[SPOILERS] Star Wars: The Force Awakens - It's True. All of it.

It's in the movie dude. Just because you missed it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

We see him shot, we see him bleed, we see him chest thump to distract from the pain.

Not denying the wound, but..how did he overtake them lol.

I liked the final shot in concept.. it reminded me of a helicopter shot you might see on a BBC documentary about Skellig Michael. powerful, majestic scenery.

But something about it was off. Were they composited together? Luke looked oddly pasted on top. It seems like they mucked with it a bit in post.

It was so good and will probably be considered iconic in 10 years. Everyone just had their own idea in their head of what Luke's return would look like, there's obviously going to be some that were disappointed. Like some guy said he wanted Luke to pull a red lightsaber and come towards Rey. Silly shit like that.

I felt like it would have been even better if they cut as Rey held out the saber.

Oh does he specifically state that he's just going to hand BB-8 off and be done with it? That's weird because he was specifically looking forward to seeing Leia when the Resistance came which is weird if he didn't want to meet them.

I can't recall him saying he was looking forward to seeing her. I might be wrong.

Then why is he *choosing* to get into saber duels lol. If he's wounded and wary of his ability to dominate Rey with Force powers, why is he pursuing her out into the forest. In fact, he does Force Dominate Rey with the push into the tree. Just fucking do that again. And how does him being a dingus accomplish anything for Rey? She beat him because he's a clown takes out the glory for her.

How did he even overtake them. He was deep in an exploding building while they were already outside it and somehow, despite this horrific wound everyone keeps citing, he outruns them in the woods?

No offense, and I know you are probably going to take this as a cop out answer which is fair enough, but I really think you are starting to overthink this especially when we are starting to question how he caught up to the good guys with he wound he had. It's a little inconsistent, but I couldn't really care less how he did it. It happens in most movies, lol.

They showed plenty of evidence of Kylo being unstable in general, being wounded, being emotionally all over the map from killing his dad, and likely not trained that well in saber fighting anyway which is clearly shown with how unstable his saber is in the first place. If you don't like any of the evidence they displayed in the movie, fair enough I guess, but for me, they showed enough weaknesses on Kylo's side that it isn't too unbelievable that he lost to Rey.

Are you forgetting how Child Anakin single handed infiltrates and destroys the enemy space station in TPM on accident when trained veteran fighter pilots were getting mopped up like so much spilled milk? A Child Anakin who had never flown a space ship, let alone a fighter? That was his Force ability instinctively guiding his actions, which is a common occurrence in the Universe. That's how Jedi Masters discovered that people had Force talents to begin with. They would show naturally through the actions of the Force Sensitive.

Do people really say on accident or you just didn't realize the typo? It's by accident..right? Shit like this always makes me doubt my English.

You're talking about a guy who commands private audiences with the most powerful dude in the entire galaxy. The movie frames Hux -- an OUTRAGEOUSLY competent dude -- as rival to Kylo. If Kylo was an idiot clown boy all along why the fuck does Snoke give him the time of day, much less a private squad of Stormtroopers? Dude demands Snoke entrust him with missions, and Snoke grants him them. So if Kyle is a big useless putz then Snoke is too. Or else Snoke just doesn't care if his missions are flubbed?

He has value to Snoke as an apprentice and one of the only known remaining Force users, especially one particularly seduced by the Dark Side. Kylo could still be a brat and a mediocre fighter. This is all too reminiscent of how the Emperor's rising star, Anakin, became a burned, mangled and mutilated mess. The Emperor kept Vader in his diminished state as his second hand because.. What choice did he have? There were no replacements UNTIL Luke came out of the shadows.

I can't recall him saying he was looking forward to seeing her. I might be wrong.

He doesn't outright state it but you can see it on his face when Leia's ship arrives. Finn rushes over to tell Han about Rey being kidnapped and Han brushes him off as he's staring at Leia's ship arriving.

Two story threads that did not follow.

The first is the premise of the Resistance, New Order, and Republic. From how they are portrayed, it feels like the Resistance is little more than the Rebel Alliance continued, as if they never really won or came into power in the OT. 30 years later and their "fleet" is still a small pack of X-Wings, they have one main base, and still seem like a ragtag group that had their back to the wall. It felt like the victory at the end of the Jedi didn't count for anything; I really didn't follow what was supposed to happen since. I'd have preferred a setup where the story was flipped, with the old Alliance members being in a position of strength but finding themselves under increasing assault by the New Order.

In the narrative itself, I didn't understand why they went to Kaz's base, what the goal was. I feel like missed a line of dialogue or something, but when they were there the story seemed to stall out. They basically needed some downtime for some character beats and to wait for the factions to catch up to them, but I didn't catch what they were intending to do.

I think things should have been reworked to have Leia give Rey the saber. Would have implied some pretty big changes on her getting captured, but I would see it this way:

1- Stop at the cantina to refill. Maz doesn't exist.
2- The Order and the Resistance arrive and the big fight happens.
3- Leia would have had the light saber and would have used it during the fight after losing her blaster trying to save Han (I think it would have been pretty cool, making Leia bad ass, which she was in the OT, without making her on par with Luke, no force power), Han and Leia gets ultimately saved by Rey, can't be TOO bad ass.
4- The good guys win, the order pulls out.
5- Leia meets Rey and Rey is curious about the saber, Luke, etc., and Leia feels there's something special about Rey. Rey touches the saber and has her vision.
6- During the night, Rey is called out, almost trance like, as if Luke is calling to her. She walks out of the location they are staying at, going into the forest. We are led to think she is going to meet Luke, maybe speak to him through the force. We see a robed figure. It's Ren.
7- Ren force-freezes her, captures her.
8- Leia gives the saber to Finn and Han, saying she feels Rey is meant to have it.

