - I agree with people that have said maybe she could've taken the place of the Riot Control Stormtrooper with the staff - and a few new ships flying around - I like seeing new X-Wings and Ties, and I don't mind having Poe pilot a cool black and orange one, but the fleets should've at least had a few different vehicles instead of pandering with just the fan favourites. But they're both tiny nitpicks.

yeah, but i do believe that was the point of it.
Huge fucking hole, into the belly of a planet about to blow up.

Just to nip any kind of "maybe he survived, maybe someone found him, maybe he did make it" theories in the bud.

Do we even know how they 'bury" their dead in the Star Wars universe? Most plot relevante characters who died in the OT (mostly Jedi, really) were either burnt or disappeared.

I think there is alot of mileage in Finn being oblivious and sheltered, he seems like the kind of person who is either extremely terrified or extremely happy wherever he goes.

Phasma is the new Boba Fett. Makes a great action figure but doesn't actually do anything.

I suppose so, it just felt...unfitting, even Qui Gon got a funeral Pyre

I think its incredible that Gwen has been out in full force promoting a character based on absolutely nothing, its genuinely remarkable to me, I imagine there has to be deleted scenes somewhere.

Also what the deal with Sidow? Was it just a cameo or am i missing something?

It's normal for ensemble movies, anyone even semi-known has to do all the junkets and other crap.

Max von Sydow's character was a strange one though, he knew Kylo and mentioned the balance of the force. Maybe some EU stuff will tell us more about him.

Why people think Kylo Ren is an experience fighter ? he's young and act like a beast, there is no technique in his sword skill, just rage, anger and chaos, I think the movie really show it more than once, even his light saber is chaotic, it doesn't have a proper form yet.

Rey is exactly what Yoda wanted Luke to be, a force fighter but Luke wasn't really a great apprentice and he's a pretty mediocre Jedi ( I know what he'll become in the EU but they aren't canon anymore ), Rey is probably more talented and I don't see a problem at all.
