Yeah, it just looked awful. I know what they were going for, but they didn't quite achieve it.

Not sure I agree. I took it as a more defining moment and it was coming to a huge point in the story arc. What really sold it was Luke's eyes. I thought that was one of the coolest scenes where a guy can say so much without saying anything. So much story in his stare. Tears almost! Check it out next time you see it.

Yeah I'm also intrigued by this since it's obvious a fair bit was cut / reworked.

Additionally when I read the ROTS novel, I found it really add a lot of detail about the finer points of Anakin's fall and Obi Wan's emotions during the duel. It was honestly pretty good.

The Episode III novel was really really good. Definitely underrated.

Wait, wouldn't, like, sucking a whole star from a system completely fuck that system's gravity up instantly?
Yes, but it doesn't seem like the First Order would care. Their weapon is based on eating up suns and firing death lasers through Hyper-space to blow up multiple planets. They don't care about collateral damage.

So now that I'm posting in the right thread, can we all agree that the final shot is horrendous and possibly, most likely, the worst final shot of all 7 Star Wars films simply in terms of cinematography? A spinning helicopter shot? In 2015? In a Star Wars film? It was ridiculously bad to me.

I can't agree to be honest. I'm quite the opposite. I think it was one of the best shots of all time.

Han just died, his son is Kylo Ren, Leia a widow, Chewie a single and Rey just getting started.

Then Rey finds a Luke/Obi Wan/Yoda like savage in a distant ass off place with beautiful scenery and the helicopter goes spinning around them from a perfect angle for max dramatic impact?

I dont think ive seen a single bad word said about Poe, in any forum ive been on

Nailed it

i thought it was cool. Ends literally on a cliff hanger.

Yeah, but I'm talking about how they're all still well and fine on the Starkiller after the star is sucked dry. I would think (but I'm no space scientist) that it would fuck up all of the planets in that star's hold. Maybe it wouldn't be instantly.

I loved the part where Finn is running to help out Rey then sees she can handle herself, then ends up running away from her all scared and shit lol.

Yup.

The traditional damsel in distress role that Hollywood loves to give to women.

Not in this movie folks.

Ren didn't just lose the duel because he was wounded, he lost because he doubted himself and his willpower paled in comparison to Rey's. Basically, he choked under the pressure of fighting another force user who he didn't expect to rival him so closely after she only just discovered her insanely high potential. I had no trouble accepting the outcome of that fight.

Also this movie was 10/10 material for me, magic on the screen. <3

Also the dude just offed his own dad.

People have been going Apeshit for Phasma since the very first pics. And the Phasma merch has been some of the hardest to track down.

Couldn't they have given her JUST ONE cool thing to do?

Please be a good deleted scene for her... please!

I'm sure that due to fan response to the character they will up her part a tad in the next episode, but I still feel like she was wasted.

I still think he's dead though.

Would have been better served just having Snoke be Palpatine. Would be more impactful to find the old bastard found a way to cheat death and is out for revenge. He got his first blow in when he went right into the Skywalker family and turned one of their kids against them.

Phasma was one of those they designed the character to look cool forgetting fans would latch onto that. I mean Phasma was supposed to be a dude and was a late change to female after complaints of too many guys in the movie. So now they have to do more with the character because they made something the fans latched onto

It was good. But they hit us over the head with it a bit too much. It needed dialed down JUST a little. There was too much of an elbow and wink to audience "see what we're doing?" aspect to it. Him grabbing her hand over-and-over when they ran was about the point I was like "I get it already! She's strong!"

I liked Maz but I still haven't really gotten over Lupita being a CGI character. The way she dressed on the red carpet for the movie premieres is how I wanted her character to look.

Bad:

The movie's structure is way to similar to the first (4). I was like an ode to the original instead it's own movie.
Mark Hamill not saying shit

Good:

Everything else. There was a audable gasp in the theater when Han bit it, but I saw it coming a mile away. No, Han, don't go out there!
BB-6 is fucking HILARIOUS. When he gave Finn the finger I nearly fell out of the chair. There were a lot of funny moments during the movie. Like the part where Kylo Ren goes apeshit when Ray escapes and the storm troopers come to see what's going on and then "Hope, we ain't touching that shit."
Also the friendship between Finn and Ray is really fucking sweet.

For a second I thought i was watching Bad Boys 3. It was out of place, for sure.

I loved everything with the Starkiller, how it was a whole planet, how it destroyed 5-6 planets with one blast and how to recharge it needed to suck the power from a star. All of that shit was beyond cool.

The only wrench in the "Rey is a Kenobi" thing for me is that trying to explain this to the audience would get really exposition heavy because you'd need to explain;

--When Obi-Wan found a wife/love
--What happened to her before A New Hope
--What happened to Obi-Wan's child/children before A New Hope
--Why Obi-Wan didn't train his own offspring to be Jedi
--What happened to Rey's parents
--Why Rey was left alone

That honestly might be too much to lay on an audience.

They could make her a Kenobi but not his daughter. They seem to establish that force ability can flow through bloodlines. So maybe she is his grand niece or something

I agree with this, this was weakest part for me. He didn't actually need to be visually shown, a menacing voice would have been good enough Thank god he was a hologram though and not an actual giant, otherwise that would have been super weird.

We actually don't know what he really looks like in person... it could be a Wizard of Oz thing for all we know.

You mean the scene of her being flattened in a trash compactor? :)

He'll be back. Billy's sly smile when asked that question at the premiere said it all.

It that's true... oh yeah!

Anyone else think it would be great if Snoke was Jarjar Binks? You could have him accidentally go, "me sa" and then correct himself. Do it, Disney. End this movie universe right.

Also the dude just offed his own dad.

Yeah... Kilo is a young bad mofo! Dude just straight up offed his dad in what I think was. One of the most cinematically well done shots in the movie. Great! That dark long catwalk with an audience and blizzard with a base about to be blown up.... The shit!!!!!

It's the small touches that make the movie for me. Like I knew Han was gonna die the second he stepped out on that platform, but the surprise didn't matter to me so much as the execution of the scene, and they nailed it. What made the scene, besides how great the cinematography was, was when Han touched his face after being stabbed. Kylo Ren is the tragic character they wanted Anakin to be.

I think Kylo Ren is a great character because we're gonna see him grow just like the protagonists. He reminds me of Zuko from Avatar. What makes him scary as an antagonist isn't that he's "cool," but that he's basically a teenager with way too much power being manipulated by someone legitimately evil.