That to me would have worked much better than what we got.

Yeah I don't get what would be awakening in the grand scheme. The force was just brought to balance 30 years ago. What's the issue that we need a huge awakening. Unless they plan to write more lore about the force.

Well it would need to be brought back into balance, right? Luke's Jedi academy was wiped out by a student who turned, and at the start of the film the Dark side is in power and Kylo Ren is strutting around under the guidance of another (we assume) powerful Dark side figure, while the Light side is hiding out in the mountains. The two sides are, at that point, notably imbalanced.

If Rey doesn't emerge then the Dark side just runs roughshod on the galaxy.

It's an easy point to argue as the entire film suggests he is incomplete. Again, this doesn't mean he isn't powerful.

Exactly he's clearly unstable he was injured but you saw the tantrums lol. Not mention Snoke even reveals his training isn't complete. How old do we assume Ren is?

Well she's already landing by then. But he didn't say before that, "I'll go with you, I want to see Leia again!"

Do people really say on accident or you just didn't realize the typo? It's by accident..right? Shit like this always makes me doubt my English.

I'm not sure what relevance it has but "on accident" is commonly used, as is "by accident", or I could've phrased it to say "accidentally". Language is a constantly changing and evolving thing.

Did anyone else think Domnall Gleeson absolutely sucked? He's a fine actor but was totally miscast in that role. I visibly cringed every time he was on screen - he can't do intimidating general at all.

But do we know he is a giant? All we saw of Snoke was a hologram. What if Snoke is actually quite tiny. I mean, Palpatine wasn't really a big floating head in TESB.

again I thought this was incredibly clear. You're supposed to think he's massive but the hologram effect shows he's just in another location. He's the same size as the rest of them, or at least some sort of human size.

Did you not pay attention? He's arrogant and childish. He didn't think a Stormtrooper and a girl from the desert posed a risk. He briefly dominated Rey with his power then she overcame him with her own surprising Force powers. Pay attention. Geez.

How did he overtake them? Are you serious? This is a thing that bothers you? Fine. It's his home turf and he knows shortcuts and his way around the forest better than the newly arrived heroes. Pretty obvious.

I had a bad feeling about Hux ever since he was cast -- dude just does not look menacing at all, and I figured they'd have him ham it up to counterbalance. And he sure as hell hammed it way up. :lol

During my viewing of the film, this is who kept coming into mind in terms of where Kylo was at.

He's no Tarkin but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and wait until episodes 8 and 9 to see him get meatier material to work with.

Finally I can join this thread. Just got back from our morning movie adventure.

I would say in general I enjoyed the movie. A few minor issues with it, but nothing to make me feel it was a bad flick.

Sad to see Han out, but based off posts here it looks like Ford wanted out anyways (I assumed as much once I seen his character become kabob.)

I was kind of irked at how Rey was able to use force powers so suddenly, and exponentially as the movie progressed. How did she know she can control weak minds? How is she pulling objects to her? Seemed a bit much for an untrained mind. I'm sure the reasons and theories are in this thread already, I haven't searched much of it yet.

It looked very cool. Even when the screen was filled with tons of action, it didnt feel overdone or pointless like in the prequels. I'm glad there aren't a tone of random robot flying around for no reason. You cant deny this is a JJ Abrams movie. That trademark lens flare is a dead giveaway, haha.

Plot holes and all, it was very enjoyable.

I just saw the movie and I was legitimately shocked that they killed Han. Even when he was walking out there and I knew he was going to die I didn't want to believe. The most emotional moment in a movie full of them for me. I'm going to see it again in a few weeks.

Don't think he was intimidating, more full on drinking the kool-aid. He was okay, not great or bad. I had more of a problem with the New Order being full on Nazis rather than being based on a little bit like the OT with the Empire. They weren't unique enough, all I could think of was Nazis, too similar. Fascist salute, ugh. Too much.

Yeah I think the one thing that kinda bothered me is that Rey knew about Jedi mind tricks whatsoever. Like how? Only thing I can think of is that since jedis are kinda considers a myth by her, maybe some of their powers also are known, and she thought to try it? I dunno.

Yeah. I think this is sort of a Wizard of the Oz moment. If he is genuinely a giant I will be very, very surprised.

the freighter scene was a waste of talent and time (~10 minutes and the raid actors)

i cant help but think something else could have been in that place

It's an intentional contrast but it's always hard for me to take seriously those scenes when some high-ranking official starts bossing around and berating a dude so powerful he can literally fling you against a wall or choke you to death with his mind.

I know it's making some commentary about the influence of people in political power or whatnot, and their general arrogance (like the dude who mocked Vader about the Force), but it can come off as a bit silly when watching it unfold. :p

The very minute I saw Han staring at Ben on a walkway with no guard rails, I was already going 'bye felicia'
