I hope Rey gets a double sided staff lightsaber like Maul had.

I don't understand. What is Rey's staff for? Is it just a tool all scavengers have when they get around?

And were we supposed to know the old man who had the map in the beginning of the movie?

That was sooooo fucking good omg

It was so obvious from the first time he was on screen which Stormtrooper was Finn tho - before any of the "characterisation" - simply cus John Boyega has really wide hips
they're really cute tbh
and you could see it compared to all the other troopers.

Holy shit, I just watched a new Star Wars movie. And the best part? It was good.

I really wish this saga were VII-X, though. I feel like Rey needs four movies. I really, truly do. TFA was overly derivative, but its other "flaw" is that it feels like it's just a beginning. An odd flaw for a trilogy, yes, but dammit I'm greedy. I want three more of Rey. Argh.

Good, good movie though. Right now I'm thinking...

Empire = Jedi > Force > Hope > Sith > Phantom > Clones

Did anyone else think the Snoke scenes were really weak? Snoke seems so uninteresting and out of place in a Star Wars film. Maybe it was the scale of his hologram or the bad cg. I feel like the hologram Darth Sidious scenes early in TPM were stronger than the 3 Snoke scenes in TFA.

Serkis+boring Cgi design are no match for Ian McDiarmid in a Robe

To be fair, it was stated at the start that Snoke's and Ren's number one priority was killing Luke. It'd make sense to train troopers in lightsaber-resistant melee weapons since normal blasters are useless against trained jedi.

Now that i think about it ... i wonder how a Jedi were to deflect someone pointing a flame thrower at them.

But i suppose they'd just force push the flames back at the Stormtrooper.

wow what I blast I had with this movie.. definately disappointed that luke only showed up for 30 secs but han solo definately made up for it. cant wait for the next one.

i was surprised that they openly showed snoke so early in the triology (the emperor was revealed only in the second movie in the original triology and while palpatine was shown in the first movie only the last movie confirmed that he was darth sidious)

I hope he has a good reason to justify his isolation for so many years. It doesn't really seem to fall in line with his character, tbh. If Luke can successfully fight and defeat his father, he can also fight and defeat his wannabe sith nephew.

Defeat, yes - but he wanted to bring out the good in him and turn him to the light side instead of killing him. With Kylo he seems directly responsible for him turning to the dark side.
He turned the kid from his sister and his best friend into a monster and the successor to his father. I can see him choosing exile to not fuck things up even further, potentially with his daughter - and searching for enlightenment. It's the path Yoda showed him in a similar situation decades before.

Just filling out the blanks here, that's my interpretation so far.

Hmm seemed so random then.

In 30 years are we going to get a "Rouge One" prequel movie about how Lor San Tekka, Poe, and a motley crew went on a quest to the desert planet Jakku to find the hidden Map To Skywalker, before the First Order is alerted and they kill Our hero Lor San Tekka in bloody combat prior to the start of Episode 7? Help me General Leia, you're my only hope.

I can see it. Disney gonna Disney.
Oh shit. He could easily be a character in Rouge One if they wanted.

The best thing about the new movie was that it completely ignored the single most awful idea from the prequels: midichlorians. I hope they will continue to treat it like it never happened.
Or, funny idea: They could refer to midichlorians as pseudo-science from the past along the lines of craniology.

Closing your eyes and getting a dragonball like powerup is now the real deal, right?

can someone please explain who the main emperor guy was? Am I meant to know who he was?

I got fed up with the signposted death and the new hope retread. I am more excited for what comes next rather than excited for what I just watched.

he is definately not darth sidious. probably someone who has risen to power between return of the jedi and force awakens. he seems to be a force user but its not confirmed if he is sith.
I loved when Kylo stopped the blaster shot at the begining. That was dope.

indeed first time we saw that

haha Kylo is essentially Jacen, Hans son in the EU. Just look up his Wookiepedia page. Its clearly who they based it off of, down to him using physical pain to gain more strength.

man if that is true thats terrible joke bad storytelling oops we did like a part of the EU lets just remake it again....now that you said that my head falls a little more with story.

So I musta blinked did they knock out the silver stormstrooper female or somesuch did they not resolve what they did with her after holding her at gunpoint? They didnt' even give her a good action scene to show us why she earned the Silver stormtrooper outfit, i'm disappointed for her/that character.

OH yeah! Daniel Craig has to have been the fightstick stormtrooper. Totally my obvious pick. Kinda stupid how he just threw down his blaster and shield to goto the fightstick so easily and be all flashy spinning it around. Totally unlike a stormtrooper I would say.

