Why did Han Solo go alone to confront Kylo, knowing his fate? He knew from before his boy was gone. Also his demise needed dramatic music by Williams, kinda like Gandalf or Boromir in Lotr.
Then you REALLY loved it right?Loved it until Han showed up.
I really do wish they'd just called him Jacen. He even showed weird time related Force powers with that blaster bolt, had less than Vader-esque temper tantrums, and sought power from physical pain. Dude was Jacen.
So if Rey isn't a Skywalker, that means Kylo is really the last of the Skywalker lineage...That's such a frightening thought imo.
Considering my crowd popped for every returning character simply appearing onscreen, I was kinda surprised when Luke turned and nothing happened. No gasps, no cheers.
But then I was like "Well, maybe they're reacting the same way I did when I saw him at the press screening." Which was to notice that his mouth was hanging open, and he looked slightly crazy and not all there, which was weird as shit when the music was trying to tell me this was a sorta-kinda uplifting moment.
It felt like the moment needed to NOT be a helicopter shot, and needed to have him speak. Say SOMETHING.
Rey is clearly an experienced and highly gifted Force user from Luke's academy who's regaining her memory and powers she had as a kid. She clowned him in force grabbing the lightsaber. I don't think Kylo could have knocked her around with the Force with her latent abilities and his condition.
Yes, you missed Star Wars
How can anyone leave a Star Wars movie to pee, you hold it in no matter what

I would've just ended it before the helicopter shot. The look of regret and resignation on Luke's face said enough.
In the aaaaaaarms ooooooof the angelsRIP Han Solo you will be missed

I think it had a great beginning, but once it hit Maz's castle it just got too familar. Then you REALLY loved it right?
Rey is absolutely a Skywalker.
This would make sense but... wouldn't she remember that? I don't know how young she was when she was brought to Jakku but she couldn't have been so young that she wouldn't remember Luke or doing training at all. So that would be kind of weird of that's where they went with it. Plus I assumed Kylo Ren basically wiped all of the young training jedi out. I guess Luke could've sensed her potential and got her out of there first but who knows.
I really like how they portrayed kylo's force powers. Every time he used the force it felt like there was weight to his actions
was there a scene after the credits???
The Resistance is an army at war. They worked with the Ewoks in ROTJ, who likely ate Stormtroopers. I don't think they dwell and neither should we.
Rey is absolutely a Skywalker.
If Rey really is Luke's daughter, that brings up another interesting plot detail - who is the mother?
Are we bound for a "Rey, I am your mother" moment in Episode VIII?
Also are R2-D2 and C-3PO the only characters who have been in every movie? I think so.
Can anyone remember what Admiral Ackbar said the first time he popped up on screen? A friend of mine started talking to me and I missed every word, but people in the crowd seemed to react wildly to it.
DId anyone else think blowing up the Senate was too much? Was it a direct jab at the prequels? lol

I really liked the movie, though it felt too familiar overall. I also hade a problem with "Snoke", has there ever been a more generic bad guy?
I think you misunderstand me. I do think Abrams fixed it.
Actually, if you look at the OT lightsaber duels, they're not that impressive. The one in ANH is by far the worst, although to be fair Alec Guinness was an old guy and probably not up to all of the stunts that would be required. Still, there is a lot of Flynning and "hit the other guy's saber".
By contrast, the lightsaber duels in TFA are much more violent and visceral, and it actually feels like the people involved are fighting with longswords and trying to kill each other with them.
This doesn't seem like a good argument. Sorry.
It's clever to draw a not so great comparison between Finn and Ren at the expense of corrupting the classic good guys vs bad guys dynamic? Kidnapped chld soldiers aren't simple bad guys.
I mean I hate to bring up PT stuff, but one of the things that makes the Clone Wars series work is knowing how the Clones are abused. I wouldn't think to "not dwell" on their upbringing.

Would have been great if instead of the human woman looking at the camera as the beam hit the planet it was a Gungan
There's just got to be more to him. I don't think we're going to get Emperor ripoff with bad CG as the true main baddie. Kylo Ren is a great villain, so I hope they don't go that way, at least.
I'm willing to end the discussion but I don't understand what you're talking about with those last points. Of course, billions of people dying by a Death Star is bad what does that have to do with Stormtrooper babies? The point I'm getting at is that the OT was simple, Empire=Bad, Rebels=Good, Empire=Space Nazis.
To introduce an element that weirdly humanizes the grunts of the bad guys adds a layer of complexity that makes things less simple. It's no longer Space Nazis v. Good guys, it's possible brain washed soldiers who may have never had real free will v. "Good" guys.
So how do you feel about our heroes blowing up a bunch of people who were kidnapped and brainwashed since birth?
How is that clever?
He didn't say anything special. They're probably just reacting to seeing him again.
