Jedi are not supposed to marry and have kids, so most Force Sensitives are not part of some family line.

Unless they're bringing in Mara Jade, I have no interest in seeing Rey be a Skywalker. Would rather see her have her own unique backstory.

But but Anakin was conceived through the Force by Palpatine

Believe (or not?)

One reason I don't want the Plageuis midichlorian theory to be a thing is that it would obligate people into watching the prequels even more as well.

Again, I don't have that big of a fiery disdain for the prequels (barring Episode II), but convincing people to go through six movies or explaining some context of either trilogy is a hassle.

Luke is the father, and there is no mother.

I'm going to go see if I can listen to it now, but at this moment I don't even know what Rey's theme is.

Man, I feel like a crazy person for really digging the score and having the Scavenger theme and all it's permutations throughout and Rey's theme stuck in my head, humming them on the drive home and stuff.

I'm still thinking (hoping) she was a newly born child of some jedi that were slaughtered by the knights of ren, then luke, or someone else, takes her somewhere to be safe. Is this possible? I'm so fucking sick of skywalkers.

Anyone else not like the 'Force-off' between Rey and Kylo during the interrogation? You immediately get the jist of whats going on but it just lasted for so long. It's one of those scenes where it bothered me first time watching it, but as I watch it more my problems with it will hopefully evaporate as I learn the film better.

That was fine. The end, OTOH, was awkward AF.

Well, even the EU more or less did away with. Book spoilers:
In the Darth Plagueis book, they imply that the Force itself created Anakin in response to Plagueis and Palpatine shifting the balance to the dark side.
I wouldn't mind if the movies went with this, since it makes the Force the mystical power it ought to be, rather than lawl midichlorians.

Didn't he get his face all cut up at the end? That would be great excuse to use prosthetics to hide age differences.

We have official word straight from Lucasfilm that Kylo Ren is about 30 and Rey is about 20.

There is no twin theory.

The saga films are about the Skywalkers, Kathleen Kennedy says the saga films will always be about Skywalker family drama. It is what separates them from the spin-offs.

But Rey being the daughter of a couple of random space assholes would be extremely unsatisfying.

I think it works if Rey was a student at Luke's jedi academy and was whisked away by her parents/some adults who worked there before Kylo Ren and company could kill her. Maybe they left her on Jakku to then go fight Kylo Ren/the First Order and got killed. Luke would still have a connection to her and with her family gone she would look to the future for connection not the past, like Maz said in the film.

Is it confirmed that you can briefly hear Yoda and Obiwan in the movie? I didn't hear anything but I was pretty sucked into the film so I probably missed a lot of little touches.

He got in damn good shape though. Plus ran promotional circuits for about a year.

Also is definitely gonna have a big role in 8 anyway.

Yeah, Ewan recorded some lines and apparently Oz as well. They also spliced up some Guiness ones

The other problem is it makes it so people can't relate to her. It was a bad idea to begin with.

I realllllly don't want Rey to be a solo, and I would prefer it if she wasnt a skywalker, because then we don't have to have that scene where Luke says "I am your father".

I really don't see how she could be a Solo in a way that's not a horrible retcon or contrivance.

The card is:

X Solo
O Skywalker
O Kenobi
O TWIST

Rey beating Kylo just killed the hype for the rest of the trilogy. He got bested by somebody who has never picked up a lightsaber before.
Even if he completes his training he still got bested by Rey who has had no force training, no lightsaber training.

Will be interesting to see how they salvage the character

Sure, and Kylo Ren being a skywalker is hella dramatic. We don't need the savior to be a skywalker too. I love the movie but I just feel like these movies could be so much more if they move away from this skywalker idea and branch out. Now with the spin offs being all prequels about shit that we already know the outcome of... I don't know, I can't say I'm too excited. Maybe the comics are good.

Kylo should be in his late twenties 28/30

Rey should be in her early twenties 20/22

when Rey is dropped on Jakku is approximately 4 or 5 (this should be really near the massacre of the new apprentices)

So Kylo with the knights of Ren destroys the new academy when is 13/15?

i don't know...

I just got back from seeing it. (First time in a theater since Episode 2, by the way. The theater experience is something I could do without.)

Rey sure went from 0 to force competent in a hurry. I can kind of accept that she can handle a lightsaber a bit, since we saw her early in the movie using a staff (or whatever it was). The jedi mind trick and the force grab of the saber were like "what?" Needless to say, the backstory for that character will be interesting.

RIP Han Solo.

He was wounded and mentally unstable, and even though she's untrained, she's clearly more powerful with the Force than he is. She held off his mental probing and read his mind, and she overpowered his pull on the lightsaber. It wasn't until she started tapping into her anger at the end that she actually was pushing back against him. The first half of that fight is her on the run from him, acting purely on defense.
