Square Enix asks fans about if Persona 5/FF15 were out at same time, release hint?

I just CTRL+F'd every page with 'Persona' and almost spat out my drink - has GAF become weeaboo heaven?!

Persona 4 Golden is a legit 5/10, dungeon design is astrocious and the whole edgy anime character shtick is embarrassing. Okay, the UI is hard - but the rest? Y'all get blinded by your affection for 2D anime characters that are as flat as their character portraits. And now you want another one of those basura Social RPGs (can't believe I'm even typing this)?

Pass. Try again. Or better yet: don't.

FFXV originates from the brilliant mind of jeux-auteur Tetsuya Nomura and will not only sell boatloads of PS4s in Japan but start the age of cinematic RPGs paired with both hyperrealismé and masterful game design. Yes, the last demo was lowkey rough around the edges but that's because it's a game that demands everything from the consoles. I prefer avantgarde open-world action-RPG gameplay to linear, turn-based corridor moé bullshit at any time of the day.

Shame on all of you tbh
Haha, what an amazing post. Definitely looking forward to this game more. Gaf has lowered the hype a little bit for Persona 5 on other hand, but I'm still very much looking forward. I hope to make some time for P4G for Vita early before Uncharted 4 hits though. If they don't fuck up the MP post beta like they did with U3, I will be spending a ton of time on it next year.

Final Fantasy XV and it's not even close.

That'd be earlier than we were expecting though.

Nibel is right and that's how the mainstream market will react in both Japan and the West.
Doesn't matter that he was sarcastic, he was right.

Was curious to see how other social media members would compare to GAF, the dichotomy's certainly there. Pretty much what I expected.

Not that Persona 5 is more popular than Final Fantasy (it isn't), but your Twitter followers also isn't the general populous. It's as indicative of anything as the responses in this thread are.

FF is a lot more well known than P5 though, even people who don't even play JRPG's or Japanese games are aware of it. Whereas with Persona, your lucky if people even know what it is.

Is it really fair? Most of us who have chosen Persona have atleast played a few of the games and based our conclusions around watching the trailer/s

Yep, the demo lacked alot of features such as magic, actual summoning system, real time weapon switching, dodging initially, etc. Hell the demo is pretty much an alpha build.
Not even "pretty much". Considering their "finishing pre-beta" comments. It was straight up an alpha build. They really should have slammed the word alpha all over Duscae instead of passing it off as any sort of realized product.

As for the question in the thread. FFXV, easily.

Really surprised by the answers here, so many Persona picks I love it :). I would pick both no question and I'd would finish FF XV first I think. Also looks like September will be the month of FF XV release

General populous probably isn't the best term to use. Something like social media posters who might not frequent GAF much or at all.

I'm actually surprised that your followers would slant so heavily towards FFXV, since you likely have "core oriented" followers, who have played or know Persona. I guess the relentless negativity/pessimism surrounding FFXV is truly a NeoGaf thing.

(Not gonna pretend I'm not part of that problem, either)

Persona is niche and not known outside Internet forum chatter. It may be a popular choice on Gaf but in reality it stands no chance on against XV. SE is just trying to maximize profits in Japan.

A new questionnaire that went live on the official website today asks, ‘if Persona 5 and Final Fantasy XV came out at the same time, which would you prefer?’...

se is not gonna be happy with an honest response to this question :) ...

are some people serious here...Outside of Gaf and internet you hardly won't people who even know what Persona is.
FF Games do sell around 6M+ Copies - Persona Games are more in the Niche Market like the other JRPG Games.
There is no competition at all. The only reason why SE is asking this, is probably because they wan't to know the opinions of the core gamers

I can olny repeat myself - SE should be more concerned about the likes of Mass Effect

Edit: I will buy both!

Since GAF is really into niche games no surprise that Persona is really popular here compared to the more successful and popular franchise...

Loved Persona 4 Golden, didn't finish it, couldn't be asked to go through those boring dungeons again...

EDIT: since I never played a proper Final Fantasy game before, i'll play FF first over Persona!

Maybe in the west, I feel like Mass Effect has become too much of a third person shooter to compete in the RPG genre. Bioware games in general feel more and more like action games.

this is about Japan though.

I don't get how FF is mainstream enough to sell millions more in the west. I know it will but I don't get it. It's gotta be like 90% of jrpg fans are "core" gamers. You'd think they'd know Persona and the like equally well. Sure FF has brand recognition but isn't it more like "steer clear of that" recognition? Maybe series attachment from the golden era? I don't know

This is about Japan, Mass effect is not something to worry about in the east.

Easily Persona 5. Give us a poll, mods, it's time to throw down.

Why do it ? It's gonna win easily. It doesn't change anything in the grand scheme of things.. Internet chatter will always give persona the edge but that voice is super small.

They did do something about it. It's called A Realm Reborn and it's an open love letter to people who lost faith in the FF brand years ago.

Reusing FF characters, and theme songs did little to make me like the gameplay. Some of it could have been to save money on content creation. It made me want a HD FFXI and FXII more than it made me enjoy the game.

Lmao. There's no "bad judgement skills" for liking something that you may not like, vice versa. Seems like people are hellbent on homogenizing opinions.

This is how I look at it:

"I like X" is a preference and it's entirely up to you.
"X is better" is an opinion that needs comparison metrics/points, but people confuses it with preference. And it's up to the ability of pointing out the correct metrics and using them, and have nothing to do with tastes.

I could write a full essay, but yeah, it's not the time nor the place.

There's no point comparing XV to Persona 5. Better comparisons would be The Witcher 3 and Fallout 4.

Are people keeping their expectations in check because they want to be amazed by the massive scope and beauty of XV? Because I can't see how anyone would look at what's being presented (specifically the fully explorable Renaissance inspired city and what will likely be Shimomura's magnum opus soundtrack) and think that it is going to be a bad game, especially compared to Fallout 4 and its copypasted graphics and uncanny valley ass character models.
