Bernie's income and such points are aimed at the long term weakening of the forces that drive terrorism---the kind of mounting societal problems that we've been kicking the can down the road at home and abroad for the last several decades that've largely led to this mess getting messier still and at an increasing pace.

Same reason he's going in hard on climate change as that greatly damages the natural resources situation, same for proper universal healthcare, etc---attacking the issues from all sides.

While true, people aren't that reasonable. When people feel disempowered, they will act out.

How, exactly, has Europe gotten ISIS apologetics. Many of those same people feel their society has failed them. The race to the bottom does play a role. It may not be the role, but it is a role.

The moderator then moved to O'Malley.

A no fly zone isn't being proposed in Syria to stop ISIS, it would be to stop Assad from barrel bombing his own people in highly populated areas

They feel disempowered for a variety of reasons---Europe gets plenty wrong in terms of living up to their own potential. If they can take a step back an examine the lot of it and see cracks forming in what was once a much sounder base---those cracks will be preyed upon.

Hell, look at the messes in Greece/Spain/Portugal/general Euro madness moments, the rise of the hard right xenophobic nationalist groups, UK getting more influenced by out dumber moves of late here in the states---it goes on and on.
