So thinking about it: do they ever explicitly say that Kylo was the one who killed all of Luke's students?

They say that Kylo used to be Luke's student before Snoke turned him.

Han says ONE of Luke's students killed everyone.

I know it's unlikely and Han probably just didn't want to mention it was Kylo, but it also sounds like they could be setting up bait and switch.

Also, the flash back scene where it happens is intentionally vague.

There's really no good reason to assume it was anyone else.

Not having Sith is great, because the Sith bring their baggage with them--only two at once, etc.

That makes things more predictable. Without the Sith call backs there are more surprises in store.

I'd like to see more Force users, both light and dark, that aren't wedded to sabers.

My only disappointment was that the first three minutes of the movie weren't the "Yub Nub" song cut from the end of Jedi.

Actually, they should have had the text crawl say something about the victory on Endor, then go to the celebration. Then go back to space for the text crawl we saw.

Do you think when George typed "Only a Sith deals in absolutes" his word processor put a squiggly line under the sentence? Grammar warning, sentence saying someone else deals in absolutes is an absolute.

I'm dying to see the movie again because I want to see that flashback scene again. They show someone with a red saber--does it have Kylo's crossguard on it? I didn't look hard enough.

no, because she hit people straight in the face with that staff.

A double bladed lightsaber isn't a staff.
Bro you can make it a staff.

I think that is the main problem i have with TFA as a movie. It felt more like Ep 7.5 instead of 7, with a lot of back-story glossed over, fast forwarded or expecting viewers to know of. I know being first of the triology, things will get tie together by 2019...

On the other hand, i may preferred TFA to be epic LOTR length with fleshed out story every episodes. I am looking at the upcoming movies, and i do feel 2 more 2hrs episodes may not be enough to fulfil our Starwars universe cravings.

did anyone find the musical score to be subpar compared to ALL the rest of the other Star Wars movies?

besides Leia and Luke's theme, there was no stand out new theme in the OST, the score was a little too ''modern'' for my tastes

Yeah and I will imagine that we will get some awesome darth vader action in that one.

I would be cool with never seeing him, honestly. Just hear about him. Like the boogey man. At most, see his fighter and hear the voice, but otherwise like an old WWI fighter film... A spectre in the clouds.

I have to say the Stormtroopers in this movie looked fantastic. Even though they only made minor changes to the look, they just looked cooler to me.

yeah, i thought the music was a bit underwhelming

Phasma is a commander, no?

She's not going to be doing ground fighting.

Well, yeah, but in a movie filled with contrivances, what's the harm in one more that would bring a bit more emotion and tension into the fight? :P

Ditto.

I didn't take it as an explicit anti-lightsaber weapon. I thought it was just a sci-fi melee weapon. Like a Star Wars tonfar.

Certainly really convenient, but looked like it could be used for crowd control too. It's basically a superduper stun baton.

Also, if Kylo "felt" the Force in Rey, he could have brought them as a precaution.

Case in point, lol. Yeah.

Yes, many people in here have said so, it was just serviceable, nothing notable at all

It was nothing special.

The Phantom Menace was much much better in the score department.

Rey killed everybody.

The reason Luke is so perturbed at the end is because he's trying to decide whether to fucking kill the sod or not

Welcome to KOTOR Town

Oh shit, I must have missed that detail. They say that one of his students actually killed the others? I thought that one had just betrayed him and they didn't say what happened to the others. I thought the other Knights might be the rest of Luke's Jedi, corrupted/turned by Kylo.

WAT. For real?

Phasma rebuffs Finn when he has his helmet off, asking him who gave him permission to take it off or something like that. They don't explicitly *say* that helmets are worn at all times, but given the rest of the movie's points on conformity, I think it's safe to say that Stormtroopers aren't supposed to take them off in 99% of situations.

It took a cue from A New Hope. If you go back and watch that, they don't explain shit either.

Then again, TFA the stuff they don't explain is a bit more central.

Luckily there will be an endless stream of yearly non-main movies. Along with books, comics and a whole bunch of other stuff for SW nutjobs like us to sink our teeth into while the casual audience can enjoy their 2h blockbuster movie without wasting an extra hour on exposition that they don't care about.

I think that's what they were going for, anyways.

Finn's banter was amazing.

"You have a boyfriend--cute boyfriend?"
"Why are you doing this *head nod* why? why? Don't you see I'm trying to come up with a plan."

Can we just have Finn and BB-8 travel the galaxy together.

I wasn't real familiar with John Boyega before the movie but holy shit he nailed his role. Really impressed with his acting

Of course it was a thumbs up, what about BB8's character or this films humour would suggest it was a middle finger.

How I read it was Finn was begging BB8 to do this and he reluctantly did it and Finn thanked him and he was like fuck you. But it's hard to tell what a droid who has no fingers is doing. I don't care either way but I interpreted it as a middle finger.

I believe they did. I think Han said it. I really need go see the movie again asap.

Yes and no.

It's not bad, JW is not capable of making a BAD score. It has a few really beautiful moments but on the whole it's largely just...inoffensive.

Which is OK. John Williams is 83 years old. This may be the last score we get from him. Expecting another Empire may be asking too much from him at this point.

Dude, it's either that or they look like cartoon CGI. It would take so much longer post production to get a bar full of aliens to look believable.

Just look at the tentacle monster from Han's ship, you honestly would rather shit look like that then high quality costumes?

I thought that tentacle monster looked better than almost every single costume so yes I would rather have that.

So how did Maz get the lightsaber? No one aside from Luke would even know where to look, and assuming he even gave it much thought, it would be like finding a needle in a haystack.

I guess gravity would have pulled it towards the core where it should have been smashed on impact or crushed by the pressure.

actually I thought it was perfectly fine, with the one new standout being Rey's theme when she is sledding down the dune at the beginning.
