People complaining about the lightsaber fights, what were you expecting? Another Qui-Gon/Obi vs Darth Maul battle, or any of the comically bad lightsaber duels throughout the prequels?

This is one thing I thought the film did well. The lightsaber fights should drive the plot and not be a useless visual spectacle. Rey is already established as being a badass with a staff weapon and they also established Kylo Ren needed further training by Snooke. The one thing that was really out of place was the storm trooper fight with Finn.

The final fight looked like a fight between a raging injured man and an untrained with sabers but skilled with weapons woman. I mean they didn't do any backflips or anything. What's up with that? At no point did they run around reciting a complex baton routine. This is unacceptable.

Why it nearly looked like they were attempting to injure each other at certain points.

I don't know why people are giving the humorous bits so much shit. The only one that fell flat for me was Finn's "I'm in charge now!" silliness with Phasma, but that might have just been because I couldn't see her as a character that was imposing or threatening in any way; she was just as subservient as the rest of them. So it just seemed like he was being a dick. The thumbs up, the "and you will drop your weapon," Poe's "So who talks first?" were all great jokes.

I gotta move this one down on my ranking list, after thinking about how disjointed and forgettable the middle of the movie is. Still better than Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, but I think Revenge of the Sith edges it out just a bit because at least it had some nice locations and music.

Please point them out. I just saw the typically Hollywood over-swinging and telegraphing your attacks, but nothing on par with the stupidity in that GIF. The other stuff be forgiven because real sword fighting is nowhere near as cool or flashy as in films ( ANH's duel is by far the most realistic sword fight in the entire series).

The fact that some people are retroactively putting the prequels ahead of it is absolutely hilarious

TFA has its faults but saying any part of those terrible films is better is an insult to the love and care that has so obviously been put into TFA by everyone involved. It's a film made with the best intentions, rather than to sell shit CGI and toys like the shallow ass prequels.

She didn't do anything and then disabled the entire base shield when confronted by a treasonous punk, a geriatric and a walking carpet. She should have owned their asses. Snoke should hunt her in the sequel.

-Kylo Renn is cool till he lets you see his face and personality. After this, he is a teenager.

-The new real bad guy. He has a shitty design.

-OST (in the first half)

-The new robot is cool.
-Nostalgia factor.

I just watched AOTC the other day. It's total shit. Straight up.
It's aged horribly effects wise (worse in fact, than ANH which I watched yesterday, I shit you not), the acting and dialogue is appalling, and the whole film is shot in this stiff, boring way. The actors constantly look like they are sitting alone in an empty room pretending to talk to someone in a location, and lo and behold, that is exactly what is happening.

I will take all of the heavy leaning on the OT and familiar elements of TFA over that shite any day.

Okay, I'll say this then: The writing is weak, and (as I've mentioned before) the characters get pushed around by the plot rather than the characters doing the work. There are numerous examples of this throughout the movie with the first and second acts basically amount to character A runs into character B before A and B run into character C.

Why? Coincidence. That's right... Finn and Rey (who may or may not be Luke's daughter) just so happen to pick the millennium falcon and just so happen to run into Han Solo (despite him having lost the falcon decades ago) who just so happens to be the father of the bad guy and the estranged spouse of a resistance general who needs the very thing that Poe (who Finn just happens to run into) was after in the first place.

You want to know my core problems with the movie (as opposed to the stuff built around it), then the above is a good start.

Caught a viewing in the afternoon before work. Fucking loved it. I have my issues with it, albeit not particularly big ones, but overall it was awesome.

Finnrey needs to happen. Boyega and Ridley chemistry too damn strong.

Finn is hilarious. I want Episode VIII to start with Poe teaching him how to fly. Those two are great together.

Snoke says it for the first time. The grandfather scene with Vader's mask came after the reveal.
By the way, Snoke is a really strange name. But they called him Supreme Leader most of the time anyway so whatever.

yeah, Im guessing the logic is it can only be tracked when its on, or maybe out in space. And I recall that its been parked for a looong time. Hence why he shows up almost immediately.
