It's a commen technique for special forces soldiers when shot or injured. You cause yourself pain in an unaffected area to distract your mind from your injury. Since Adam was in the Marines he probably heard of it, so he brought to the role.

I knew he was doing it for some reason, but that makes it sound really cool.

The Luke scene? Really? I thought it was incredible. And initially i was hoping that Luke was going to have more of a presence in this film. After seeing it. I thought it was perfect how they just put him at the end.

Maybe I read it wrong. Maybe his reaction at the end was, "sorry everyone....i couldn't lose the weight in time". lol.

Yeah, JJ got me with that too. At first I thought, "what!? this is some peter jackson hobbit shit." then they showed later it was a hologram. Ffffeeeewww, what a relief.

The helicopter scene in particular, the huge pan shot was so out of place, that and the fact it was daytime, on a hill, it was just so anticlimactic.

I don't know if it necessarily had to fall out the bottom of the city down to the planet, though. It may have been in some crevice within the colony rig.

Always thought that the little piece of debris Luke saw falling down in to the clouds right after he caught onto the antenna was his hand. It could have ended up in another part of the city. Cloud City's a big place and it survived the Empire at least to the end of Return of the Jedi. I wonder if we'll ever see old Lando or Cloud City again.

Actually, I liked how open they were about Ben being Han and Leia's son. They could have gone really tacky with it and had Han just drop the bomb at the end on that catwalk but we knew ahead of time much more casually, which I think really amped up the hype between their confrontation.

It's sadly astonishing, but so hugely significant.

People can look at an event like Obama's election but that has, honestly, a smaller footprint.

This movie is going to be translated into a million languages and watched by generations worldwide. The fact that it holds such a universal message while putting forward two underrepresented segments of global culture is one of the biggest things to happen this century.

Kathleen Kennedy should be Person of the Year
which is why i'm rooting for Disney not shipping her with anyone.
No forced (heh) romance, not even an organic one. It adds nothing but to once again signify that somehow a female character's story is not 'complete' without adding a man to her life. Her character doesn't need a boyfriend.

-Relationship building between Rey and Finn is nearly non existent, there's no reason for Finn to get emotionally attached to Rey enough to go save her. Same goes for Finn and Poe.

I disagree here. You're a young man who has been emotionally abandoned and abused your whole life. You meet a sweet, young girl, who can hold her own and actually compliments you and seems to like you.

You fall in love.

Same for Poe. He seems like such a nice dude. He compliments Finn, encourages him, gives him his jacket.

You immediately have a bromance.

I believe those both easily.

Theoretically, if that was his hand, and the planet is just a big gas planet, wouldn't it just be floating somewhere in the center of the planet?

So did they add fur to the shot of Rey crying over Finn in the trailer to make it look like it was Chewy?

what? no?

was there fur in the trailer? i thought people saw the brown jacket and thought she was mourning Han Solo.

it's not that they're not believable. Rey is cute as a button and is a great match for Finn. They'd have a fantastic relationship.

I still think that it'd be even better if they didn't get romantically involved, because a friendship can be as valuable, if not more, than a relationship.
Portraying a deep, realistic, non-sexual friendship between 2 attractive young people of different sex would be something i'd greatly appreciate because Hollywood treats it as non-existant.

The fact that it's such an alien(heh) concept to some is one reason the weird concept of "friendzone" exists.

seeing as Luke staring at the twin suns is a moment that makes me tear up just THINKING about it makes ANH my unbeatable favourite. The trench run is fantastic, though i actually prefer the (space)battle of Endor. My all time favourite.

The issue with Empire as a singular movie is that it's really the "2nd part of a trilogy", "first part of a double feature"
It's fantastic, has the best music (Asteroid field), but it's really hard for me to tell how much i'd like it without watchint RotJ shortly after.

Cant disagree with any of that. It's always nice that everyone has their own defining SW moment. For me, the build up to and execution of the trench run...with the musical score...the impending sense of doom one lost X-Wing and Y-Wing at a time...hope looking lost...then the Millennium Falcon coming literally out of nowhere, saving everything to set up one final shot.

The shit brings a tear to my eye. That sequence alone has kept ANH #1 for me. No other sequence creates and captures the stress, pressure and importance of the moment. Everything was on the line and everything felt like it was on the line and success hung by a thread. Big moments felt bigger. The ultimate success (deathstar destruction) felt like a huge achievement where I didn't sense the same gravity from the destruction of the Starkiller thing. I also think ANH had better pacing and a legendary score. Like, you can listen to this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLOA3IUbUzw

and envision every moment in the film by the part of the song. It's some magical shit, tbqh.

That said, TFA had far better comedy (for me), far stronger chemistry between its actors (they really wanted to be in this film and you could tell), better character development, better writing, equally good cinematography (when considering the difference in eras), more emotion, far better light saber fighting (lol @ vader vs obi-wan duel in ANH or any duel in the original trilogy for that matter). So depending on how I feel about the importance and weight of what, TFA may be my overall #1 with ANH having the single best moment.

Boba Fett tracked the Millennium Falcon allowing he Empire to capture Han, Leia and the rest. Which allowed Vader to lure Luke to Bespin. He also escaped from the good guys with Han. His role was pivotal to the film and he was a serious threat. Phasma was nothing here. No matter her role in the next film. She was a chump here. But I'm guessing they are going to reverse the Boba Fett arc.

Fett reported the location of an important target to the Empire, and collected a reward. He sets things in motion, but isn't doing that much. His accomplishment is barely more than the elephant-nosed snitch in Mos Eisley or the half dozen people that reported BB8 to the New Order.