Movie just mirrored first star wars to much for me. and yeah a third death star blown up. Quite disappointed that again the empire is supreme and just wrecking entire planets with no resistance, but this time its 5 planets at once. 29 years of hohum lets tell the same story over again. Little disappointed that Rey was so good off the bat in her first lightsaber duel. Or disappointed that Kylo was that bad even while wounded. They sure kissed up to Han Solo that no look blaster kill a death trooper was to much for me. Enjoyed his fixation with the bowcaster that has to be a JJ Abrams thing.

Man Luke sure looked angry, they sure made him look like old man Ben from Tattooine. with how angry Luke was looking I still still think he is battling the dark side in some manner. That was beautiful scenery that green stone mountainside they were climbing up. Does anyone know where that is in real life? Is it a famous tourist area?

but good casting. Boyega was a great actor killed it with expressions on his face. *thumbs up to him* leading up to the movie seening the commercials I figured I was going to hate Poe but his acting was great and I totally dug his voice I bought his character all the way.

yeah and that is not General Ackar no way. Just another fish species character.

The next movie is going to be like a two hour version of the training montage from Rocky IV, jumping between Rey meditating and doing other boring stuff under Luke's guidance and Kylo slicing up people with Snoke.

The threw her down into a trash compactor (well that's the joke that was made at least)

Snoke was the weakest, he really looked like Gollum, but even though I didn't mind, I think he will have a bigger role to play coming up.

I like how the paste bin and spoiler board got a lot of it correct.

Phasma and Luke are the two anti-climatic characters in this, as in they are not in it too long.

definitely as passing of the torch moment for the new characters

other than that, I really enjoyed it 9/10 for me.

I was wrong. Whoever it was, I'll take my avatar.

I don't even mind Han dying. I just hate that some of you arrogant bastards were right. I hate that you fucking nailed so much from a fucking leaked call sheet. I was probably more invested in you distinguished gentlemen being wrong than the movie being good. That's far and away my biggest disappointment of the year. Especially you, Bobby Roberts. I hate you. But damn if I don't respect you. That was fine work, even if I fucking hate that work to death.

I'm so glad I saw the movie in time to see this post go up. Your interactions with others on these spoilers really entertained me. But I was avoiding most spoilers so I was always in the dark.

That's pretty cool.

Simon Pegg played someone in Jakku, I'm guessing, he was in hot climate in the set video. He wasn't the alien prick who wouldn't pay Rey a fair wage, right?

Yeah, Pegg was that big alien that was handing out those food thingies to the scavs.

Kylo Ren was okay when he had the mask on, but when it was off I kept getting bad flashbacks of AOTC Hayden Christensen. Especially when he was shouting things at the end of the movie. Wish they'd gone with an older villain

Everything related to Snoke was quite poor. Starting with the name. Why couldn't they create more realistic looking CGI if they didn't want to use a model/puppet? Why did he have to look so obviously fake? And I'm sure any random generator could have come up with a more menacing name in a minute or two.

Lol, that's wrong. That actor is a little person who worked on both ROTJ and the entire LOTR trilogy, definitely not Simon Pegg.

you're totally right, i somehow thought that the first result of google image searching "unkar plutt" would show the actual unkar plutt.

but seeing that there's no offical screen caps, it isn't all that accurate.

you're right, of course.

The more I think about it.

The least this movie stands on its own legs.

The plot of all the Star Wars movies is very simple and engaging.

This one is a cluster fuck.

If I had to convince somebody who doesn't know about star wars, I wouldn't know where to start.

It relies far too much on past movies and it's not having a decent story of its own.

What? A friend of mine had never seen anything Star Wars, didn't even know what a Jedi was. He enjoyed the movie a lot, had no questions about the plot and kept laughing whenever Chewbacca came on-screen.

This movie's plot is as simple and (imo) engaging as can be.

Everything related to Snoke was quite poor. Starting with the name. Why couldn't they create more realistic looking CGI if they didn't want to use a model/puppet? Why did he have to look so obviously fake? And I'm sure any random generator could have come up with a more menacing name in a minute or two.

At this point I'm convinced they're gonna reveal Snoke being something very, very different than his hologram.

I actually preferred him without the mask. I saw a tiny morsel of Hayden in there, but Driver was much better about it. Much, much better. I thought he shined without the mask.

The name "Snoke" really does continue to give me pause. What a choice.

Finally someone mentions this book. I bought this a few weeks ago, wanted to finish it before the movie, but it is kind of boring and not really good. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Well that's disappointing. I was thinking of picking it up and reading it over the holiday. Guess I'll skip it then.

Oh come on! I shouldn't need to read a book to find out considering alot of the books eu have been put out of canon

Well this is canon though. Anything released moving forward is considered canon.