I'm sort of conflicted, I flinched at every obvious call back to the OT. Too numerous to list. But this was so well done that I kinda love it.
I kept flashing back to my 7 year old self seeing Star Wars in the theater.
I can't believe I am seeing a modern Star Wars.
The prequels damaged me more than I thought.
I understand they had to do it this way, someone without attachments to the OT would probably love this with no conflict.

I like that Ren is vulnerable and kind of a chump in a way. Am I too believe that if a cloud didn't cover that light that he would have turned right then and there? They need to put him in a room with floodlights for 24 hours and fix him.

The chemistry between Rey and Finn is fantastic.

I like that this is leaning towards females. It works. I like the Female X-Wing Pilot as well.
I like Phasma and I don't know why I felt sorry for her at the end. I hope she is not dead. But she should be by all accounts, I suppose. I need a shot of her in the costume without the helmet at least.

Of course the Spaceship work is unbelievable, the Falcon, The X-Wings, The Tie Fighters, omg!!!

I also like the reverse, instead of falling into darkness, Ren is trying to avoid the light. Nice play on the Prequels there.

I knew he was doing it for some reason, but that makes it sound really cool.

I think they did it to try and justify how a trained sith (or whatever you call them now) gets beaten by someone who has literally never held a lightsaber -- But it's still flimsy justification. In that situation Rey and especially Fenn should have been completely helpless.

Poe gets a thumbs up from me. I like how BB8 is his robot, his companion, and they have a relationship ahead of time. He's a damn good pilot too. I love how he isn't a warrior, or a spy, or hunter... he's a pilot! Best thing to be in Star Wars.

Just came back..
Kinda half disspointed they spiritually reuse episode 4/5/6. Too much mirroring. Is it just me or Harrison Ford is channelling Indie instead of Han? And if Snoke is a Sith then how is possible for him to be a Sith lord due to the rule of two?

There are no Siths in TFA. There are new order/religion ("Knights of Ren", IIRC?) which uses the Dark Side.

No.

I'm almost 100% sure she had previous training that was suppressed.

This is part of the flashbacks she had and why she was "abandoned." She clearly has fighting chops before this.

Kylo isn't that badass either. Where do we see him actually "best" someone in a fight that isn't some peon?

Theoretically, if that was his hand, and the planet is just a big gas planet, wouldn't it just be floating somewhere in the center of the planet?

It's possible. It's either liquid or gas. There are mining platforms floating around Bespin. So glad TFA kept where the saber came from totally ambiguous.

Local news station posted a story from one of the local theaters last night, promised no spoilers in the article/segment.

Within moments a dude posted <giant spoiler image> in comments section.

Minutes later, dude was doxxed, hard, by somebody else. Address, phone number, employer, et al.

This morning, all comments were deleted by the station. Including mine, which was "Not saying I agree with doxxing people who spoil....but I understand".

People have ot be cognisant you will not be hand held through these films, some questions will be answered but nothing is going to be answered in HUGE EXPANDING DETAIL!!!

It serves no purpose for them to give us all the details and answers, they want to foster the speculation and new EU, not alienate it, giving us vague answers and ignoring certain questions allows them room to grow in the future and room for the brand to expand into other mediums.

Speaking of the saber, people say it's actually the ANH/ESB saber, right? How did anyone get that, exactly?

Yeah it is anakins episode 3 / lukes ANH/ESB lightsaber, Maz says something I wish she hadn't had said when they ask how she got this, "that's a story for another time". I wish she could have just said "I know a guy who works in cloud city maintenance".

It's not like the lightsaber fell to the planet, it was just stuck in the maintenance region of the city. It's possible some one would have found it at some point.

I like the idea that they're trying to make that saber a kind of star wars excalibur.

I thought it was a little clumsy how they revealed Kylo's background. "The droid is in the hands of Han Solo, your father!"

And then like 10 minutes later you have Ren addressing the Vader mask saying something like "Help me to find strength, grandfather!" That feels really gratuitous. Hey, all of you stupid people in the audience, in case you didn't realize what it meant when we revealed that Kylo is Han's son, now we have to explicitly tell you he's related to Vader too.

I really cant wait to see Kylo embrace the dark side in the next film. I hope that offing Han was his last battle with any pussy light side shit holding him back.

The beginning of this movie is so well done.
The opening shot, exactly what you wanted it to be, a parallel of the opening shot of Episode 4. I was in awe.

did I mention that Maz is the worst thing of the movie?

everything Maz said to Rey, Leia could have said it.

what is this shoe horned Antz CG character in a Star Wars movie?

Guaranteed there's a Wizard of Oz reveal a comin

I think he looks like that, but the size thing seems too ridiculous to be true.

Also, there's got to be something else to this "Supreme Leader" and "First Order" stuff. Like a whole lot more. As shown, they're basically a guerilla terrorist group with a big gun. There's no attempt to be the overarching rulers of the galaxy. The most legitimate sounding group is "The Republic," and they're wiped out now. It's like the galaxy is a fractured state, and "First Order" are bullies sniping at people with hit and run crap. Also, if the Republic is in control, how can they be supporting a group called the "Resistance?" What are they resisting? Has to be more to "First Order" than what was shown...

That's part of why I think ANH is better too.
Like, in TFA they blow up a whole star system and that had no impact. At least it didn't for me. Yes okay the cast is better and whatnot, but the actual plot and storytelling are way behind ANH.

I was genuinely shocked it happened so early but on the other side of the coin you are paying attention to whats happening in the story rather than thinking "Oh is he related to him, or him?"

Thats what im working with
